that will be all tonight [Music] CL Mrs Jordan you did a wonderful job oh thank you Mr Carter but you do say that to all the choirs yes as a matter of fact I do they're such a wonderful group but seriously Mrs Jordan we are grateful to you all of us for you and your family you and the church and Ronnie singing in the carar by the way that boy of yours he's old boy but he sure can sing yes he can I only wish Ted could sing too what do you mean you wish Ted could sing too with your voice as it is and Ronnie singing as he does and your husband by the way what about John I've been hoping that we could get him in the choir sometime well I've about giving up on John he used to sing you know but now he works so hard and he has so little time at home well I really want to talk to you about Ted Mr Carter he wants to sing John says the boy just can't you know the other night I sat next to Ted at the basketball game if he can sing anything like he can yell wow what a tonal rain well he really wants to sing his girlfriend Shirley's in the Concord choir and you know what that means I surely do is there anything we can do to help him look Mrs Jordan if average people couldn't be helped we wouldn't have much of a choir there may be a few people who just can't sing but very few with the rest is desire encouragement and a willingness to practice oh Ted's got the desire all right and he works hard at anything he goes at do you think we could give him some encouragement just a minute look let's do more than that I have an application card here for the Concord choir have Ted fill it out and return it to me and then have him began to listen to good music listen to the radio listen to records and listen to music on television and then let's go further than that here's a pitch pipe give this to Ted and have him begin matching tones with it T appreciates this Mr Carter he thinks a lot of you well this is just my way of helping people to find themselves tell Ted to come and see me I'll give this to him and thanks again Mr Carter you know someday I hope to see my entire family all enlisted in the choir well I hope that day will come soon too let's just keep working well I must go along now and thank you for your time Mr G well you're welcome and we'll see you Sunday good night good [Music] night kid had to do his practic in here at home wouldn't bother you so much if you do your homework why didn't he go off in the woods somewhere hello dear hello John hi son hi uh what in the name of Ned is that that dear is your son Ted wants to join the Concord ch so he's practicing on a pitch pipe quir Ted wouldn't recognize the not of Music if it hit him in the head much less match it you can say that again well now it isn't that bad he just hasn't had any training Mr Carter says he'll be happy to coach him and if Ted practices see he can do it when he practices yeah but the realest thing you've got to hit all the notes at one time you can't go back and keep backing up like that Mr Carter says anybody can sing if he wants to and Ted wants to John what we really need is a piano yeah Dad a piano y'all have got music on the brain and I've got it in the neck what do you want I sit in church by myself I stay at home and eat sandwiches so you can go to choir practice and now you want me to sit up all night listening to a piano bang but you could sing too you used to be a good singer yeah but things have changed I like the old hymns we used to sing but John the pastor and Mr Carter work together to try to make the music and the sermon mean the most to the people you shouldn't be so critical John I do wish you'd give it some thought we need a piano music will do us all good yeah yeah hi Dad you hear me practicing yeah we heard you son [Music] you're doing a fine job and I'm proud of you during the days that followed Ted enlisted in a voice class at the church and practiced Faithfully our fondest Hope was that John would see the importance of choir work and we even dared to hope that he would join us we went further than that we prayed about it regularly [Music] for we knew that hearts that sing together have a bond of Fellowship which our home needed we weren't making much progress as far as John was concerned but we kept praying and Ted kept practicing often using the neighbors piano I've got to go I'll be late for school mean you'll be late for shle you mind your own business oh Mom I'll be late for supper I've got to stop by the church and see Mr Carter right after school surely be there too if you don't keep still I'm going to runny finish your breakfast Bye Mom Dad goodbye son you too pest goodbye bye ped Ronnie you really shouldn't tease ped so much about Shirley one of these days you're going to have a girl and then things will be different I already do have one Bye Mom Dad well what a boy I wish I had some of his energy oh they're both wonderful boys you're wonderful too dear I really am a lucky woman John yes nan have you forgotten about the piano we really need one why don't we go on and get it now Nan you know we Sly can't afford a piano and besides that we've been through all this once before no but we need it more now we'll find the money for it someway you see Ted has gotten to the place where he needs a piano to practice with we've already used the neighbors too much and John I need to practice too if I'm going to continue playing for our department assembly Nan you know we can't afford a piano but I'll tell you what I'll do I'll make you a proposition if Ted makes the choir we'll get a piano Ted you're coming along nicely why don't you come to choir rehearsal this week actually singing with the choir at this stage will help you and could I Mr Carter sure you can and we need you too do you think I'll ever learn to sing sure you will just keep at it actually you need to practice with the piano just follow simple melodies yeah if we only had one Ted was soon meeting regularly with the Concord choir but because of John's attitude I hesitated to mention it to him I was concerned more with the basic problem which our family was facing then one day Mr Carter came by to see us hello there is anybody home well hello Mr C how are you Mrs Jordan how are you this afternoon fine thank you John how are you looks like you're working always busy always busy well what brings you here well I think we've made it I'm asking Ted to sing in the combined CHS for the Easter Service oh I'm so glad I knew Ted could do it you must be hard up for singers Mr Carter no John you're wrong the boy can sing he just like most of us if given a chance and willing to practice he can do it that's Ted I'll say one thing he really practices John you ought to really be proud of this family of yours they're doing a wonderful job in the choirs why don't you join them and and make it a family affair no thanks three voices from one family in your choir will cause enough Discord Mr Carter oh by the way I I came by to bring this music for Ted uh it's the hardest part of the Easter music I've marked some of it and you recognize it right away uh Mrs Jordan would you mind to go over it with him and help him well of course Mr Carter and thank you very much we do appreciate what you're doing for Ted well you're certainly welcome I'm enjoying every minute of it I've got to be getting along now to make some more calls but I'll see you Sunday glad you came by Mr Carter thank you and goodbye stop again bye well neighbors here we come again man you aren't going to start all this over again now what else can we do I'll tell you what you can do you can cut out some of this church work every time I turn around it's church this and church that and now you've got Ted and ronning mixed up in it just as much as you are this can't go on like this almost every night it's something at the church something at the church is all bad Nan it's just that we don't have time for all of it I'm not against the church and I know the boys are a lot better off there than they would be other places I can think of but it's well you know how it is John if you really sincerely feel this way I'm going to give up my choir work Nan I'm not asking you to give up anything well perhaps I've been wrong my choir work means a great deal to me you know that my family and our happiness mean a great deal more I'm committed to help with the Easter music but when that's finished I'll drop out I promise you [Music] [Music] angels hallelu [Music] [Music] hallu the last rehearsal for for our Easter program was a happy and also sad occasion for me my two sons were there Ronnie singing as easily and as naturally as always he was a born singer and seemed to anticipate the director's suggestions and Ted working but doing very well the hours of practice the coaching of Mr Carter and Ted's deep desire these were bearing [Music] fruit but I could not help but think of John at home alone I knew now that I'd been wrong in leaving him so much but I had so hoped he'd join with me and sing like he used to I knew that more than just our singing in the choir was involved in John's attitude I loved him so much that it was hard for me to recognize his drift into indifference his drift away from Christ and from the church when I did realize it I knew that we were involved in a struggle that threatened the happiness of our home as well as John's potential service to the Lord through his church and I was prepared to make any sacrifice to bring him back [Music] back Ted wouldn't recognize the not of Music if it hit him in the [Music] head Mr Carter says anybody can sing if he wants to and Ted wants to [Music] [Music] and heart your heart [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Nan you aren't going to start all this over again now what else can we do I'll tell you what you can do you can cut out some of this church work every time I turn around it's church this and church that and now you've got Ted and Ron and mixed up in it just as much as you are this can't go on like this almost every night it's something at the church something at the [Music] church John if you really sincerely feel this way I'm going to give up my choir work [Music] there I think that's got everything toast ready yes Mom by the way I haven't heard anything Rec recently about a piano don't we still need one a piano John Piano well I did promise you know and payday is coming up tomorrow dad that's wonderful piano oh I'm so glad John we giving up the choir won't be so bad with a piano in the house well who said you were going to give up the choir oh but dear I promise and after all I thought that that well just hold your thoughts for just a moment I've got something else I want to show you here why John that that's a choir application card that's right I'm going to fill that out and go by and give it to Lon Carter today I should have done it a long time ago oh Dad that's squ well I may be a little rusty but I think with a few rehearsals and a little practice I'll join my family and sing in the choir oh boy great John I'm so happy I feel like I'm going to cry well suppose instead we have our thanks Mother suppose you lead us [Music] Oh Praise Him [Applause] [Music] hallelu pra you all praise him [Applause] hallelu [Applause] hallelu [Music] hallelu all and worship him in Oh Praise Him Hallelujah PR praise the father
