Description: Describes growth and development through life span changes in plants and animals emphasizing single cell change and enzymatic control of growth. Explains by demonstration how amoeba size can be measured and then graphs its growth to an adult (to its growth plateau). Points out that control of amobeoid growth is necessary stressing maximum size of cell that is possible. Illustrates by models different patterns of growth as in the diatoms. Studies enzymes, their action in controlling growth, their general characteristics, and today's system of naming them. States that the kind of protein is determined by the arrangement and kinds of amino acids. Summarizes that growth and regulation of a cell go back to enzymatic control in the formulation of new materials in the cytoplasm of the cell.
