Comedy and science fiction are combined in this film about a team of professional, albeit zany ghostbusters. Psychologist Dr. Peter Venkman, metallurgist-physicist Dr. Raymond Stantz and electronics wiz Dr. Egon Spenler set up shop in old firehouse to help New Yorkers rid themselves of unwanted spirits. Removing the spectral resident of an hotel ballroom, the threesome become successful but unwittingly unleash a ghostly epidemic on the metropolis. One of the phantoms, a Babylonian spirit called Zool, possesses a shy cellist whom Dr. Venkman has been dying to date. In the end, the ghostbusters, borrowing methods from Japanese-style sci-fi movies, destroy a huge invader that threatens to overtake the city. (Circulates).
Parapsychologists Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, and Egon Spengler establish the Ghostbusters, a paranormal investigation and elimination service. The Ghostbusters are retained by cellist Dana Barrett, whose apartment is haunted by a demonic spirit, Zuul, a demigod worshipped as a servant to Gozer the Gozerian, a shape-shifting god of destruction and chaos. Ghostbusters capture their first ghost, Slimer, in a specially built containment unit in the firehouse basement.
