George Washington's Little History Of The United States (1980)

Le [Music] hello I'm George Washington I was the first president of the United States of America ah yes the 4th of July I remember it well ah the 4th of July is the birthday of the United States of America but that's getting ahead of our story [Music] you know people have lived in this land for thousands of years maybe 20 or 30,000 years [Music] well sir about a thousand years ago new people sailed from other lands to find what was for them a new world 500 years passed and then Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain looking for a shortcut to China Columbus thought he had landed in India so he called the people he met [Music] Indians uh-oh the people who came to stay and make a new home in America were from Europe and [Music] Africa now that was in the early 1600s in 150 years 3 Mill million new people had come to America and there were 13 colonies the king of England thought belonged to him the king liked to think of the people in the colonies as his children but the colonists didn't like being treated like children there was talk all over the American colonies about not being owned by England anymore this made the king of England Furious he sent part of his big Army and Navy to America to make the colonists behave this made some of the colonist man now it was [Music] 1776 a young man from the colony of Virginia named Thomas Jefferson was chosen to write a declaration of independence Thomas Jefferson chose his words carefully he was writing down words that declared independence from England but he was also setting down some ideas about Freedom that people had been dreaming of for a long time all people are created equal all people are born with certain rights that cannot be taken away government's job is to protect these rights that a government gets all its power from the people if the government doesn't protect their rights the people have the right to change the government so on July 4th 1776 Congress passed the Declaration of Independence and the United States of America was born well since then our country has certainly grown a lot on every 4th of July it's our birthday and if it's your birthday you have to have a birthday cake and if it's your birthday you have to have a [Music] party and we're going to invite to our party some who are famous and some who aren't famous at [Music] all all right let's see who's coming to our party a [Music] a [Music] oh [Music] w [Music]
