The film focuses on Gandhi's policy of non-violent resistance; this success, resulting in British acceptance of eventual Indian independence in the 1930's; the conflict between Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India; and the end of British rule in 1947 and the subsequent birth of modern India and Pakistan
