you've learned how to get ready to drive start the engine and move your car into traffic now let's learn about making turns to make a right turn signal your intention approach in the proper lane slow and start turning when your front wheels are even with a curb line of the street you're entering look through the turn to where you want to go continuously evaluate your position and make steering adjustments to complete your turn in the appropriate lane let's look at another right turn from a different angle and watch the tracking difference of the front and rear wheels notice the track made by the right front and the right rear wheel the rear wheel moved much closer to the curb than the front wheel did the sharper the turn the greater that tracking difference will be now watch this driver and see if you can identify his error he started his turn okay but did not evaluate his position accurately and turn sharply enough to avoid conflict with other traffic how about this one this driver did not allow for the tracking difference and started turning too soon although going left doesn't usually require a char pattern the same principles apply signal approach in the proper lane slow remembering the tracking difference of front and rear wheels start your turn to move just inside the imaginary center of the intersection continually evaluate your position and adjust the amount of turn to enter the appropriate lane [Music] are you ready to drive now is your seat adjusted and seatbelt fastened start your engine and get ready to move down the street all clear go now proceeded at 20 miles an hour did you check your turn signal off we're going to make some right and left turns at the end of this street we'll turn right check mirrors signal slow slow more and check right check left now start your turn steer hand over hand and accelerate gently are you continually evaluating your position proceed at twenty and check your turn signal off our next turn will be left on left terms the driver will need to visualize an imaginary center point of the intersection at the next intersection will be turning left check mirrors signal slow and easily left check right now start your turn and accelerate gently keep evaluating your position and adjust the amount of turn as needed check mirrors check turn signal off at the next intersection we're going to turn right again this intersection is controlled by a traffic light be prepared to stop if necessary however the turning procedure is still the same check mirrors signal slow are you aware that we're moving slightly over to the right this protects our right side by controlling the space we plan to use and reinforces our intent to turn right check right check left from this position sight is limited move slowly and check again notice that we're moving into the first open travel lane on the right this practice applies on all right turns is your turn signal canceled our next turn will be left this time we will need to protect our left side by moving to the lane nearest the center before turning the changing lanes is similar to leaving the curb check mirrors all clear signal left glance left and ease over in a drifting but positive manner now we're controlling the space we plan to use we'll turn left at the next intersection procedure is still the same check mirrors signal check left check right again we're moving into the first open travel lane in our direction so this practice applies in both right and left turns we're going to be turning right again but remember we must make our turn from the open lane farthest to the right beyond the traffic cones will move to the right lane [Applause] check mirrors signal glance right all clear where that car is coming out turn right signal slow slow more and check right check left park at the speed limit sign ahead on the right secure your car now let's see how well you can do on your own start your engine and prepare to drive on remember right turns from the right to the right left turns from the left to the left when it's clear drive on check rear at the first intersection turn left check left check right are you evaluating your position and adjusting the amount of steer at the next intersection turn right check right check left check left again are you looking down the street you are entering prepare to make a left turn a short distance ahead [Applause] did you remember that left turns are made from the lane father's left at the intersection ahead make the left turn the light is green for us check but don't delay if it's clear to go are you aiming for the first open travel lane follow that car ahead of you and let's try a special turn Bay for a left turn you see how these turn Bay's protect you from the rear as well as alongside are you remembering the tracking difference where that car is crossing will turn right take the next street to the left [Applause] where that car is coming out turn right continue straight through [Music] at the next intersection turn right again pull into the driveway that white car is backing out of did you realize that turning into this driveway was very much like turning at an intersection secure your car if you will remember your vehicle's tracking difference continually evaluate your position and make the necessary steering adjustments to stay on course you should be able to position your car properly in any turning maneuver [Music] [Applause] [Music]
