pleasing there they go a tremendous load of golden sevens down down into the hold of the good ship Val davia ready straining of the ropes to leave on its voyage across the stormy Bay of Biscay to England and here we are what a swift smooth journey safely docked in the thriving Port of Liverpool here come the severs out of the hold of the ship and onto the waiting Lords there again is the could imagine we had not left Seville what is happening here the oranges are just emerging from a most modern washing machine are not subjected then to immediate inspection any which failed to come up to the morehouse standard of absolute perfection are discarded as you may notice but few thanks to the care taken in picking and hacking are in anything but perfect condition here we see Trey upon tray of several oranges laid out for further inspection with more houses production manager and his assistant inspecting and checking upon the first arrivals and now we come to a really amazing machine the oranges full of health giving vitamins juice and that characteristic Tang so appetizing a breakfast time when the palate is a little jaded come fully into the picture note the inspection still going on right up to the moment when the oranges go on their short journey to these rarely efficient machines they plunge the orange down onto concealed knives which take off the peel like lightning divided into four and send it speeding to the stainless steel receptacles let us have a look a good look at this machine and watch the juice and heart of the orange being ejected into another stainless steel pair stainless steel is everywhere in more houses model factory for its safeguards the fruit and its flavor perfect here are the fascinating shredding machines PU is automatically fed through the rollers and cut into various thicknesses for the different types of marmalade even the pit is removed from the shreds used in more houses jelly marmalades the peel is tremendously important in this peel lies the secret of the several orange when you bite the peel the tongue and palate respond immediately as if they'd had a minor electric shock watch the thick cut peel coming through the cutters although thick its texture is velvety after cooking and has the bouquet of a good look yer thick cut chunky peel for more houses celebrated George and marmalade next in line the ever popular medium cut peel for more houses breakfast marmalade a universal favorite not too chunky but beautifully balanced then fine peel for the jelly marmalades delicately flavored with shreds from which the fifth has first been removed and what about the center of the orange nature's safe deposit for her vitamins and the lifeblood of the fruit the juice this machine we're looking at strains and filters the orange withdrawing the pips in any fruit fiber this operative is opening air valves to blow the whole center of the orange under high pressure through 20 nylon sheets it is literally forced through the nylon as the Seville's now boiled and sterilized passed through this press even the tiniest bits of fruit fiber are held back and only the pure clear juice comes through we have seen the several oranges the peel and the juice now comes the sugar sugar cane is grown in the hot countries of Cuba and the British West Indies the sugar cane is a gigantic grass growing from 10 to 20 feet high the stems being up to two inches thick the stem contains the sugar and this stem is cut off when ripe sugar beet is grown in North America and over here in England meat are usually about three inches in diameter and from seven to eight inches in length there's known seen cane sugar and beach this gigantic tanker holds 15 tons of English refined white sugar after the tanker has pulled up one of more houses staff pulls out the conveyor the sugar is discharged to automatically through a nylon sleeve in a beautiful white cascade quality control comes in again here that is a young man from the laboratories taking a sample of this load for quality testing the sugar is screw elevated to the floor above and into a giant hopper which holds 50 times more houses output is so tremendous that this hopper is refilled several times a day let us go indoors and have a look at this hopper 50 tons of sugar right alone we wander over to the automatic weighing machine and see the sugar being automatically discharged sending down 200 weights every few minutes to the rapid boiling pans below or into the submerged tank we see in the foreground where crystal sugar is being made into sugar syrup for more houses jelly marmalade tremendous care is taken in the handling of the fruit what about the containers the glass jars are scolded and sterilized boiling water and steam playing on the jars from every conceivable angle look at the jars travelling a caterpillar speed along the full length of this very large washing machine yeah the supervisor takes out a jar for inspection sterile extremely hot and ready now for the marmalade now we get very near to the exciting stage the making of the marmalade we have the oranges the fruit juice the sugar and one other ingredient a very vital ingredient three quarters of a century of acquired knowledge skill and experience know how as our American friends might say these are the big weighing machines and the pan charging units here are weighed off all the ingredients the shreds the pure juice from the filter presses the virgin white sugar here they are mixed here are the secrets of the morehouse recipes which have made their marmalades famous off they go direct to the stainless-steel steam jacketed rapid boiling pans you'll notice they're not huge pans relatively small quantities are boiled at one time rapid boiling is very essential to retain all the flavor and all the color of the several heart these are the super rapid boiling pans essential for more houses jelly marmalade and more houses famous shred this marmalade with the jelly marmalades the boiling time must be reduced to three minutes they are so very delicate the natural flavor so exquisite and the set must be perfect this is incredible more houses marmalade being automatically filled at the rate of a tea jars a minute how on earth is it done it is sheer magic orange magic actually the marmalade is being automatically pumped from the stainless steel cooling bats into these sterilized jars how do more houses get there peel so well distributed in the marmalade you may be asking the answer is in even cool the marmalade is stirred all the times the temperature gradually falls inspection continues all along the line you and now the jars are being capped the caps falling automatically from a column of caps having helped itself to a cap each jar goes under a sealing machine for vacuum sealing a lightning flash of steam instantly sterilizing the air space between the top of the marmalade and the lid after capping the jars enter another washing machine where they're washed under pressure to remove any trace of stickiness upstairs in the laboratory an assistant tests a jar of marmalade for strength of gel or set glancing around we see the familiar sight which thrilled us all as schoolboys and schoolgirls when we were permitted to enter the lab test tubes Bunsen burners hydrometers condensers refractometers another young scientist is testing the strength of the vacuum a final check on this war house seal of perfection and now the all-important final check what does the marmalade taste like is the flavor all it should be how tender is the peel what about the clarity of the jelly see the reflective look in their eyes you the verdict perfect and now the tempo quickens as we see the jars flashing along the runways past the automatic labeling machine which flicks a label onto the jars of the fantastic speed of 140 a minute too quick for the eye to see this machine has been slowed down to let us watch the action and now gentlemen on parade what an impressive array spit can spam battalions of them travelling along to the packing stations and here the sergeant major of the mall were
