Discusses psychiatric rehabilitation by presenting a non-interpretative study of Lucy, an ex-mental patient in her fifties, who has been in and out of mental hospitals since her teens. Shows Lucy working as a secretary at the hospital where she was formerly a patient as she struggles to find a place for herself in the community. Observes that she functions well except in times of stress when she becomes dependent on those around her.
