Discusses through live photography and animation the three areas where breakage can occur along the shaft of the femur (upper, middle, and lower), the muscles which cause abduction of the bone when breakage occurs, and the setting of fractures in these three areas. By means of diagrams shows the major disabilities that could result from improper setting. The use of the Thomas splint and its particular importance in breaks of the femur is explained. Uses an actual operation to show use of internal fixation and also demonstrates pinning and wiring of breaks. Illustrates the six basic principles of fracture reduction portrayed in the film.
