Description: This footage captures what is now the Fort Davis National Historic Site during the 1930s. Amongst the structures recognized are the commanding officer’s barracks and two multi-story officer’s quarters at the edge of a cliff. Fort Davis was a frontier military post active from 1854 until 1891 with the primary purpose of protecting emigrants and travelers along the San Antonio-El Paso road. Today it is a national historic site, attracting visitors year round with artifacts, ruins, and historical reenactments.
