Although the video shows one touchdown scored by each team during the first half, the final score score was 26-7 with the Gamecocks earning their fifth victory of the season against five losses. QB Stan Spears(#10) scored Carolina's first touchdown on a one-yard sneak late in the second period. Future NFL players Alex Hawkins(#41), Tommy Addison(#62) and Don Rogers(#73) paced the Gamecocks that day. Other Gamecock greats Julius Derrick(#85), Nelson Weston(#66), Weems Baskin(#82), Ed Pitts(#71), John Saunders(#33) and Buddy Mayfield(#80) played important roles in the Carolina victory that day. Hawkins was the most decorated player of that era with Pitts earning All-ACC and All-American honors in 1959.
