Trailing 24-17, Mackie converted from 28, 50 and 23 to give the Gamecocks a thrilling 26-24 win in Blacksburg. Kevin Hendrix, Ron Rabune and Robert Robinson led the Gamecock defense. Mike Dingle's 53-yard pass reception from Todd Ellis and Robert Brooks' 98-yard kickoff return supplied the remaining points along with a fourth Mackie field goal to notch the Gamecocks' sixth straight victory of the season.
