(UofSC offense only) GAME RECAP: South Carolina exploded for three third quarter rushing touchdowns to claim a 31-23 victory over the neighboring Tar Heels. QB Ron Bass carried the ball 39 times for 211 yards as the Gamecocks amassed 468 yards rushing behind a strong blocking line. RBs Jay Lynn Hodgin and Randy Chastain also contributed to the running attack that day. The Tar Heels closed to within eight in the fourth period on a Chris Kupec two-point pass to TE Charles Waddell, future South Carolina Assistant Athletics Director. After beginning the season with five consecutive losses, the Gamecocks won their second game in a row against both a SEC and an ACC opponent.
