He completed 21 of 33 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown that came after a Dale Campbell interception late in the first half. RBs Harold Green and Mike Dingle rushed for 139 yards and 63 yards, respectively. WR George Rush caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Ellis followed by a two-point conversion pass to Robert Brooks to give the Gamecocks a 21-7 lead at halftime.
