Description: Reviews the characteristics of barbituates or "downers" and their proper use pointing out that addiction takes only a few weeks and that withdrawal symptoms are very severe. Presents vignettes which portray death due to an overdose, combining downers and alcohol, and driving while under the influence of drugs. Emphasizes that while many users are trying to overcome depression caused by school, home, or environmental issues, these problems cannot be solved by using drugs.
