Description: After seven years of drought, Austinites cheered when it began raining in the spring of 1957. By April 24, however, the rain turned into a catastrophic flood. Later declared “the Day of the Big Cloud” by the Austin American-Statesman, the storm dropped up to ten inches of rain within a few minutes. While the pace slowed, it never stopped. It continued to rain for a total of 32 days, causing flooding all across Central Texas. This raw footage from an Austin-based news affiliate captures the flooding along the Llano River.
