Description: Depicts the process of the motion picture from its inception in the 1890s as an "if it moves, film it" medium, to its use as a newsreel and relatively sophisticated entertainment from Thomas Edison, to the French director Melies, to D.W. Griffith. Explains the way in which early movies, stored on paper in the Library of Congress, have been restored to film. Includes some rare material such as President McKinley's last speech, the first night scene ever filmed, and a comparison of Edison's Great Train Robbery with Lubin's plagiarized version.
