Farmyard Babies (1952)

[Music] part of the fun we have in our class comes from making models like this one the children made of a farm we also have fun telling stories one story we like is about a farm that looks like our model the largest building on the farm is a great Red Barn but there are other smaller buildings like the chicken house inside the chickens are just waking up hear the rooster call slowly the chickens begin to stir it's a fine spring morning outside how do we know it's spring well a warm gentle breeze blows across the farm in the orchard the pear trees are in full bloom in the nearby Woods Flowers greet the morning sun the stream is full from the spring rains Daisy enjoys a drink before her morning rounds Daisy has a job to do on the farm even though Daisy is very busy this morning and must check all around the farm first she sees her own little puppy they're both all right just finishing a bowl of milk for breakfast there are more Barnyard babies to see the little puppy would like to come along no says Daisy you're too little the puppy wonders when he will be big enough in the barn Daisy sees fluffy the mother cat and fluffy has some f little kitten Daisy sees that the farmer has left a bowl of milk for fluffy and her kittens who look a lot like their mother but there are more babies on the farm and Daisy still has a lot to do the animal mothers and the farmer take care of the Barnyard babies when they are small when the kittens get bigger they will help the farmer by catching mice that try to steal grain stored in the barn what does Daisy see now it's a mother hen and her little chicks she certainly has a lot of them the hen is showing the chicks where to find the feed that the farmer leaves in the chicken yard by pecking and scratching she teaches the babies how to look for food if the chicks are thirsty they can drink from the water bottle left there by the farmer when the chicks are so small the mother protects them before long they will be as big is the mother hen and lay eggs that the farmer can sell on the market does Daisy see another chick no it doesn't look like a chick we saw does it what is that we hear it's the father a tom turkey so these are baby turky by Fall they will grow big and fat and at Thanksgiving time the farmer will take them to Market until then the mother turkey will take care of them Daisy knows that there are lots of fences on the farm that separate the animals but bisy knows her way around Daisy wants to check on the funny fat pigs in the pen she likes to look and see the little pigs crowding around the mother s for her milk the sa had 10 little pigs in her litter and they all push and shove there are two mother SS these little pigs are just like the others always hungry for the mother's milk Daisy hears something it's that fussy Old Mother Goose calling her goling and here they come they have web feet just like their mother she certainly is noisy Daisy doesn't mind she knows the Mother Goose is guarding the little ones carefully see how close they say to the mother this is a pretty big fence so Daisy peeks through and sees her friend the little lamb is he all alone no he isn't lost the rest of the sheep are not very far away the little lamb will find them someday the baby lamb will grow up and have a big woolly coat that the farmer can cut off himself sell when he is little he thinks mostly of getting his mother's [Applause] milk but of course he thinks about playing too so he tussles in the field with another little lamb Daisy is thirsty after all the running she goes back to the stream for a drink and looks over toward the pond the father and mother ducks are taking the baby ducklings for a [Applause] swim they know how to swim without being taught [Applause] see they have web feet just like the mother [Applause] does when they come asore they learn to shake away the water off their down this one little fella isn't sure he likes the water but really all ducks like to swim and he decides to go with the others Daisy looks Across The Meadows and sees Dianne the mother horse and her long-legged coat standing in the wide pasture the Colt stays very close to his mother and we can see how much they look alike T ho the other mayor has a Colt too they all like to run through the green fields and build up their strength it's seems to Daisy that all the farmyard babies like to run and play just like children everywhere what could be more fun for these [Applause] [Music] Cales the calves are learning to eat the green grass and flowers which helps them grow roming through the fields will make them strong too then they will give good milk for children but Springtime is the time for playing and Daisy knows that everything is all right on the farm so she came back to the barn was time to feed her own little puppies like the other Farm babies they are cared for by their mother when they are young soon the pups will grow to look like Daisy and learn to do the things she does right now Daisy thinks her own puppies are the cutest babies on all the farm that's one of our favorite stories wouldn't you like to tell a story about farmyard babies how they grow and what they will do for the farmer [Music]
