Description: President Lyndon Baines Johnson was a prominent political figure for many years before he assumed the highest office in the United States, and as such he factored importantly into news and political discussions for many years. In this 1959 episode of the Washington, D.C.-based news program Face the Nation, then Senate Majority Leader Johnson speaks with a panel of journalists about compelling political issues of the day, a paramount question amongst the journalists being whether or not Johnson will seek the Democratic party’s presidential nomination. Though this film is from before Johnson’s presidency, the forcefulness, directness, and humor that he evidences here are the same qualities that would be on show throughout his presidency.
