As Professor Merrell Gage of the University of Southern California's Department of Fine Arts molds a bust of Lincoln from an egg-shaped mass of clay twice-size, he tells anecdotes about the martyred President. As he talks of Lincoln's life, from youth to his fateful destiny, the clay is slowly transformed into a life-like impression, aging with the events recited by the narrator.
