Description: Covers the role of estuaries as "nurseries" for economically important species such as shrimp, crabs, oysters, clams, menhaden, and other finfish: as the habitat of waterfowl and furbearing animals; and as a recreational and esthetic resource. Also depicted are major threats to estuarine resources--pesticides, municipal pollution, industrial waste, dredging and filling, and damming and diversion of streams that flow into the coastal area.
