lies buried Robert the Bruce one of Scotland's greatest [Music] heroes this enchanting Vista is in the heart of Sir Walter Scott country here before us is the land of his great poems and novels marmian Lady of the Lake Rob Roy ivanho kennworth and many others that recreate the spirit of great events and paint word pictures of historic Scottish [Music] life abbottford the mansion Scott built from the proceeds of his writings but he died a poor man burdened by debts he lies buried here on amid the ruins of drberg Abbey we have come to the mecca of every golfer in the world there are fine and famous courses but none to surpass St Andrews in feire and its Royal and ancient Golf Club founded in 1774 golf as we know it today was born in Scotland and the Scots were playing long before the Mayflower set sail from England to America in 1620 St Andrews is the international Shrine of golf and its basic rules are accepted throughout the world there are hundreds of courses available from one end of Scotland to the other and of course the British Open tournament began here in 1860 27 miles from St Andrews is the City of Edinburgh capital of Scotland and a queenly city indeed this was once the seat of Scottish royalty and the main stage on which was played the violent and often bloody drama of Scotland's early history since those turbulent days Edinburgh has settled down today she is one of the great cities of Britain the Athens of the north even to its own Acropolis Castle Rock and its own Parthenon Edinburg Castle a huge and imposing Fortress Palace that dominates the city with all the changes that have come about in Scotland one facet of the national character remains constant Scottish pride of Royal Heritage and love of traditional pageantry here is one of the most interesting sites of Edinburgh the roots of which go deep into Brit history and tradition and so today on the wide expanse of parade ground before Edinburgh Castle we are witness to an impeccably executed Changing of the Guard and to the march of military men and arms Royal Scottish Style [Music] South again to England and to the Shakespeare Memorial Theater at Stratford on Avon in Oxfordshire Monument to the Transcendent Genius of the immortal Bard it is a profound and moving experience to visit Stratford birthplace of William Shakespeare to see the house he lived in and to visit the thatched cottage of Anne Hathaway the girl he [Music] loved it is even more impressive to realize that people come to Stratford to honor not a king or a famous Soldier but a poet and playwright William Shakespeare writer England is a small country and can easily be explored by train bus or motorc car then there is the journey by boat on the river temps it may take a little longer but what a different it makes in the pleasures of travel as you respond to the Sight and Sounds of rural England and on a pleasant summer day the Tims is a holiday Highway for rivercraft Laden with those who would become a part of a fine Voyage there are fishermen who line the banks barely looking up or pay us no mind at all as we Sail by on this leisurely Voyage there is time to make some background notes about the river itself its geography and its place in English History first on a point of navigation the temps rises in the katwal hills in the west flows to the Lower Valley then winds its way those visitors who have come to pay their respects to the Queen of England on the parade grounds at whiteall the Troopers parade before their Queen the grenadiers the Coldstream the Scots the Irish
