Dragonflies: Flying Hunters of the Waterside

The dragonfly is a member of an insect order that existed some twenty million years before the dinosaur inhabited the earth. This film takes a look at this descendant of prehistoric times, examining its life cycle in its natural habitat, the waterside. Close-up and time-lapse photography show how it changes as it goes through various stages of development, from the initial mating of the parents to its emergence from the nymph stage as a fully grown adult. In the process it discusses the insect's physical characteristics and its behaviour pattern.
