Discovering The Music Of India

Presents the music of India which consists of two main types, the Carnatic type of the south and the Hindustani type of the north. Points out that Indian music is largely improvised, with musicians playing within the framework of a given raga, or scale and tala, or rhythmic pattern. Demonstrates several ragas and percussion patterns.
