Description: Czechoslovakia is a country of two parts: Slovakia, a rugged mountainous land, and the Czech lands, a rich farming region with many industrial cities. With historical perspective we see the two regions as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then as a democracy after World War I, and finally as a Communist state.
