Description: Discusses the period from 1944 to 1945. Explains that on the eve of victory, Canada faced a man shortage which precipitated the conscription issue and threatened national unity and the Mackenzie King government. Describes the fighting in Europe as Canadian divisions fought their way to the top of the Italian boot, and engaged in the battle of the Reichwald and Hochwald Forests and finally crossed the Siegfried line.
