An old-fashioned rocking chair, lovingly crafted from the trunk of a tall tree, links past values with modern progress in this charming tale. Unique and colorful animation portrays the chair’s experiences throughout the life of a Quebec farm family. Discarded once the family has grown, the chair is rescued and put to use by a guard in a museum of modern art. Here it provides a fascinating juxtaposition of old and new, coming to life after hours in a dazzling combination of French Canadian folk music and nostalgic visuals. This award-winning film is a brilliant example of the animator’s art, a classic children’s film, an affectionate visit to a happy past, and a gentle commentary on the rapid pace of modern life.
