Description: Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news on October 31, 1966. The broadcast script for this date has not survived. Reel 1: Segment 1 (silent): Courtroom, people filing in, African-American attorney seated at table Segment 2 (silent): California Highway Patrol on the scene of an accident on what appears to be Highway 17. Traffic is backed up as the wreckage of totaled cars is cleared. Segment 3 (sound): Interview with Santa Clara County Tax Assessor Dwight Mathiesen about the report by California Attorney General Thomas Lynch alleging illegal activity in the assessor's office. Mathiesen says that the report is not clearly defined as to explanations behind the charges, and he is denying all of the accusations, saying his office can find no basis in fact in their records. Segment 4 (silent): Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors meeting Segment 5 (silent): Well-dressed woman getting off elevator in courthouse, walking into the Superior Court courtroom number 5, George H. Barnett presiding. A military officer in uniform stands outside the courtroom conferring with another man. Reel 2: Segment 1 (silent): Elementary school children participating in a Halloween costume parade at school. Segment 2 (silent): Aftermath of a fire at a school near the corner of El Carmelo Avenue and Ramona Street in Palo Alto, on the site of current El Carmelo School. Exterior and interior shots of fire damage. Segment 3 (silent): Trick or treating scenes, with kids in costume getting cookies, jelly candies, dogs and cats in street. Reel 3: Segment 1 (sound): Reporter Dick Currier speaks to Chief of the Uniformed Division of the San Jose Police Department Elmer Klein about safety on Halloween night. Klein says kids should have reflective material on their costumes if possible; drivers should be extra cautious and drive slowly. Segment 2 (sound): Football stadium (appears to be University of California Berkeley stadium), with marching band performing on the field.
