Complete Record: 1. “Losing the DOG,” 1930s silent, features an Our Gang like cast of children that are being chased by a little DOG with something big in his mouth like a barbell. The children think they lost the DOG when the clever canine hides behind some bushes. The children, feeling confident they have lost the DOG, are surprised by the DOG when it reappears from behind the bushes. 2. “Ma and Pa Kettle at Home,” 1954, Ma and Pa Kettle live in a modern 1950s house on their farm. They have two farmhands who are Native American, they have feathers in their hair. The farm area, however, is old and dilapidated. They have a bull that wears a bowler hat. There is a radio speaker in the shed, the announcer tells of two high school students who won an essay contest in which the prize was a four year college scholarship. One of the student’s was Ma and Pa’s son. The essay was about their farm in which the description was extremely exaggerated. Woman cooking in the kitchen. Man trying to make fire in fireplace. Sink overflowing in the kitchen, soap suds everywhere. part of a tv show. 3.Blackstone, the magician, calls audience members on stage. they stand in line on stage. A variety of men and women dressed in 1950s style clothes. Blackstone performs a card trick. WS the whole time. 4. “Ripley’s Believe it or Not.” 1961, a Sceptre Productions, profiles a Hindu in India who set a record for fasting for 96 days. Camel caravan riding through some palm trees. Footage of “the holiest tree in the world,” in which Buddha sat under and pilgrims go to meditate. Good footage of Indian people, religious and regular. Good CU of a worm crawling in dirt. Good shots of religious people practicing their faith. Footage of an elaborate temple.
