Upside down! How clever.” Daphne replies “Well I had to show off my flaky bottom crust!” 2. BIZ detergent. color, 1969. loudmouth Joanne Worley type chats with black football coach about dirt and grass stains while both are standing in front of a huge pile of laundry. 3. Prell shampoo. color, 1969. CU of woman grinning flirtatiously and lathering her hair while voice-over says ”Pretend you’re anything you want, like a Spanish dancer!”. Woman has shampoo foam helmet, cut to lustrous blonde hair. woman then drops a pearl in a bottle of Prell. “Sinfully rich”. 4. GAIN detergent. color, 1969. A slick man in a suit speaks while tracing the outline of a dirt-covered grimacing football player covered in “body-grime”. “Watch a cleaning revolution!”! He puts the players uniform in the wash , then we see the football player stand again behind the Plexiglas, while narrator guy takes a black pen and traces the areas that were previously dirty but have since been washed with GAIN. Tag line-”Treats stains like dirt!” 5. Spic and Span Floor Cleaner. color, 1969. guy mopping up after closing local Chicken Licken’ restaurant, phone rings, its a Jewish mother type yakking at him telling him he should be using Spic and Span, “It puts POWER in the water”. To his surprise, product is effective. He thanks her. 6. SALVO Clothes Detergent Tablets. color, 1969. elderly mother and her thirty-something son (played by actor Wally Cox in drag) sit in a kitchen talking about his wife’s new job. Mother asks if wife can still take care of her son with all the added responsibility of the busy job, he says yes. Little do they know wife is eavesdropping outside the kitchen door. Mom asks if son is wearing a new shirt, he says “No, Pam washed it in Salvo!” They continue talking about Pam until Pam bursts in with a smile and says” WERE you talking about me? Cute. 7. Breeze Detergent. color, 1968. Joe Namath look alike with a New Yorker accent stands against a white background and exposes his sensitive side by describing the feminine looking towel draped around his neck. “Pretty jazzy huh? Its got all kinds of flowers and ferns all over it. What colors! This blue, it kinda matches my eyes.” The pitch? the towel comes free in a box of Breeze detergent. 8. ALL Dishwashing detergent. color, 1968. ALL strips away spots. Funny little animation of glassware unzipping its outer layer of film, a G-rated burlesque. Soundtrack to match. 9. SAFEGUARD deodorant soap. color, 1969. presents the “Traveling family”. Family of 5 sit and stand against a white background each of them wrapped in nothing but white towels, and tell how they traveled 6000 miles on one kind of soap. They recall how it was 90 degrees at the baseball game but they were still fresh enough afterwards to take in Chinatown! 10. RISE shaving cream. color, 1970. a man shaves without water and lives to tell about it! Close-up of blond man dressed in a cardigan in his forties shaving with RISE cream , it retains moisture so you don’t need water. 11. Shake and Bake. color, 1970. June Lockhart shakes chicken in a bag to demonstrate how Shake and Bake can be a welcome alternative to frying. 12. Maxwell House. color, 1970. camera pans across a lineup of Maxwell House clear glass coffee canisters, filled with various items, grains, candy, a goldfish . Voice-over says “when a woman sees a bargain there’s no stopping her, especially when its free!” Close-up on a housewife smiling sipping her coffee while camera zooms out and we see her kitchen table covered in empty containers Voice-over says ”All you pay for is the coffee.” Close up on housewives palm with a Maxwell House label stuck to it, slow zoom out. 13. Pristine Feminine Hygiene Spray. color, 1969. two women stroll together in an urban setting quickly changing locales , (gives the appearance of a significant amount of time passing) speaking in mellifluous whispers about feminine hygiene. 14. HAND I-WRAP. color, 1973. boy runs into his grandmothers glaring yellow kitchen. Grandma sets desserts on kitchen table. White-gloved magic Handi-Wrap “helping hands” appear suspended in midair holding product. They then demonstrate the many uses of Handi-Wrap, while chirping “That’s Handi-Wrap with Touch Control!” “Helping Hands” then demonstrate how sturdy Zip lock bags are by pouring a pitcher of punch in a bag and shaking it. 15. Betty Crocker’s Snackin’ Cake. color, 1972. ten year old girl with hair parted in the middle and glasses shows moms (in actuality us the audience) how easy Snackin’ Cake is to make, from box to pan to oven. “Best part about snackin’ cake, is snackin!” 16. Betty Crocker Au Gratin potatoes. color, 1972. close-ups and zooms on potatoes, cheese, a knife cutting an onion, cutting celery, zoom on spices. Barry White-like voice-over. 17. Lipton Instant Ice Tea. color, est. early 1970s. a woman outside running to catch a plane, two glasses of ice tea are shoved in the woman’s face by off screen hands, she’s asked to do an instant taste-test. She of course picks the Lipton Instant. Cut to jar of Lipton against white background, slow zoom in. 18. Del Monte canned foods. color, 1973. Aerial overhead shot of vast corn fields, voice-over describes how Del Monte has been perfecting 216 varieties of corn , camera closes in on a man in a denim shirt and khakis holding an ear of the stuff. Cut to montage of various Del Monte canned goods with fast twangy banjo music soundtrack. 19. Thank You brand Zip-quick cherry crisp. color, est. early 1970s. Starts with a close-up on a box of the product being poured into a baking dish. Cut to slightly high angle shot of woman walking the dish across the kitchen to the stove, old man and little boy behind her in frame, dissolve to the old man in the rocker checking his watch, dissolve to medium shot of a little girl in pigtails entering the kitchen searching for where the smell is coming from and ogling the oven, dissolve to little boy sitting far too close to the television with his nose in the air sniffing the baking dessert.
