Campbell’s’ Chicken Noodle Soup. color, est. mid 1970s. some scratches, fairly good color. a boy of about 10 years old in a very 70’s kitchen, does a version of Hamlets’ “to be or not to be” speech for his Mom, posing the question, straight noodles or curly noodles for his chicken soup? Mom is not impressed. 2. Swanson’s Breakfasts. color, est. early 1970s. color fade, slight red shift. Little blond boy about 4 years old asks his young Mom if he can have breakfast for lunch. Mom while in her kitchen speaks to camera and tells how quick and easy it is now for her to make breakfast anytime with Swanson’s frozen breakfasts. CU of pancakes and sausage being drowned in syrup and a fork digging in. Back to CU of Mom, then medium pan of an array of prepackaged Swans breakfasts. 3. Campbell’s Vegetable Soup. color, est. mid 1970s. color fade. Little black boy leaves Mom’s house in suburban environment dressed in baseball uniform, bat over his shoulder and headed for an important game, rushes by a grinning policeman who has just apparently fallen off his bicycle. Mom calls to him from the front door that she has Campbell’s’ vegetable soup for him, he does a 180 turn straight for the house. Cut to CU shot of veggie soup with alphabet letters. Kid at table holding up his bowl for more, Mom looks on approvingly and asks him something about missing his baseball game, kid says the others can wait, HE has the baseball. CU of boys smiling face framed in white, Campbell’s soup can to the left, and the slogan “Mmm Mmm Good” 4. Campbell’s’ Chunky Soup. Color, est. late 1960s. Split screen, to the left, a mousy-looking middle-aged housewife, to the right, a jovial heavyset kitchen chef. Housewife brags that her homemade soup is so fresh and chunky you have to eat with a fork. Chef repeats exactly the same dialogue in reference to Campbell’s’ soup. She swivels her head right to grimace at him beyond the black line separating them. CU of soup and soup spoon, Chefs’ voice is heard saying you’ll want to eat it with a spoon to get every drop. MS of cans of Chunky Soup lined up in a row. Slogan overheard “So chunky you’ll want to eat it with a fork” 5. TAB soft drink. color, est. mid 1970s. color fade. brunette in strappy white/pink see-through sunfrock walks towards camera. She is backlit by corona of sunshine . She’s very obviously in a park. She is holding a bottle of TAB at her side as she saunters across the grass towards us. In a very breathy voice she tells us that we can enjoy TAB for just one calorie more than water. CU of refreshing looking glass full of ice cubes with TAB logo on it. TAB is then poured over ice. She continues with the breathy voiceover, cut to MS of her looking flirtatiously at the camera, holding the glass of TAB next to her face. 5. RecipeBrand DOG Food. color, est. late 1970s. blond kid , six or seven yrs old sits on steps with his gigantic mutt sitting next to him. He talks about mixing how he used to just pour water over dry DOG food , but now with Recipe Brand mixing chunks, DOGgie gets more of a real dinner. DOG nuzzles up to kid, CU of boys’ hand holding the can and pouring it over dry food. MS of DOG and boy, DOG eating from a metal bowl in boy’s lap, boy smiles. 6.
