Civil war, a poor man's fight

fought on the battlefield Union private Henry Fleming experiences an inner private war between bravery and Dread anticipation and fear to many who fought in it North and South this Civil War was a rich man's war and a poor man's fight all the politicians argued over slavery and states rights ordinary soldiers wondered what do you suppose the name of this year battle is going to be the reasons for going to war the great causes are easily forgotten on the battlefield what remains is the personal struggle within each Soldier Will I be brave will I run will I die Spring 1862 the bloody war between the states t of great movement shook the land marches sieges conflicts but for the untried Army on the Rapa hanic war was simply a matter of waiting waiting and endless Drilling [Music] saw the orders we're going up the river River cut across and come around in behind them but what I don't understand is why we going up River instead of down where the land's flat and cleared us and on the right I separated yeah and he got shot in the head and he's in a terrible fix I ought to look after him right away all right well better take care of him hurts hurts like places bleeding all the way here but it stopped now I guess terrible pain when I got hit must have been unconscious for a long time I come too I thought I'd peel over from the hurt it give me when I started walking you know I I might have a bullet in the head a wound like that likely to be fatal have a look at your head Henry maybe it's so bad oh you're mighty lucky Henry it's ain't as bad as you feared you've been grazed by a ball it's raised AER sort of a lump just as some fell lams you on the head with a club well most of it is that in the morning you'll feel that a number 10 hat wouldn't fit you you might get some other ailments too you can't never tell still I don't much think so it's just a dang good belt on the head and nothing more I'll have you fixed up in just about a minute you don't holler or say nothing I'm a blacksmith that taking care of alen folks and you never even squeak you're a Braven Henry most men would have been Hospital long ago Tom yeah did thee anyone say anything about me being missing no now the regiment lost over half its men and I thought of course they was all dead but laws they keep coming back till it seems after all we didn't lose but a few they were scattered all over Meandering around in the woods and fighting with other regiments just like you I brought your watchback oh thanks he had performed his mistakes in the dark so he was still a man well Henry what do you think the chances are you think we'll wall up them not if we don't do a lot better than we done yesterday where I was over on the right I'd say that we was getting a good pound you think so I thought we handled him pretty rough not at all well man you didn't see none of the fight n compared to what you saw I guess well maybe we are in for a linking well Wilson what's got into you David before yesterday you was going to lick the whole Kaboodle all by yourself was I perhaps I was how you wasn't NE all you need in mind Henry I reckon I was a pretty big fool in those days you talk
