This is a video of a kinetic light "sculpture," aka "lumia," called Chromos 5, made in 1971 by Earl Reiback. It's basically a black box about the size of a mid-sized home speaker that creates a constantly evolving light show when you turn it on. Reiback's designs were produced commercially, but this one is a signed/dated original, presumably made by hand by the artist.

There's actually two clips here, that I edited together by crossfading somewhere around the middle. I tried to make the edit as seamless as possible.

The music is the first 14 minutes of a sort of "remix" I made of Barber's Adagio For Strings, which I call "Adagissississississimo For Strings." I used Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch to stretch the piece out to about 2 hours in length. The net effect is an extreme blurring together of the harmonic progression of the piece, with the melody more or less subsumed into the ambient soundscape. I thought it went well with the visuals.
