Description: A remarkable surviving excerpt from a lost feature travelogue, this short was shot between 1922 and 1927 by American filmmaker Isaac Upham, who lived in China during that period with the assistance of Chinese filmmaker Moon Kwan, and was eventually released through the Kodak Film Library after Upham's full-length "Pieces of China" could not secure commercial distribution. What remains are extraordinary black-and-white images of Peking, Mukden, Tientsin, Nankow, and Shanghai captured during one of the most turbulent and historically significant periods in modern Chinese history — a rare window into a world that would soon be transformed beyond recognition.
