20 Africans were landed in America in 1619, one year before the Mayflower. By 1860, there were 4 million black men, women, and children, the private property of white America. The new world meant possession to the white man. It meant dispossession to the black man. Slavery was an attitude as much as a condition, and attitudes black land can be inherited.
