Description: Produced by the Austin Chamber of Commerce, this film combines footage of various agency happenings during the 1940s. The film begins with a staff picnic in Zilker Park, complete with yard games and a buffet line. Later, the camera captures a University of Texas student demonstration down Congress Avenue. On November 2, 1944, some 8,000 students marched to the Texas State Capitol to protest the termination of University President Homer Rainey by the Board of Regents. Rainey had publicly criticized the Board for its attempts to suppress instruction of John Dos Passos’ novel, USA.
