Description: Footage from an Austin based network news affiliate features a crowd gathered at the scene of a car wreck. Around midnight on the night of Thursday, September 17, 1964, an Italian sports car driven by First Lieutenant Gerald W. Sorenson went over the cliff side of Mount Bonnell Road. The car, as dimly seen in the film, caught onto a tree which saved it from a 200-foot plunge into Lake Austin. The car was later winched from the cliff-side by a Preece’s Body Shop truck. Amazingly, the driver and his passenger suffered only minor injuries.
