Description: Bash describes the workings of a canal and shows how it is possible to make a ship “go upstairs” from one water level to another. The reasons for digging canals are discussed along with the importance of canals such as the Erie Canal and the Panama Canal. The influence of canals on the lives of people in this country is explained. Songs include “Erie Canal,” “Venezuela” and “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.”
