what we have today long and straight many many centuries they served in religious ceremonies and fields of battle [Music] here's Herald trumpets could be used only in the service loyalty the horn came to us from the hunting fields of France as the rider needed one hand to lead the horse the tube of the horn was rounded into which could be rested on one [Music] the French horn was brought from Lourdes to the orchestra just to play Huntington's only after the valves were developed did the French horn become a true musical instrument capable of playing a complete chromatic scale of almost four octaves [Music] the French horns play melon velvety tones that blend well with woodwinds or pounce that combine well [Music] [Music] the trumpet is the dramatic soprano of the orchestra with the help of valves the trumpet can play all tones of the skate wire [Music] the trombone is the leader of the low voices unlike the horn or the trumpet the trombone has neither keys nor valves the player changes pitch by moving the slide in and out [Music] Adolphe Sax who invented the saxophone also developed the tumor as the lowest voice and his family of sax horns a brass choir of this Symphony Orchestra and of many other large symphonic groups is composed of one tuba [Music] four trombones three trumpets [Music] and for French horns [Music] the brass joined the orchestra in full force out of the military band this was the rocket sea March in a band music arrangement the same March as belly O's composed it for the symphony off [Music] when you see brass players shake their instruments it means that they are cleaning out breath condensation from the tubes in spite of their military background brass instruments can produce mellow and tall harmonies like in this passage from the prelude to vogner's opera Lohengrin [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] it was only about a hundred years ago that the grass has assumed the important place in the orchestra where we know them today the Hungarian composer of that period Franz Liszt in his often played they pray dude gives the brass a leading role here then is an example of a composition which is noble martial dignified the brasses truly set the mood for the entire orchestra [Music] [Music]
