Description: The film explains the factors which led Simon Bolivar to abandon his fortune and position to devote his life to the development of democracy in South America., Discusses important factors in, and related to, the life of Simon Bolivar, utilizing animated maps, views of historic sites in four South American nations, and still pictures of artistic representations of relevant persons and events in Bolivar's life. Follows the vicissitudes of the fight by Bolivar for South American liberation from Spanish control, a struggle which eventually succeeded. The hopes and dreams of Bolivar, however, did not end with South American independence. He sought an eventual union of all American nations: but, divisive forces proved too strong and resulted in the creation and continuance of separate nation-states.
