From head: BANO 14871 - Eldridge Cleaver Interview 1977 Eldridge Cleaver, wearing white suit, gives a press conference after he has renounced armed struggle, exits the Oakland Alameda County Courthouse and steps in a car. Cleaver gives another press conference. BANO 12666 - Eldridge Cleaver 1980 CU of Eldridge waiting for the elevator. CU of him being interviewed, saying he is here to give service to the community since we have so many problems. Basically continue to work in areas he’s already been working in, as well as put an emphasis on working with unemployed people. He’s asked about young people that have had problems with the law? He says he wants to focus on a union for unemployed people. If you don’t have a job, you can’t go on strike or boycott anyone. He’s asked if he’s met with his probation officer yet? He replies no. One of the things that are missing is a strong foundation with Jesus Christ. Negative footage: 1969 An interview of Cleaver asking how he $50,000 raised bail? Lawyer Charles Mcgarry and Kathleen Cleaver stand behind Eldridge Cleaver as he gives press conference in book lined room. Mr. Cleaver doesn’t want to speak. A man says it was raised by the community. Lawyers, entertainers, etc., help with the raising of money. Oakland police charge is questioned. Mr. Cleaver says its a lie and hopefully they’ll be able to prove that it is. BANO 13625 - Kathleen Cleaver Silent footage. MS of African American man being interviewed, Pans left to Kathleen Cleaver sitting next to him on the couch. Kathleen begins to talk. MS of man talking. The interview goes back iand forth between the two. Kathleen holds up a black panthers newspaper and reads something from it. CU of her speaking. Shows her smoking a cigarette. She’s quite animated as she speaks. BANO 13624 - Kathleen Cleaver Silent footage. MS of Kathleen Cleaver during an interview. She’s speaking with her hands a lot. During the interview picks up a newspaper that says, “ Free Huey,” She raises her fists and says, (something like) Freedom and power to the people. Various close up shots of her talking.
