Bed and sofa

The premise for this comedy is Moscow's housing shortage. A husband, who takes his wife for granted, brings home a friend to sleep on the sofa. Before long, it is the husband who must sleep on the sofa. Pregnant, without being sure of the father, the woman eventually abandons both men. This satiric comedy reflects Room's attention to detail and depicts the tension arising out of life in crowded quarters. The film was not widely seen outside the Soviet Union due to its treatment of forbidden subjects, adultery and abortion. (Circulates)
