Description: Ever since Ruben Dario's poem, Azul, first appeared in 1888, Nicaragua has been known as a nation of poets. This non-traditional documentary interweaves twenty-four poems to create a poetic narrative of the Nicaraguan people and culture. The scope of Nicaragua's poetic sensibilty is evidenced in interviews with Dona Chavarria, a peasant woman from the Solentiname Islands, with Chele, a soldier fighting the Contras near the Honduran border, and with Jose Coronel Urtecho, 82-year-old grand master of Nicaraguan letters. The film debates the role of poetry in revolution and the new Nicaraguan society.
