so so so so all right so that's enough of that um take my glasses off hey i'm skip alzheimer welcome to the av geeks lunchtime streaming show it is uh june 7th and um yeah that was uh how to use the optical reading um theo delight which is some sort of surveying equipment it looks like um so um it didn't have sound uh and it's part of a collection i got from um ren's rensselaer polytechnic they got rid of a bunch of their films and i got it um and so i'm sure if somebody googles they'll figure out like what that product was used for uh in the meantime we're very excited that general tire has introduced the dual s90 series of tires let's learn about it [Music] this film is about a tire a tire you have never seen before the all-new the revolutionary dual s90 by general designed to provide more safety for the motorist who wants all the protection he can get in today's high-speed traffic for himself for his family for the other fellow a beauty isn't it with the most unique sidewall design ever seen complete with general's own brand which instantly identifies itself and you the dual s90 is tough with more built-in safety features than any tire made we call it the sidewinder let's consider the dual s 90s features all of them one at a time take the tread for instance ever seen anything like it the answer is no nobody has because this is a brand new concept in safety tread design all new a technological breakthrough here's a head-on view notice the center void general has made the big move the void is now 5 8 of an inch closer to the outside now you have three running traction ribs inside and two steering traction ribs outside the outer shoulder is slightly larger in circumference than the inboard shoulder the track looks like this different you bet on curves and corners this unique hi-lo tread delivers greater lateral thrust result far easier steering and greater stability here's a tread that puts the traction where the action is the sidewinder and you still have all the advantages of the famous load sharing dual radii [Music] like a motorcycle side car provides scuff-free rolling action and the two-fisted grab of dual treads for stops that can save lives on wet roads water can be trapped under the tread pressure builds up steering control is often affected the sidewinder's big center void minimizes this hazard [Music] the duo last night he features all new construction the court angle is lower this seemingly slight alteration makes all the difference in the world in all around performance the sidewinder gives a cloud soft ride plus improved stability good points to remember add to this a new lower profile a 78 to 100 width to height ratio that's another reason for the sidewinder sensational new ride [Music] then consider the s90 shoulders they're different one round one square the rounded shoulders on the inside put there to help you climb back on the pavement at high speed the square outboard shoulder is designed to keep you on the road in the first place not a bad combination [Music] then there's the matter of tread noise it annoys it fatigues it happens when the non-skid pattern is the same the full width of the tire resonance builds up the harmonics of the dual s90 are as perfect as a tread pattern can be the quiet ride is here no limping home on a half inflated tire no hundred mile helpers the sidewinder seals punctures as it rolls so there you have it the dual s90 buy general the sidewinder a major breakthrough in safety tire design and construction look again at this proud successor to the famous puncture ceiling dual 90 the newest in a long line of tires built for safety-minded motorists everywhere first you have a revolutionary high low dual tread non-skid pattern of patented duragen rubber quieter with a measurable improvement in stability easier steering more mileage and stopping power like never before built a famous nigen cord at a new lower angle this is general's pre-stressed nylon pound per pound stronger than steel cable for general's maximum blow out protection a lower softer riding cross-section stratoseal puncture ceiling safety and convenience with a unique branded sidewall different from any other tire ever made by anybody anywhere carrying the best known premium tire name in the business produced by the best known maker of quality tires in the world this is the tire for the safety-minded motorists for the automobile owner who will not compromise remember the name the dual s90 sidewinder by general well that was exciting i'm going to adjust the levels on this camera um just a little bit here saturation there we go not so weird and peachy um yeah so that that uh film came from a guy who shot footage for a general tire he was based in cleveland and his company did a variety of different things and so i have some general tire uh films it's pretty great uh this is part of that that wonderful uh calvin um alcoa management series i i don't i'd look to see if i had shown in the past and i have not so you got to show it um will this be insulting to women there's a pretty good chance here's in the middle [Music] i don't know sometimes i wonder what's the use you beat your brains out fight for the people who work for you and what do you get a headache oh my name is louis i i run this department design department well you know how it is sometimes you're busy and sometimes you're not and the other day the boss called me in al simpson he's the division manager what's up all well things are pretty slow jim we're gonna have to cut down on our help and we figure you can get by with one less girl here we go again every year it's the same thing you just get your help trained where they can give you a good day's work out then you have to let them go i'm gonna tell her things might pick up in a month or two tell her you'll call her back oh you know i'll never get that same girl again then i have to go out and hire another one and it's a couple of months before she's any good to me jimmy you were telling me yourself just a couple of days ago that you haven't got enough work to do to keep everyone busy you know we can't afford to keep people on around here when there's nothing to do well it seems to me there ought to be some way to work this out in a couple of months we'll be loaded with work again and then the cycle starts all over well why not use this as a weeding out period are all your girls doing a good job yeah yeah they are ali even the newest girl is doing a bang-up job all right jim what are you suggesting well look al i i know you don't like to do it but how about letting me transfer one of my girls to accounting for a couple of months now only yesterday willard was telling me all over again how badly he needed some help we've tried that before it just doesn't work willard needs experienced help you boys always want to let your least experienced girl go tell you what i'll let willard have my best girl she worked in accounting several years ago but he has to agree it's only temporary within two months i get her back you're willing to do that yeah yeah as long as it's on a temporary basis that way in two months i'll have my help again willard chase and accounting please who's a girl mark roberts willard al simpson have you found a girl to help out with your final report yet how would you like to use one of lewis's girls on a temporary basis marge roberts she's a great worker i'll have her down here anytime okay we'll ever report to you in the morning well that works out all right for everybody thanks al thanks for helping me out on this uh marge i was talking to mr simpson a while ago and things are pretty slow in the department the way they are every year at this time and as usual mr simpson wants me to lay off one of the girls me well i was hoping to work it out so it wouldn't be anybody oh you see i worked out a deal with willard chase in accounting he can use a girl for a couple of months it's it's annual report time who's going mr lewis well i i told him you were and he said fine but i didn't like working for mr chase this is only temporary mine why do i have to go why not send somebody else why not send one of our newest girls no no that'd be betty i can't send her he needs an experienced girl like you now now you've worked there before you know the ropes well i don't see why i should have to go just to keep betty working a couple of months look marge there are some things we all have to do that we don't like i've got some problems running this department that you can't be expected to know anything about i have to make decisions willard's not a monster and two months isn't forever i've got it all arranged now and i've got no good reason to change it willard expects you to report to him first thing in the morning okay [Music] and on top of that i just don't like willard chase he's a regular slave driver i don't blame you i don't like him either what about our new girl betty stanley why didn't they send her i wouldn't stop with louis i'd go straight to the front office if it were me right to mr simpson [Music] come in i'm sorry to bother you mr simpson but can i see you for a minute why certainly come in i'm marge roberts mr simpson oh yes you're the one going to accounting in the morning well now that's what i want to talk to you about you see i went to accounting i don't suppose i'll ever know exactly what marge said to al simpson but there's one thing i'm sure of she said plenty as a general rule marge is quiet industrious cooperative but she also has a faculty of being very firm in her opinions once they're made well i'm sorry miss roberts i wish you didn't feel that way well i'm sorry too mr simpson but i do feel that way now i realize your position but well i simply won't go if that gets me fired well that'll have to be all right too [Music] get me louis well he got me i bust my back to keep my girls and look what happens now the old man thinks that i don't know how to handle my help and the rest of the girls are mad at me for picking on marge and me i'm right in the middle taking it out on the wife at home so she's mad at me too what's the guy supposed to do [Music] what is a guy supposed to do breaking my back keeping those girls around um of course we know that calvin reinforced the idea that working women were often called girls she's my best girl um and they just roll with it like during the entire series there's even other calvin films there's one called abc of film direction and it involves like in a office setting and it's uh they refer to girls and there's a note written on the can a handwritten note that says you know caution contains offending outdated uh language so it definitely raises hackles when i show it um but uh all right so this next film uh will raise hackles no actually wait a minute no i've actually got the telecini hooked up back here telecity is the machine that i use to transfer films live and i got uh some footage donated uh last week by someone who was moving from raleigh and was like here i've been i've held on to this for 30 years and i think you should have it so there's been a mixed bag of stuff so there were some trailers last week there was a film called it's women's work um which was a weird film about egyptian women and their position in the workplace that was both empowering and insulting at the same time and so this is it looks like it's kind of some random miscellaneous stock footage so um there's uh there's like these typewritten lists of of things so let's see let's see what we got all right here's miscellaneous stock footage the budget and fiscal policies that i am proposing will serve the most urgent needs of our people promote efficient performance of governmental functions and help release the break well uh this is very easily seen by the growth of our company we're 10 years old and up to somewhere over 250 employees their loyalty their desire to do a good job their interest in their job is such that the quality of the workmanship we get from our various employees has enabled us to have this phenomenal growth yes there are real advantages i think of uh talking of absenteeism i can recall one night i slept in a in my car at brookline village we had a severe ice storm here in boston and i called the plant the next morning at 10 o'clock 31 people were supposed to be in 30 were in one young boy walked four miles on crutches across the city of somerville due to the fact that there was absolutely no public transportation and of course i think you'll all recall our private transportation just stayed where it was [Music] mr slavin just what is the company accomplished by the radiation of fish and shellfish well with the radiation palmer you use radiation energy to kill off about 99 of the bacteria and when you do this and then refrigerate the product you can start for about 30 days this is a triple extension and shelf life of the product so you can provide actually fresh fish to many people in inland areas in the country that are not now receiving it let's provide a better distribution for seafood products and perhaps create a bigger demand on the fishermen in the long run we're very hopeful that this will expand uh present markets and while frozen fish have very good acceptability this will result in a new product really to many people who do not now get fresh fish just how does the radiator itself work how do you feed the fish in and what happens to it inside uh the radiator it's a continuous process and we have cobalt 60 which is centered over the product you see and then the product is just conveyed in tins past the cobalt 60 and the energy from the cobalt 60 accomplishes the radiation and kills off as i said about 99 of the bacteria we're worried quite a bit about radiation mr nixon would you tell us about well in 1964 i intend to work for the candidate nominated by my party the republican party at its convention uh i've never been a member of that school of politics that follows the line that you can't have the prize yourself to assault or sit it out i think that we need new leadership in washington i think one of several men would provide that leadership and once the convention makes its decision i'm going to work to the extent that my time will permit me just as much and as hard for that candidate as i did for myself would you respect the possible candidates at this stage while the front-running candidate according to the polls is governor rockefeller of new york in addition to governor rockefeller there's senator goldwater of arizona governor romney of michigan and governor stanton of pennsylvania i believe that the republican candidate in 64 will probably be one of those four men and that the one selected will be the one who does the best job in the positions he presently holds and who puts on the best campaign in the primary [Music] well i uh i have no doubt i think that we were under surveillance when we were there a certain amount of the time anyway you were assigned an interpreter would he have been playing a dual role i wouldn't think so it seemed like he would have been no how did this uh strike you how did you feel as a performer with nikita khrushchev upfront well uh that was the opening night in moscow and i would say it was completely a bureaucratic audience and uh it wasn't the easiest audience i've ever played with put it quietly was there any foot tapping by mr chris jeff as he watched well i think everybody uh all the other party members waited until he applauded before they applauded [Music] why do you favor the postponement of the effective date of the code of ethics in the conflict of interest law well i think i as a town official of goodyear many years experienced myself and i've been involved in uh legal affairs i find that there are very few if anybody who can agree on just what this law means and i think when you've got a law that is the subject of so many uh cross-interpretations and conflicts within itself that something should be done such as i suggest postponing it uh so that we can have a chance to study this law and see where we're coming out [Music] [Music] point about accessibility and illusion glazing would have no part in this work the glazing would be extraneous glazing would interfere with the surface the subtle surfaces built up as the pieces being made to them or too much of a surface of their as commissioner of public safety and head of the massachusetts state police with the responsibility for the protection of the lives the property and safety of over five and a half million of our citizens i feel that i must remain consistent and oppose the abolition of the death penalty in massachusetts for 15 years as a member legislature i was one of those who continually oppose the abolition of the death penalty with an increase in our felonious crimes and massachusetts in the nation i feel that this is the wrong time to lower the barriers in crime detection and the punishing of criminal offenders i strongly urge the legislature not to abolish the death penalty in massachusetts the president is ascending to congress today an omnibus education bill which takes a unified and comprehensive approach to all phases of educational needs in this country higher education elementary and secondary schools teacher quality and preparation vocational and special education and other subjects now this comprehensive balanced measure i'm sure deserves prompt consideration and careful consideration by congress and i'm sure will receive prompt and careful consideration of course it's been considered in past years so the committee uh committee of congress to which it will be referred as held its very extensive hearings in past years and legislation has been reported out of committee and in the case of the coverage of university built past both branches and then we know what happened last year uh the as we know the soviet union and the president discussed it so frequently in press conferences and and other and other occasions as soviet union is graduating three times as many engineers and making a much greater effort in education than we are the following is from a national instructional television series the series and related materials were developed and supported by 32 educational agencies i thought i hit the sound button anyways um very quickly to recap uh none of the shots in that last film actually were on the list that was included in the can and i think that had been what i thought was the largest bowling alley in the world but it obviously was set up in a stadium this next film is um from inside out uh 1970s uh wonderful pbs show that was also distributed to schools this is called jeff's company the following is from a national instructional television series the series and related materials were developed and supported by 32 educational agencies with additional support from exxon corporation [Music] [Music] oh [Music] hey jeff remember tomorrow all my cousins are coming up from provo it'll be the best roundup we've had yet oh great can i bring our own horse sure all our cousins are bringing up their own bring her up my truck okay great try to come up and then after there's going to be a big sucker and square dancing and everything see if you can spend the night well you sure are alone out here what do you do without any brothers or friends oh i've always lived way out here i like it i'll be looking for you tomorrow [Music] bye [Music] so [Music] hey you know that kid i was talking to you about that lives at big cottonwood canyon let's see um is that the boy with the big family the one that's in your classes yeah well anyway he's inviting me to their fall roundup they're bringing all their cattle in for the auction the only problem is big cottonwood canyons about 40 miles away i don't know how we get smokey up there and back again couldn't that take me out then in the morning and bring me back at night that isn't much for taking pla people places jeffrey unless it's really important i don't know what he'll say about taking the horse to cottonwood but it is important i never get to do things with kids out along here every weekend oh you've never minded before why all this fuss about it all of a sudden well i always thought things to do when i smile but i really like to do things with the other kids now please let me ask dad well i'll tell you what honey why don't you let me ask him i'll do it first thing in the morning when he's in a good mood hi smokey i've got a surprise for you we're not going fishing this saturday we're not gonna go out in the mountains looking for birds either but we've been invited to a roundup there'll be lots of kids and lots of horses the only trouble is we can't get them this dead texas i talked to them all about it she said she'd ask dad first thing this morning but i don't see how she's had a chance to talk to dad because dad's been working in the sheep pens ever since he got up any time can you talk to her at all no well well just for a minute i guess this is all why what's wrong son you got yourself in some kind of trouble at school oh anything i'm gonna help you sure can would you help me with that gate come on okay let him out okay you want to run up there and open the gate and i'll push these sheep work the gates done [Music] just fill that fit we finally made it yep [Applause] dan do you think then that you would be able to take jeffrey to big cottonwood canyon this morning i've got 15 dozen things that we've got to get done here today or i can't i can't take the time dan i grew up in town with other girls and i know how important it was it's important to jeffrey that he be with other boys his own age oh i don't think so i grew up out here this was good enough for me i had a horse i had my things that i could do things that i could create and have fun with and i i just simply didn't need these friends that we're talking about i don't think jeff needs these friends dan please take him he wants to go so badly i know but you have to you have to understand that there's so many things to do and i don't think jeffrey needs to go i i just don't feel like that it's worth my trouble to go round up that horse get the truck ready take the time to take him over there and i i just don't hear what i don't think we can do you make me so mad father we just cannot do this now we just simply got to forget about it and that's it [Music] [Music] hey jeff what are you sure what do you do without any brothers and friends [Music] i grew up out here this was good enough for me i just simply didn't need these friends that we're talking about i don't think jeff needs these fans hey there's my friend jeff how are you doing up here dressed like that don't you know we had snow at this time of the year yeah but i was then wasn't thinking just wrote off oh boy you look kind of mad what's the matter well one of my friends invited me to round up and mom and dad got an argument mom says i need this kid and dad says that he didn't have the time to take me and i always find something to do on all the other weekends and so i just rolled off oh golly i wonder who's right your mom or your dad i don't know i'm kind of mixed up about it well there's lots of things to do other than roundup well you live up here don't you get lonely well i don't know i take that old trailer up the hills and live with the sheep all summer and i come down live in the hut here in the winter as long as i've got good friends like you to come see me i don't need anybody else well what about when you were my age didn't you wish you had somebody to talk to well god i've lived this way for so long i really don't remember what it was like when i was your age yes besides sex in a couple years or a few years while you'll be able to drive yourself any place you want that's a long time well not really too long besides it's too beautiful a day to be worrying about roundups i wanted to go so bad though well i know you do jeff but there's an awful lot of things you can do here we'll get you warmed up and then not tell you look just look at that country you can ride in [Music] boy smokey when i get big i'm going to hold a roundup that's going to have 2 000 head of cattle and when i get through there is going to be a supper that lasts all night and 200 of my friends and lots of horses that you can talk to and i'll be the boss of the whole thing [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] come on smokey joe there's no roundup today let's go for a ride maybe we can find bobcat tracks remember that one we saw last year he sure was big [Music] inside out is a series of programs and related materials developed and supported by 32 educational agencies in the united states and canada with additional support from exxon corporation this program was produced by wnvt northern virginia educational television under the supervision of nit national instructional television wow this is weird that that was made by um northern virginia that obviously wasn't shot in northern virginia um at least i don't think but um yeah such so great just the um futility of growing up in that situation and just not having those options i mean i was always pretty lucky to have kids around me um or you know relatively close to me and i'm sure he goes to school so he sees
