quite awake yet some of you commented that you saw the Mystery Science Theater live event of the social distancing event last night yes that was exciting because they at the end of the movie that they they rescreened they showed a new film that they ripped on live that was called circus day which they got from my archive so I was pretty excited and I got a weird shout out from Joel he said thanks AV Club and he meant maybe he meant me I'm I want to say he met me I'm giving him that that it was live so um maybe maybe it was AV Club the onion AV Club which they're awesome people too so what's happening what's going on maybe this film won't answer that question [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Wow yeah I love those encyclopedia britannica magic moment films they drive adults a little crazy because they don't have any type of narrative or really any explanation - what's going on and actually that's the point so you would see a scenario like a vignette then they're that weird little bit of a thing would appear and that's basically where the teacher would stop the projector and then ask the students in class who were probably fairly young to say like what happened what was happening in that what was you know and ask questions to provoke discussion these are all provocative scenarios and then in fact the whole magic moment series is filled with provocative material so kids can respond to it and providing imagery and you know things to question and the visuals and yes it somebody commented this doesn't really seem like an encyclopedia britannica film that is correct many encyclopedia britannica films a pretty standard educational voice of god narration but in the late 60s and early 70s they decided to kind of create the series of wild films and I've shown one or two and I'll keep showing more because they're so great so bizarre anyways so some people know that today is May the 4th so it seemed appropriate to show this film hopefully I won't get in trouble here we go [Music] hardware wars a spectacle it's time starring Luke Starbuck intergalactic Boy Wonder Augie Ben doggie venerable member of the red-eye Knights if you can be good because hardware wars the sprawling space saga of romance rebellion and household appliances hardware wars you'll laugh you'll drive kiss three bucks goodbye coming soon to a theater near you get in line now the forest be with [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] such a great film I first saw this back in the eighties so I had was lucky to have cable television and we had HBO and HBO before it was 24 hours it would only come on like 6 o'clock to 4 o'clock or something like in the morning there's something like that it was you know it was only in the evening they didn't have enough programming and so what they would do is so they would show a feature film and then they would Pat it with whatever and they so they patted it with a lot of films from pyramid media and so I saw this I saw closet cases of the nerd kind which is an amazing film which I am trying to locate it's a parody of course Close Encounters I don't know if they showed the other Ernie fossa leus I don't know if that's correct way to process name but he did a parody of Apocalypse Now called pork lips now which is about barbecue me look it's just kind of because but there were other films recorded line was one that was fascinating and I actually showed that a couple of weeks ago it's about a guy that applies for a job at a TV station and escapes a living videotape monster but yeah there was this kind of that magical time and what's great is I've run across many of the films that they used to show is those shorts not that I now have in my collection and another one is called vicious cycles which I have not shown recently but I probably will at some point coming up but amazing stuff and just the witty very short you know that's what you want a nice little taste the short film um it really got my brain percolating when I saw it because I was high school or just like eighth grade seventh eighth grade you know when your brain is primed for stuff like that and of course I love Star Wars Star Wars was my favorite movie Walt at the time and to see somebody pick one of it in a loving way in hilarious way it was right I really liked okay so speaking of hardware and speaking of Hamilton Beach electric knives here is a film about how great they are [Music] [Applause] these are the hands of a master chef Monsieur Rene they don't shift to famous hotels and restaurants in Paris and New York and former chef to the White House a master chef who knows the importance of the art of carving no matter how you prepare meat is the finest appetite appealed the pounds but now well it is carved any food meat in particular must appeal first to the eye shifts in commercial kitchens know this whether carving a pork loin or a leg of lamb they no cuts should be consistently smooth and even that each portion should look tender and appetizing a good chef knows the importance of economy to meat must be carved attractively but profitably with a minimum of waste and the more easily it is done the better that's why I use the new amacom beech commercial electric knife here is a knife that every shape and everyone in the kitchen who carves or cuts will appreciate more than any other knife the Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife will help you make short clean work of all your carving slice after slice at exactly the thickness you want with less waste of meat and was much less work on your part the Hamilton Beach knife is a clean cutting easy knife to use and control and not just for carving meat but for any other cutting job that has to be done in the commercial kitchen the new Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife is heavy-duty and built to last it's the new Big Brother to the popular consumer knife the one with the famous hold in the handle a design that makes both knives unique the moment you take it in your hand even if your hand is wet or greasy you appreciate the balanced non-slip grip in fact this knife is so well balanced that women use it with the greatest of ease with the weight below the hand the knife literally holds itself in a comfortable carving position even for horizontal slicing in the Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife the blades that turn not the knife simply snap lock them into a vertical or horizontal position with a simple turn of the turret for left-handed slicing merely insert the blades upside down and turn or rotate the blades normally the on/off button is conveniently located under your thumb a safety trigger locks the off position until you grip the handle it is no problem at all to control the thickness of each portion the slice indicator attached to the turret measures the desired thickness of each cut slice after slice whatever the meat the effortless accurate cutting action is always the same this action is particularly important in carving such meats as corned beef with a regular knife the meat is apt to move on the cutting board the results are often uneven but with the reciprocal cutting action of a Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife there is no heavy knife pressure to make control of the meat difficult the meat is lightly held and the edges of each slice are firm and clean-cut the versatile Hamilton Beach knife is ideal - for cubing raw meat for stews and Raghu's the indicator guide assures uniformity of pieces ease of cutting speeds this operation the delicate task of cutting fish is a snap with this versatile convenient tool when slices are extra thin there is little or no waste Hamilton Beach portion control means extra sandwiches - from every cut of meat no matter what it is savings like these add up fast when sandwiches are made stack them up and cut several at once the electric knife goes through as if they were butter wherever you need a knife to carve or to cut you can do the job better faster and more easily with a Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife tomatoes cucumbers green peppers pickles celery and many other vegetables name it the reciprocal action of the blades takes the work out of cutting or carving fruits pineapples grapefruit oranges lemons avocados bananas soft fruits are firm pears delicate fruits or fruits with thick skins they're all the same to the Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife cheese any kind that stands up to the cutting edge of a knife and even those that tend to crumble or collapse will cut more easily with a Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife the most delicate pastries cakes bread whatever their consistency no cutting pressure is necessary as with conventional knives the cutting is done by reciprocating blades they don't press they cut each knife comes complete with two sets of stainless steel blades extra wide and extra long with a full ten and a half inches of cutting edge blades are released by pressing the release button safely located underneath the housing blades must be in a vertical position to put them back you simply snap them into place no fear of an electric shock with a Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife your hands are completely insulated from all electrical contact every part of the Hamilton Beach is of heavy-duty construction a powerful motor in a durable case is made to handle the heaviest workload of a busiest commercial kitchen the new Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife has been thoroughly tested in a wide variety of applications from large hotels and restaurants to the smallest of lunch counters and delicatessen everywhere the reaction is the same now that we have tried the Hamilton Beach commercial electric knife we could never be without it unskilled help can be taught to use it within minutes it's like adding another pair of skilled hands at unskilled cost or for tableside carving experience has proven that diners love to watch this efficient beautifully designed knife in action here is everything you could ask for and more than you will ever get from an ordinary knife safety durability and greater than ever convenience ask a master chef who knows I am proud to use this new electric knife it is not a complicated device foreign to a Carver's Abbot's and techniques it is a step forward in the art of carving a great help in every kitchen cutting job everything you do with an ordinary knife you can do better more easily and more profitably with an Amazon beats commercial electric knife you that accent on that chef is so thick glorious I guess they they felt like well we don't really understand what he's saying but you know he's legit he's a legit French chef who knows so we will excuse sounds like he's talking with a bunch of marbles in his mouth uh so um I didn't say it but I'm skip Alzheimer I collect old films and show them to folks like you but most of you probably already know that so thanks again for joining us this is I think the start of the eighth week and I very much enjoy spending this time and showing things to you so this next film was part of a show that I did called SS for [ __ ] and it was films about sissy's and about the definition of what a [ __ ] was and was is a [ __ ] a real thing or what so this is uh Williams doll [Music] I've been constantly between William Empire my dreams and wishes and be my little friend [Music] telling my mouth [Music] [Music] I have wondered just what this beam [Music] somebody real special to share his time [Music] when I sleep at night tell him all my secrets when the morning comes your way to share our time together special hello there [Music] hey you guys better not shine my dad wants me to get right home after school I can read for a while okay come on let's go [Applause] hey William you did oh that's great good for you William I like to have you meet mrs. Lawson loss of this way oh well hello there William hi and this is Melissa [Music] [Music] [Music] hi Ryan what you doing boomer oh can I help - sure [Music] [Music] hey William do you know you like dolls yeah you know you're busy come on look daddy I don't wanna creep Ready Set hut hey nice crown [Music] oh hi and here's a letter from Gramps [Music] hey Gramps is coming for your birthday let's know what you want could I have a doll that's all dolls are for girls how about a football helmet that's for boys doll [Music] are you still awake I had a great day how about you did you enjoy your birthday yeah grandpa it was a real good birthday I like to football a lot but there's something else isn't it Wow I kind of wanted to fall a doll why did you want a doll well I could talk to it show things take care of it and hug it I just want it all I understand but my dad is all for girls the guys call me a [ __ ] creep but you still want it off all right it's been a long day it's time for you to go to sleep did I get man oh and happy birthday [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] why dan why did you buy William withdrawn I don't get it dolls are for girls not for boys are you son yeah sure they are Raggedy Andy do you remember a Raggedy Andy mark Raggedy Andy yeah I remember ray any anything you must have been just about Williams age you've tracked that $4 round with you wherever you went all in the time that he got left behind when we went up to the cabin do you remember that yeah very Glee you cried yourself to sleep and I slipped out in the middle of the night and drove the 50 miles home to get him 50 miles do you do I don't know you did that oh I I made up some story about having found him in a suitcase oh but your mother knew she gave me a hug nearly broke my ribs I never saw a happier little boy than you when you found him in your bed the next morning dad that was different Raggedy Andy wasn't a real doll oh it was real - you never found like a girl's doll but the feelings are the same mark is it any different for William to express his emotions to a Raggedy Andy a teddy bear or a doll son kids are born with a lot of love inside them look at William little boys have just as much love inside them as little girls and it's the most natural thing in the world to let that love out but if you get the idea that well if there's something wrong with showing affection where you stop doing it after a while you forget how maybe you even forget how to feel it oh I don't know dad that's pretty heavy well maybe but you haven't forgotten in fact you're pretty good at showing affection I've watched you with William and I know how you are with me mark it seems to me that it's just as important for a man to know how to show affection as it is for him to nor has stand up for himself a father can teach you some nice things at little boys grow up to be fathers someday William is gonna have children of his own his children your grandchildren mark are going to be very lucky because William has a doll [Music] [Music] [Music] oh he's out working in the yard Hey yeah okay son but don't think once you long because grants gonna be leaving a little bit okay [Music] just what this Steven [Music] how many times I have one day somebody will special to share his time with me olden when I sleep at night he'll keep me company I'll tell him all my secrets and he'll tell here's to me when morning comes you wake me up we start our day again we'll share our time together my special little friend you so I could reduce this down to a member of the greatest generation chastising a member of the boomer generation about compassion but I'm not gonna do it so it's it's a great uh it's a great film you know it's definitely got a little hippie dippie ish feel to it with music especially but that's it's it's pretty sweet my parents were very compassionate people and I'm sure that if I had wanted a doll I probably had some sort of I didn't have a baby doll but I'm sure I had some sort of doll at some point and then transitioned into the big big GI Joe and micronauts and and one or two Star Wars figures really I didn't was I was born to Micronauts than Star Wars figures but seen those little football helmets man that that does kind of bring me back I did not collect those I was not really into sports I was pretty much really an a/v geek was into technology and stuff like that so the it wasn't the football homeless but I remember those showing up on our school bus like a bunch of kids had those but the big thing that they were into were the pencils that had football teams on them and I don't know chime in on the on the comments there was all sorts of transcripts with behavior taking place on the school bus and I wrote a school bus from kindergarten up through my junior year I think yeah I mean I so I was on there the whole time so anyways there was this thing they were that all the dudes that sat in the back would buy these pencils that had all their had the football teams on them and then they would like do these competitions where one person would hold a pencil the other person would try to snap it and break it with their pencil and so that was their way of having a and then to kind of go back and forth one person would try it the other person would try it and that was their kind of version of some sort of football game but with pencils and at some point there was these little tiny like trucks like they look like big rigs but there were small battery-operated trucks and they would link them together with with paper clips and have these pulling events like a tractor pull man school class culture I have to sit down and maybe find somebody who was on the school bus with me and see if we could write down all the things that happened because it was very much glimpse on what was happening in the 70s and 80s with dudes I would just sit and read books I would read like you know HG Wells and things like that but yeah so anyways I digress that but those football helmets yeah they definitely brought back like oh yeah I remember those alright so this film is for salesmen and enjoy the stage is yours this is backstage of one of the greatest shows on earth retail selling out front an expectant audience awaits the curtain and these consumer products of every description which have been assembled from all parts of the world to be sold to your customers or without you the salesperson the show couldn't go on without you your store would be just a storehouse and thus you are the last and most important link in our productive system and since you are so important the way you do your job is even more important unless you do it well these dresses the shirts these sheets and pillowcases will never leave the stockroom and doing it well can mean for you more sales to customers who will come back again and again selling is not only an art but a science as well it has its scientific fundamentals its axioms which govern it but like art the job of selling must be done with feeling there are four basic steps to making a sale the first one is the approach your approach to the customer should be prompt and pleasant your greeting may be either personal refer to some item of merchandise the second step is the determination of the customers needs listen attentively ask courteous leading questions the third step is the presentation of the merchandise know your product show a selection of items but not too many at any one time tell the customer about your merchandise the fourth step close the sale narrow the selection by removing the items the customer definitely doesn't want suggest related merchandise or larger quantities or specially priced items close the sale with reassurance and ask the customer to come again treat every customer as if you were a guest in your home because he is an invited guest in your store these are the steps that you must take in every successful sale then wait a minute let's see how they work in actual practice how they can spell the difference between a sale and no sale [Music] here's a young man in a hurry let's see how these four basic steps can be used to sell him good afternoon sir hello let me see some of your shirts dress shirts why Quinn sir yes why what size Oh fifteen and a half 33 a button-down collar here are two shirts I think you might like I'd like to suggest particularly the swatch and wear shirt it's 100% cotton and one of our nicest shirts I don't know I've never bought one of these before I've seen the advertisements but do they really do what the ads claim I've tested this one myself it really needs only a little ironing if any I've got on one of these today see it still works is needed - did this morning this is another advantage - cotton washing where in addition to only a little ironing needed this shirt stays fresher longer of course if you think you'd prefer a regular shirt this one is certainly a good buy and we have other color styles in both the regular and wash and wear no I like this color yes this style is a good one for you I really think you'll be quite satisfied with this wash and wear model and because it's all cotton you'll find it comfortable to wear all right I'll take one may I point out sir that this week these shirts are especially priced you can save money if you buy a box of 3 most of my customers prefer to buy several shirts at the time anyway all right I'll take a box of them have you seen these ties which we advertised in this morning's paper they're an exceptional value now I think they'll be all hey well sir I know you're going to be pleased with these shirts is this a charge or cash I'll pay for them this salesman has successfully and efficiently completed his sale he has created for himself in his store another satisfied customer and did you notice how he followed the four basic steps in making the sale let's go back for a moment and see good afternoon sir his approach was prompt and pleasant he recognized his customer immediately with a courteous greeting let me see some of your dress shirts - sir yes white what size Oh fifteen and a half 33 button-down collar he listened attentively as the customer explained when he was looking for he has sensible courteous questions very well here are two shirts I think you might like I'd like to suggest particularly this wash-and-wear shirt it's 100% cotton and one of our nicest shirts I don't know I've never bought one of these before I've seen the advertisements but do they really do what they claim they do I've tested this one myself it really needs only a little ironing if any I've got on one of these today see it looks as neat as it did this morning this is another thing about cotton wash and wear in addition to needing only a little ironing this shirt stays fresher longer of course if you'd prefer a regular shirt this one is certainly a good buy and we have other color styles in both the regular and wash and wear shirts no I like that collar he's shown a selection but not too many items at a time he told his customer about the merchandise and he helped narrow the selection by removing the unwanted items black white answer that this week these shirts are specially priced you can save money if you buy a box of three most of my customers prefer to buy several shirts at a time anyway all right let me have a box of them have you seen these ties which we advertise in this morning's paper they're an exceptional value no I think that'll be all very well sir I know you're going to be pleased with the shirt he suggested to the customer larger quantities and he closed the sale with reassurance above all he seems sincerely interested in pleasing his this one is perfect I think it's very becoming to you I know you'll enjoy wearing it open if you have a moment why don't you stop by a jewelry department they have a wonderful selection down there what did I tell you whatever point you choose to stress however you choose to say them the basic principles remain the same in any department I'll show you what I mean let's go into the children's wear Department perhaps these do no I want something more practical now what size was it that you wanted well I'm not sure what size he wears are six or eight give me an eight if I find something I like and if it doesn't fit him well I can bring it back well I'm sure we have something in your life looks like this customer is going to be a little hard to please no no these won't do it all don't you have anything else perhaps one of these is more what you have in mind they're very good quality and they're made of cotton as I'm sure you know nothing wears as well as cotton well these are more what I had in mind oh but they're much more than I want to pay yes they are a little more expensive but as you can see the styling of these pants is excellent extra attention has been given to detail notice the new style waistband and pocket well I don't want to pay that much for little boys pants well let's look at some more now these pants are very fine quality and they're made of a cotton fabric treated for wash-and-wear means they're dining they're not bad but how do they behave in an automatic washer and dryer these wash and wear things need such special attention this particular cotton can be laundered just as your other car a laundered see this one needs no special setting the fabric will resist wrinkling to the adorable practical and attractive yes that's true but these actually off on my nephew I better let my sister come in and see them first perhaps we'll be in later certainly if your ask for me in this bond I'll be happy to show these to your sister and if you like I can show you some of our new coordinated shirts to go along with them thank you thank you very much miss Baum yes a little patience and knowing your merchandise usually pays off I think she'll make a sale next time when this customer returns because she seemed interested in pleasing her and it's my guess she'll sell her one of those shirts too excuse me could you tell me where the fabrics department is please certainly that department is on the third floor in front of this door thank you let's go to the fabric department ourselves Inez drop on another sale this is one of our newest fabric patterns and I think an extremely attractive one are you looking for fabric for a dress yes I am and I think I'd like a print that's a good start our approach was prompt and pleasant and she made reference to the merchandise in her greeting is this a dress for yourself yes it is have you picked your dress pattern yet yes I already have I have it here in my purse oh this will be lovely and this fabric will be very nice for it she is asking courteous leading questions to better determine her customers needs now I have another lovely cotton trees very nice I think this one is a little heavier in weight both are all cotton and that die they'll hold their color beautifully and their pre trunk guaranteed not to shrink more than 2% they're both very nice I like this one very much she shows a selection but not too many items to confuse the customer and she knows what she's selling now let me show you another fine cotton now this one cost a little more but it's really beautiful I always recommend the cotton when it's suitable because since you so I know that you'll agree cotton is so easy to work with you never have trouble with puckering or fraying scene why is this one more expensive they all look just about the same to me now if you'll look closely at the two you will notice that this one has many more threads per square inch as you can feel it gives it a much softer hand and it will wear very well both of these are good values and it's less expensive one is really a beautiful material at this price but if you want something a little special really all right I'll take this one fine I think three and a half yards will be enough for your pattern do you have your thread button well I do need a zipper and some thread certainly I know you're going to be pleased with this fabrics she traded up her customer by pointing out the extra quality she could have for a little bit more money she suggested related merchandise such as threads buttons and zippers and she closed her sale by reassuring her customer this is how it's done if you follow these few simple rules these four basic steps you'll make a sale almost every time and if you're selling cotton items Cotton's beauty its durability its comfort its ease of care will help you ring up that sale to the stage is yours when you return to the selling floor why not give it a try [Music] you so it was really just an ad for promoting cotton it kind of gave you a sense on how to do close a sale but it's just about cotton and I like the comments that it kept getting darker and redder like there was a descent into hell into the inferno that is retail sales oh yes I love love films like that meant for a very specific niche sales films and I have quite a few that deal with how to deal with customers in the retail setting and so I'll be showing some more of those as we go along thanks for tuning in on this Monday March the 4 or se large move may the 4th again thank you so much for tuning in and let me sort of things that your eyeballs that you may or may not have seen join me tomorrow 1 o'clock if you like what you saw and go to AV geeks comm and you can watch other things you can watch
