so [Music] we won thank you so much um and i would say we won because you helped pick the songs you were there voting um you did the work uh and so sound footage festival you didn't know what hit them you know i would say kind of post-game that super duper pooper was very strong and bank of ireland of new york was a very strong song springer mountain chicken no no and also the eyes have it no no um i think there was uh indication that joe from found footage festival is a good salesman he's able to ply people into voting for songs that aren't that great uh that are actually a little on the annoying side um thanks to jim stringer for uh being the judge of course we kind of knew he might not be impartial but we also knew that shake hands with danger is a very strong song and uh so much so that some of you suggested that we um retire it retire its number if we're using sports metaphors and uh yeah i just wanted to compete once because i knew how strong it was so um we'll do this again next year and um uh shake hands with danger uh we'll be in the hall of fame but i got to hold on to my beloved um clown thanksgiving painting and i got to well that's not it what is that oh yeah um i also received that's a clicking uh this i will be receiving this painting which is a uh from a cable access show called the club which i um gave copy to the found footage festival and uh yeah so congratulations we won now let's uh speaking of singing here's a real talking singing action movie about nutrition then we got this fantastic idea we'd make our own film and show what we learned and what it means to us real to movie about nutrition [Music] which scenes we made showing it's fun to do things when you great our cameraman freddy really outdid himself his photography makes hiking look beautiful and easy uh backpacking that's what i like to do boy makes me feel good nothing but earth and sky around yeah but you have to be in good shape sure [Music] that's energy that's beautiful to me that's fun your mind says hey body make that slide and your body says okay watch this brain and zap you make that slide it's fun yeah it's good to know your body's ready ready yeah it's a good feeling being ready that's why people stay in shape right to be ready hey there's mike whack it mike now go mike run what's wrong with him maybe he's letting the ball beat him to tell us something easy out oh mike no energy [Music] sometimes i like to run just run i'm walking and all of a sudden my body just wants to run it really makes me feel alive soccer i love fast game here comes mike no coordination do you like skiing i never tried it i think i'd be scared i think i'd be well i'd fall a lot here's my sport it's good exercise too to me it's just fun water i like i even like to take baths with you rubber ducky who's that oh that's debbie she's very shy she's self-conscious about her skin pimples huh it's some yeah and her hair just sits there she says pretty dull her posture is bad too and you know the more self-conscious she gets the worse her posture gets and the worse her posture gets the more self-conscious she gets yeah too bad she's a good diver but i guess she's too self-conscious to go up there i bet she'd do it if she were alone look at that now she's alone ah food we sure got hungry making these scenes hey there's mike again there's debbie too do they know each other no but i think they're going to meet she needs a napkin he needs the ketchup but she's too shy to ask and he's too tired to get the ketchup so i guess they won't meet after all is that all he's eating that's probably why he's so tired well it's up to him what he wants to eat look at debbie's lunch same problem maybe that's what they like for lunch yeah well it's not just their lunches that are keeping them down there are other things too take mike for instance he grabs a sweet roll for breakfast doesn't eat much for lunch or dinner then late at night he really snacks up pop and candy and other stuff so and debbie is up every night with the late movie she can never go to bed without knowing how it ends and if she keeps piling those chips in 11 calories per chip you know what they'll call her here comes big but if that's the way they want to live let them yeah maybe mike wants to be tired all the time maybe debbie doesn't care about the way she looks or maybe they just don't know any better see nobody's telling them how to live or what to eat or when to sleep it's all up to them and that's fine but at least they should have all the facts right then they can make their own choices yeah they should have all the facts hey mike listen mike you too debbie we think you should hear a few facts do you know what a balanced diet means stay awake mike the food you eat becomes you different foods have different jobs to do in your body she sure smiles a lot the body needs a variety of foods every day little of this little of that grow food it needs the nutrients the food gives the what nutrients vitamins minerals proteins carbohydrates things that keep the body growing and going and feeling great you can't get all you need from just one or two kinds of food right you have to balance these foods ah she's too much because you get something valuable from each kind [Music] foods for muscles and growth you should have at least two servings of meat and similar foods every day foods like this that's what i like and that's what i like some people don't call fish meat but it is because of what it does inside your body and look beans peanuts and peanut butter sunflower seeds all kinds of seeds and nuts lima beans or butter beans split peas as in soup these all have some of the same nutrients as fish and meat such as protein for one what's protein that's protein there building up muscles and other tissue helping the old body to repair itself and grow now it's my turn oops we started a little too soon you need bread and cereal for energy that's this stuff breads breakfast cereals food made from grains they have the carbohydrates that have the calories that the body needs energy is really what i'm talking about wow look at that energy but remember one kind of food can't be a whole meal you need a variety that works together in your body debbie you got it so far mike dairy products for teeth and bones ah milk milk is so quiet and friendly oh come on and it gives you calcium which gives you strong bones and teeth and a better smile it also has vitamins and a lot of other healthful stuff you should drink about four glasses a day but you can substitute other dairy products for two of these glasses like cheese and ice cream for one or a milkshake okay where's the card very clever i bet you reversed the film fruits and vegetables are body regulators there are a lot of different vegetables to pick from here carrots cabbage lettuce and spinach or maybe your favorite is squash and mustard greens then there's broccoli kohlrabi and artichokes maybe some things you haven't tried vegetables supply minerals and vitamins a and c protective vitamins that help keep our vision good and our bodies well and strong these fruits are body regulators too helping us stay healthy try some mangoes papayas rhubarb some new stuff once in a while and look at all the citrus fruits oranges grapefruits lemons limes and tangerines or mandarins citrus is one of the best sources of vitamin c what's vitamin c this is vitamin c healthy tissue in the tendons and blood vessels you can't have good teeth and gums without vitamin c the old time sailors found that out ever heard of scurvy yuck that's the disease they got when they went out to sea for months and months without citrus fruits what a scurvy crew and look vitamin c is there in your bones and teeth too the most fragile part of the bone is at the joint here the growth plate and that's where we need the big c for growth and strength are you watching mike and debbie these people are in shape by choice and it's your choice too yeah it's up to you what you pick out for a lunch or snack or how much sleep and exercise you get but i think it's a good idea to listen to what your body is telling you what's it telling you that it wants to be ready ready to jump and run and ride a bike and dance and take a test and and to do whatever it has to do and to be proud of how it looks and feel what do you mean take a test the brain's part of the body too the way you eat sleep and exercise affects the way you think i never thought about it sure being able to study to concentrate on a good book to make sense and think fast that's being ready too now mike that doesn't mean you have to give up eating just eat them as a part of a balanced meal some people say they don't like vegetables bet they would if they tried some new ways to prepare them and there's a lot of stuff like this you can grab for a snack that isn't just sugar and filler try fresh vegetables and fruits and great drinks you can make your own like berry frost fresh lemonade banana orange flip energy nog where are mike and debbie they're in line deciding what they're going to eat it's your choice mike think about it the chips will taste good give you 115 calories but not a lot of other things that your body really needs the orange will taste good and give you 65 calories those aren't just words and symbols it all translates into the things your body needs wow look at the vitamin c in the orange enough for the whole day [Music] debbie it's up to you remember that you can afford more calories if you're going to be very active but calories you don't use are stored as fat and think about those nutrients you need in your case debbie you could reduce the number of calories i guess you might ask yourself like when you're getting your lunch or a snack what's this food going to give me energy and good health or extra weight and bad skin and the big yawns i wonder if mike and debbie have changed it all since they got the facts about nutrition hey super people isn't that going a little far to make a point i'd say mike looks better a definite improvement yeah he's awake look at debbie she's more confident now and it shows they made a few changes in their food sleep exercise their own choices nobody can really make them for you hey now look look isn't that great he's borrowing her ketchup she's asking him for a napkin isn't that wonderful what do you think this is a soap opera this is our film about nutrition sun comes up the day has begun we've got a good start to a day full of fun and just one thing that most of us know it's important to eat right if we want to go to have a fun fun day you get puts a smile on your face and it keeps your way ahead of the race get with it now wake up and shine a healthy body means a good good time so have a fun-filled day la la la la la la la just la thing that most of us know it's important to eat right if we want to go to have a fun fun day you gotta choose your food the right right way it puts a smile on your face and it keeps you way ahead of the race and get with it now wake up and shine a healthy body means a good good time so have a fun-filled day la la um yeah i was like where's the singing at i'm waiting um we're just singing there's a lot of talking uh this is one of those films i got that other one uh which is uh girls are better than ever which is also kind of that same type of vibe where it's like teens are talking about whatever um and um you know there's drug films like that there's some other films on it like that too where it's like i'm your peer and i'm talking to you uh i'm giving you some real talk about whatever the subject matter is um so you listen to me uh pretty great and i think that was uh sun cast sun kissed helped uh promote that i i need to look at my notes for that um anyways uh wow i still haven't changed the date yet but uh hey buy some coffee we like coffee that's a way to support us we were up late last night celebrating not really but uh coffee is always great um also hit like subscribe ring the notification bell uh comment as always and i um so i tried to read your comments last night but the because of some rap music at the beginning of the found footage festival uh show the kind of the pre-show it got flagged for copyright so they trimmed it so it's live now but all the comments are gone so but um i do appreciate i did see some lots of familiar names and so i appreciate you guys being there and commenting um so uh this next film is in the vein of shake hands with danger which is a um you know what one last night um in that it's dealing with heavy equipment but there's no song but um you know if you like some giant equipment that's painted yellow here it is [Music] technology has progressed more during the first seven decades of the 20th century than it has at any other previous period of recorded human history [Music] progress in haulage transportation systems of surface mines and mills has also been rapid during the same period but often in our drive for better bigger and faster things there are potential hazards that come with the increase in size complexity and speed of the newer more modern mining machines [Music] [Applause] [Music] although one of the biggest causes of haulage fatalities is when a vehicle is driven at excessive speed from one work area to another there are other serious hazards involved in truck college that must be considered one problem often encountered is when backing up during dumping operations the accident usually occurs when the truck operator over travels or backs his vehicle over the edge of the bank this often happens because the bank is loose and unstable because there is no berm or inadequate burn or because there is no truck spotter to signal the driver when he is close enough to the edge [Music] another accident which was caused at least in part by a visibility problem recently occurred at a sand and gravel operation where large bottom dump tractor trailer trucks were used to dump into a grizzly in this case there was a dump man there to help spot the truck over the grizzly for some reason he walked out of sight of the driver and behind the truck not realizing that the dump man was behind him the driver backed up [Music] the accident was caused by the driver and dumped man not maintaining visual contact the truck did not have an automatic backup alarm system nor did it have a rear view mirror on the right side visibility is a safety problem for the truck operator created largely because of the trend to use increasingly larger haulage trucks in today's mining operations in most instances as the trucks have become larger the truck driver's visibility has been affected adversely one specific problem area is that of personnel on foot and service vehicles operating around big trucks a person and even a pickup truck can be lost or not seen in blind spots created by the huge size and by the design of most trucks presently in [Music] operation [Music] safety rules for drivers of smaller vehicles should be established and the vehicles marked for easier visibility personnel such as dump men should be required to wear high visibility vests especially at night to improve the truck driver's vision in the blind areas large quarter sphere bus type and convex mirrors can be installed to help minimize the visibility hazards the best mirrors and mirror positioning possible should be provided [Music] backup alarms are another effective means of preventing backing accidents all moving equipment should have automatic backup alarms that sound off whenever the vehicle is operated in reverse and are audible above the surrounding noise level these alarms serve as a warning and help the operator regulate other vehicle movements around his machine to further increase the safety of the trucks and other mobile equipment in the mining area a definite traffic pattern or traffic flow procedure must be established operators must know the traffic rules and obey them and they must operate their vehicles with caution at all times [Music] along with being cautious a truck operator should be courteous a loaded machine cannot be maneuvered as easily as an empty one for this reason a loaded truck generally has the right-of-way failure to yield the right-of-way has resulted in some serious accidents in our open pit mining [Music] industry in one such incident a driver of a 150 ton truck was returning to the power shovel for another load the route for empty trucks returning from the waste dump intersected the main haulage road not far from the dump meanwhile another truck loaded with waste material was approaching the waste dump area via the main haulage road as they both approached the intersection the driver of the loaded truck assumed the empty truck would stop the empty vehicle was proceeding to the intersection at a slow rate of speed but to help truck operators to be more aware and keep alert all hall roads should be posted with the permissible speed limits these speed limits should be obeyed at all times but it must also be remembered that road conditions can govern speed ice snow and rain can set speed limits of their own therefore an operator must not only read the speed limits but he must also think and use common sense his personal good judgment has a lot to do with his staying healthy and alive lack of good judgment combined with disobedience of safety rules goes a long way towards setting up an accident a truck driver was approaching on a downgrade when he was hailed by a fellow worker he stopped his truck and left it without observing proper parking procedures as far as i know they are i checked them yesterday when the unattended truck began to roll forward [Music] he tried to catch it [Music] with disastrous results to prevent this kind of accident personnel should observe proper parking procedures before leaving the cab when parking on a grade the wheels should be turned into a berm or bank the transmission put into low gear or park parking brakes set and the engine stop when available wheel chocks should be placed [Music] a hall truck in an emergency situation may be backed into a high berm or bank and all other parking procedures observed the direct cause of most truck college accidents is the operators losing control of the vehicle but contributing factors also play a big part mechanical failure such as defective brakes is a hazard that sometimes contributes to haulage vehicle accidents hazards caused by mechanical failure can be overcome by a good preventive maintenance program particular attention should be given to the brake systems they should be checked and serviced regularly by the maintenance department after repairs the vehicle should be road tested before being put back into use when descending grades the operator should work the brakes as conservatively as possible to maintain good air pressure for emergencies and should keep in the low range road surfaces should be graded and kept free of debris to assure safe hauling locations in which trucks are required to operate on grades are particularly hazardous near excavations ramp edges or drop-offs there should be guards barricades or berms to minimize the possibility of an uncontrolled machine running off the side although it is preferable to have them higher berms must be at least as high as the mid axle of the largest vehicle using the roadway and they should be properly maintained at all times [Music] the machine the holley's truck no matter how powerful it may be or how useful it can prove itself on the job is just a large configuration of metal and rubber without the guiding hands feet and mind of the operator [Music] an operator must be capable of giving the big trucks his total concentration he must be alert and think of what he is doing at all times he must be constantly aware of what is going on ahead behind and on each side of the machine and he must drive defensively be prepared to act quickly if an emergency arises the operator of today's haulage trucks has a great responsibility besides being a skillful driver he must be knowledgeable in safety rules and practice [Music] here are some of the more common haulage safety factors he must remember and practice when following another vehicle keep a safe distance allowing enough space to stop in case of an emergency pass only in areas of adequate clearance and visibility [Music] be cautious and be courteous remember that a loaded machine generally has the right of way do not coast steep grades require extra precautions stay in gear and use the brakes or decelerator to slow down or stop never freewheel engine rpm should be maintained to give the control needed slow down on rough terrain besides possible back or kidney injury you can be lifted off the seat and lose control of the machine use caution when approaching railroad crossings the noise level of your truck may obscure the sounds of oncoming rail traffic use the seat belt and make certain it is fastened snugly observe correct parking procedures when the vehicle is to be left unattended special parking trenches may be used or wheel chocks placed generally it is safer for the driver to be in the truck while it is being loaded however when large boulders are being loaded it is better to be out of the truck in a safe distance away it is possible that a mishandled shovel load may hit the truck and crush the [Music] driver do not mount or dismount from a moving truck of any kind no matter how slowly it may be going [Music] as a truck operator you must learn the safe correct way of doing a job the way that will enable you to prevent accidents while operating your machine 175 to 180 your oil freezer about from 45 to 60. many safeguards and safety features are being engineered into the design of modern trucks by the manufacturers but while such efforts are underway to make these haulage vehicles more mechanically and structurally safe accident prevention through educational and instructional means must the necessity for everyone to become safety-minded cannot be over-emphasized therefore it becomes the responsibility of everyone involved in mining where trucks and other haulage equipment are in use workers and management alike to do their part to truly keep safety on the move [Music] thanks to meza for that um i got a bunch of mesa films of dealing with mining um both underground and in giant pit mines like that so but uh there was some great music in that but not a song not like a catchy song and uh this was requested so many times last night but we just didn't have the the time to put it in um my wife katrina mentioned that she paid for someone to write a cover of the song and you guys were all like just play it play it play it well we didn't have time i wanted more time for jim stringer um to talk and sing and stuff uh so we i was like all right well we'll play the cover some other time and i hope to have him on my show at some point uh and we'll do a retrospective uh jim's stuff uh since he's such a fun guy has a lot of great stories but anyways here it is i can check that gear in a minute so don't touch anything okay [Music] hey get down from there [Music] now what if it bumped that control by accident you'd be mincemeat by now what have i told you you don't work on equipment when the engine's running well i told them not to touch anything all right i guess i wasn't thinking you weren't thinking you mean you'll work on engines and machinery and not thinking your own personal safety here shake hands with danger shake hands with danger [Music] i was young and feisty never did things by the book just let me get my tool box and i'll take myself a look i climbed up on a dozer with my mechanics pride said you can keep it running friend while i poke around inside shake hands with danger meet a guy you want to know i used to laugh at safety now they call me three finger joe although i learned a lesson i forgot it soon enough the knicks and burns and scratches showed the young ones i was tough till another morning i was grinding on some steel my other hand got careless and fed my skin into the wheel shake hands with danger step right up and say hello grinding wheels and metal are what made me three finger joe [Music] i've seen mechanics burning and i've seen them take a fall just to save themselves a minute i've seen them lose it all i've watched them caught in trouble seen them take a chance and lose they get careless for a moment and spend a lifetime with the blues [Applause] me [Music] shake hands [Music] [Music] walk around inside [Music] she move around inside [Music] shake hands with danger and some friends i used to know compared to them i'm lucky to be just three finger joes nice yeah um so jim has jim stringer has not heard this cover uh i was gonna forward it to him but uh we we both got busy with our lives uh and i didn't want to reveal it to him live like i didn't feel like that was appropriate um so uh but he will i'll send it to him um next week and um so yeah anyways thanks everybody for uh requesting that and liking it and uh it's uh i know it was a favorite that people wanted to vote on that song versus the real shake hands with danger but um yeah we did good all right um we haven't watched any black and white really we watched that that first silent film uh that industrial worker film which had some of the most awesome animated infographics ever i love looking at a textbook from that time period from the 30s and seeing all those amazing kind of iso uh like little drawings and and to have them animated oh so good anyway so here's a bicycle safety uh centron made this film and jim stringer worked for centron although he did not work on this [Music] what can compare with the thrill of a brand new bike those long days of wishing and waiting are finally over and the proud new owner can look forward to enjoying his bike in many ways for bicycling is a healthy active sport enjoyed by almost everyone not only does it provide vigorous outdoor exercise but it means quick easy transportation to and from school it's a nice fast way of getting from one place to another and it may even be a means of earning money you're taking a lot of responsibility in owning and riding a bicycle for you are now an operator of a wheeled vehicle you are the automobile driver of tomorrow and good safe bicycle riders often turn out to be the best drivers no good pilot would think of flying an airplane that was not in perfect condition he knows that his very life depends upon his plane so he inspects it carefully before flying so you should check your vehicle your bike to see that everything is in good condition if you don't know how to check your bike get a bike mechanic to help you check to see that the handlebars grips and pedals are tight adjust the seat so that your knee is slightly bent when the pedal is all the way down be sure that the chain and sprocket are well guarded no check is complete unless spokes are tight every bicycle should have a bell or horn for use as a warning signal if your bicycle is to be ridden at night it should have a headlight which is visible for at least 500 feet and it should have a tail light or at least an approved reflector and finally your bike must have good brakes your life may depend on it several times a day but keeping your bike in top condition is only the beginning cars trucks buses and bicycles all are vehicles all must obey the traffic laws keep to the right side of the road or street that side is for slowly moving vehicles when riding in a group ride in single file at the extreme right of the roadway be sure to keep a safe distance behind the bike ahead of you before riding out of alleys or driveways stop to be sure the way is clear when crossing heavily traveled streets or highways it's better to dismount and walk across with your bike this precaution gives you a much better chance of avoiding the passing cars turning left at a busy intersection is a problem for the bicyclist the best way is to ride across the intersection and stop at the far right corner then as soon as the light changes turn and ride off in the new direction every bicyclist should know the proper hand signals and should use them when turning or stopping be sure you know what the correct signals are in your community and use them at all times before turning left be sure to look behind you this will keep you from turning into the side of a passing automobile signal before you begin to turn then make the turn with both hands on the handlebars even stops require signals while you're on the street carry parcels or books in a basket or luggage carrier you need both hands free for proper operation of your bike never carry anything which obstructs your view of the road your bicycle was made to carry one person to carry more is not only bad for the bike it's downright dangerous never never hit your ride the slightest bump in the pavement could easily throw this boy into the path of an automobile this is illegal in most communities and for good reasons if you want to do tricks like these stay out of the street stunting and racing should be done in vacant lots or protected areas away from pedestrians and traffic too much speed makes your bike harder to control and is especially dangerous when riding down a steep hill when riding at night be sure to wear light-colored clothing so motorists can see you more easily park your bike in a safe proper place standing upright this is better for your bicycle and it keeps people from stumbling over it in the dark a lock on your bicycle is good protection against thieves there's more to safe bicycle riding than just remembering the rules you must be alert this young man is not thinking about what he's doing he's in danger because he's unconscious of what's going on around him learn to be an alert bicycle rider you'll find that it helps you to avoid accidents the bicyclist to weaves all over the road in front of motorists is asking for trouble he confuses the motorist and he acts as though he might be somewhat confused himself if you remember the rules for safe bicycling you'll know what these writers are doing wrong what's wrong with the way this cyclist signals for a left turn do you think the parents of this boy would be proud of the way he's learned to ride his new bike will this girl's mother be happy when she sees her coming home with the groceries if she gets there why is this young man likely to spend some time in the hospital soon this is johnny's dad coming home with the groceries johnny's been trying to get his allowance raised poor johnny if he'd only remembered to put that bike away as a bicycle owner and rider you have a responsibility to care for your bike properly and operate it safely it's your duty to obey the traffic rules to be alert and quick-witted to look out for the other fellow as well as for yourself as a good safe bicyclist you'll be respected by the people of your community for you are proving to your friends and neighbors that bicycling can be both fun and safe [Music] that logo for young american films so great that eagle who has kind of like a little hammer and sickle ish looking crescent in his eye i don't know if that's intentional but it's i'm drawn to it anyways uh i like a good bike safety film um you know it's not as over the top as one got fat or uh some of the other ones like superstars or the day the bicycles disappeared but it's still pretty good it's a good base um to talk about bike safety uh thanks everybody for tuning in today and uh for again for your support last night um i think i saw that the uh the broadcast is actually live again on found footage festival they removed the offensive copyright copyrighted rap songs that immediately uh blocked it and so you get to see if you hadn't the competition and how much fun it was um i hope everybody has a good weekend um i think i have to mow the lawn here at the archive which is uh kind of frustrating but you know that's what you do when you have an archive that has a front lawn um if you like what you saw you can reward us by buying us some coffee coffee is always a delightful thing to stimulate our nervous systems when we are pulling or cataloging a bunch of films um you can also tell the world that you like us by hitting like or subscribe ringing the notification bell um also commenting and sharing what we do is always great i like new eyeballs and last night was great because we got some new eyeballs um so everybody take care have a great rest of your day and weekend and uh as always please rewind and love each other and we will see you next week three eight seven six five four
