so so do do so so so hi everybody um i'm skip alzheimer and welcome to the avgeeks lunchtime streaming show where we just watched some home movies of uh christmas uh over many years um and uh that last bit of footage was kodochrome people often talk about how kodachrome was designed to capture christmas it was you know beautiful colors and and all that and i would say kodachrome is really all about halloween like if you ever see a good halloween reel especially a halloween parade at school where all the kids would be paraded around kind of walk around like the parking lot or the um you know out in the recess yard um that's beautiful footage plus parties adult parties um shot in kodachrome um beautiful beautiful that's that for me is kodakro get very excited about that um anyways today is friday the 13th and we are hoping that the unluckiness that we've had throughout the week um has already we're safe now we don't have to worry about it um not that i'm superstitious but there you go um i'm gonna say that uh towards the end the last thing i'm gonna show um today is going to be something that i'm not going to show on youtube because it has a lot of popular popular music on it and i just don't want to have to deal with it so i'm going to give you links to other places that could potentially you could see it we're still going to do a fairly full show but uh i'm i'm just getting tired of not being able to show something because i think it will be because i think it it's great you know we have great stuff but because it has music on it um it's a big pain so uh in the meantime uh on the telecini behind me uh i have if i do it that nope this way uh it's always reversed um i have a film feelings don't stay mad so don't stay man enjoy [Music] [Music] [Applause] along on the playground okay hello can i help give out balls or something sure come on hey melissa gooney come on now you guys been mad long enough i was real mad at my dad today everybody seems to be getting mad today i got a kite today and my dad wouldn't let me take this school what kind of thing it's a dragon kite come on give me the kite why can't i take it to school i'll take care of it because i told you it's going to get broken if you take it to school i want to take it to school to show the kids no it's going to get all broken up now leave it here why can't i take it to school it's my kite i know it's your kite but you're going to get it all broken before you have the chance to play with it now come on run on the school i wanna take the kite to school if you're gonna be late now i said no now go on to school before you're late well i sat down to tie my shoe my little brother came out of the house hey kevin where's your kite hey pick up that lunch and bring it here bring that lunch here pick up [Music] jump on [Applause] dad passed it on to me i passed it on to melissa melissa passed it on to goonie and gooney gave it to her right i think everyone when they're mad they ought to talk it over with the person they're mad at that's chris checking this ball in chris mulligan you shouldn't have just come up and kicked my lunch i couldn't talk to dad because he just wouldn't listen to me then you should have kicked something else or punched something i punch my pillow when i get mad last week i got mad lou because he won't let me go on the trip because there's too many kids do you know what i did hi what you got there a picture of you really oh boy that's horrible that's supposed to be me yeah yeah you didn't even give me a nose i can fix that oh shoot i remember one time lou got mad at me it was in a regular basketball game [Music] we're a team here what's the matter with you you want to be a champion don't you you know we got the big game next week get the bench [Applause] [Music] as i was sitting on the bench i imagined a big earthquake and just where lou was standing the whole earth open and crunch i don't want to see my dad get crunched but i'm still mad at him have talked to somebody what good would that do well you know talk to somebody like somebody who understands that's what i do i just finished telling you guys hey i got an idea why don't we try acting this out okay we'll need somebody to be kevin somebody to be his father and a friend to listen how about it yeah i'm gonna be the father i'm gonna be the father i'm gonna be the father wait a minute i got an idea kevin why don't you be his father i thought well you get to be you all the time this way you get to be your father how do i look you look weird i want to be cabin hey herc you could be the friend who listens oh okay okay okay now all we need is somebody who can get really mad to play the part of kevin how about gooney sure that's neat goonies always mad you want to be kevin [Music] okay hey hey hey what you doing what are you doing now you're holding on if you want to be kevin you have to have a cat oh hey hey look at me i'm kevin i'm kevin look at me well what do i do now oh do you want to take your kite to school yeah yeah i want to take my kite to school where is my kite dude it looks like a dragon you want to take it to school yeah you can't take it to school because the kids will punch holes in it i won't let them give me it give me it can't have it now go to school give me it it's mine you can't take it to school the kids will pledge hold give me my guide no no no remember he's your dad give me yours you can't take it to school now go to school you'll miss the school bus you'll never let me do anything go to school what do i do now how do you feel awful you feel mad fine herky tell him what happened tell him how you feel get the mat out find him i'm mad are you mad at me no i'm mad at my dad because of the kite oh what happened he wouldn't let me take it to school said it might get broken or something i know how you feel it makes you feel that it wasn't your type yeah it's my kite i want to do what i want with it but he wouldn't let you no he never lets me do anything no no no no that's all he ever says is no that's mean yeah when somebody's mean it makes you mad yeah good herky you're a good listener kevin you think that would have helped you get over your math feelings well i guess but taking the part of my dad now i know why he wouldn't let me take the kite to school well do you think your dad was right no i don't think he was right because it was my kite and i i like him now i'm not mad at him anymore hey well that that's cool yeah hey gooney how did you feel about this did you get your mat out you still feel angry because of the kite yeah no then what are you mad at i'm mad at you me i'm mad at all of you at kevin and herky too hey come on why are you crying gooney because you don't hate me you all make fun of me nobody plays with me nobody lets me in their games or anything spoonie said we're keeping them out of the games do you think that's so it isn't fair it's always my fault whatever happens it's always my fault if it rains it's my fault well it usually is your fault what i mean goody how come the boys don't play with you because they're mean the reason you don't get the play-doh games is because you're always hitting and sucking and wrecking the games that's because you're all against me every one of you they are all against me that's why i don't like you any of you i didn't know you felt like that gooney i mean i really didn't i'm sure glad you told us hey kids the volleyball card is empty you want to go play volleyball okay well come on hurry up hey i want to play too okay come on gooney come on no it'll be just like always he'll start fights and he won't take turns and i'll hit people how about making the agreement hey kids listen up how about making an agreement just for the rest of this afternoon let's include gooney into all the games gooney you agree no hitting or not to start any fights okay finally how about it what do you say okay why should we he's the one that made all the trouble why should we give in well would you have more fun staying mad at goony and keeping goony mad at you will that be much fun come on now get your mad feelings out and forget about them okay come on we'll try it gooney i think i'll say well what do you do to get your mat out that's great gooney man big fan of angry puppets that are like big fan um yeah so that was uh distributed by a bfa um definitely straight up 70s film um love films like that though uh and yeah somebody said what was it dollar tree muppets [Laughter] very nice um thank you uh burro al for the coffee that's much appreciated um i'm learning how to use a new scanner and so i have to actually read a manual which is not great it takes me forever um but looking at all this and thinking about all this has me wondering about light let's learn about light [Music] [Music] do you ever wonder about light where does light come from wherever we go we can see light [Music] but we can't see things without light ready or not here i come elizabeth and her friends are playing a game of hide and seek if light does come into elizabeth's eyes then she can see can she find where they're hiding will elizabeth be able to see in the dark why not there isn't enough light a flashlight is a source of light a source of light helps us see things [Music] can you think of other sources of light [Music] [Music] you can see light because it travels from a light source to your eyes [Music] you can see other things too things that are not sources of light a ladder is not a source of light neither is a car door you can see these objects because of the way light behaves one thing light does is bounce off objects it can bounce off a mirror a shiny piece of metal a safety reflector light helps us see things did you see what elizabeth saw [Music] now christopher is it and he'll learn that sometimes things can block the light why can't christopher see anthony behind the tool shed because the tool shed blocks the light it stops light from traveling to his eyes some things block light anthony knows a good place to hide he knows you can't see through the door it stops the light [Music] can christopher see through the tree but look what does he see there's nothing in the way there to stop the light [Music] twitter anthony needs a new place to hide and he'll learn that some things block light and some things don't the wall blocks light but that window doesn't some things let light through so you can see anthony through the glass can you see him through the window shade but the shade does let some of the light through look someone's outside how can you tell there's a shadow anthony knows who it is do you you can tell by the shadow shape it's erica the light shines on the shade but erica blocks some of the light so her shadow falls behind her on the shade keep looking for shadows a shadow takes its shape from whatever's blocking the light does erica notice something strange about the tree's shadow you bet she does elizabeth is it again [Music] everybody's been it except where's anthony we knew where you were well i gotta go me too bye time to go home you tell what's happening by the shape of a shadow [Music] what's that what's happening wherever things block the light you can see a shadow [Music] look at elizabeth's hand do you see the shadow why is the shadow changing what's happening the light is changing the shadow the sun is playing hide and seek the cloud has moved in front of the sun but the sun is still there so what happens to the shadow now the sun comes out from hiding and the light gets brighter now what happens to the shadow [Music] day is the time when there's lots of light light to help people see things as the sun sets there is less light [Music] day passes into night it gets dark and we need to turn on the light to see things so what have we learned about light it travels from a light source into your eyes some things block out light you can't see through them if something blocks out light it can make a shadow some things let some light through so elizabeth can see a shadow on the curtain some things let all the light through so elizabeth can see through the glass to see her mother [Music] how does light help us see [Music] look around you look at what light does [Music] can you look for light around you [Music] what do you see [Music] six snakes are the best known reptiles this one is a pilot black snake it is harmless all snakes have long narrow bodies adult black snakes may be from four to six feet long snakes are said to be cold blooded because their bodies do not maintain a constant internal temperature as your body does their body warmth is controlled by the temperature of their surroundings in temperate zones where the air may often be cooler than the temperature needed to keep it active a snake will spend a lot of time sunning itself do you see the darting tongue it is an aid in smelling although the snake has nostrils it depends on its slender and deeply forked tongue to pick odors from the air and carry them to a sense organ for smell in the roof of the mouth through a special opening in the lips the snake can flick its tongue in and out without opening its mouth a snake's eyes are always open because there are no eyelids to blink or close instead the eye is protected by a transparent covering that is part of the snake's skin and is shed with the skin the covering changes color before shedding there are no ears or ear drums on a snake but they do sense vibrations from the ground through their bodies snakes move with an easy gliding motion no matter whether they travel on land swim in water or climb trees on the underside of the snake's body are broad plate like scales that help it move each plate is connected to a pair of ribs by muscle tissue a snake moves by bracing these plates against the slightest roughness while the muscles of its body push it along on smooth surfaces such as glass there is nothing for the plates to push against so movement is difficult the upper surface of the snake's body here mirrored in the glass is covered with a waterproof skin of smaller overlapping scales those that cover the head are as revealing as fingerprints their arrangement is so regular as to be of value in identifying snakes as a snake grows the outer layer of scales does not grow so the snake must shed this old outer skin to give itself more room a snake's colors are very bright when its skin is new snakes shed their skins at least once and usually several times a year the black snake's nest is sometimes located near water where small animals live or come to drink snakes are carnivorous which means that they eat animals rodents such as rats and mice form a large part of their diet snakes strike at moving objects now the mouse is secured then the black snake squeezes its prey to death before eating it snakes that kill by squeezing are called constrictors food is always swallowed whole and head first loosely jointed bones of the jaw which act like elastic hinges permit the snake to swallow food larger than its normal mouth size inside the mouth backward curving teeth pull the food down the throat as the jaws work separately this makes it look like the snake is pulling itself around its food a large meal may keep a snake alive for weeks or months unlike poisonous snakes black snakes have no defense against larger animals except to look and act dangerous [Music] rather than stay and fight it will always move away if it can because a snake cannot live in extremes of heat and cold it avoids getting too warm by taking shelter during the hottest part of the day it will become active again when the air becomes cooler the black snake lays eggs as most snakes do during the summer from 3 to 25 eggs are laid in leaves hollow logs or other places where they'll be exposed to the moist heat of decaying vegetation or to the warmth of the sun the eggs receive no care from the female after being laid if conditions for incubation remain favorable and they are not eaten by predators the eggs will be ready to hatch in six to eight weeks the watery fluid protects the snake from injury and from drying out during the hatching period the egg has a leather-like shell often two or three days are needed for all the eggs in one nest to hatch the young black snake emerging from this one and three quarter inch egg is over a foot long it will be able to care for itself as soon as it is free from the egg though it will take more than a year to change color and about two years to reach adulthood in areas with severe winters snakes must hibernate or lie dormant in a sheltered place to escape the cold abandoned animal burrows are often used and sometimes different kinds of snakes may share a winter home snakes inhabit practically all parts of the world except the polar regions and some ocean islands there are about two thousand kinds of snakes and most of them are harmless the poisonous ones should be avoided non-poisonous snakes should not be killed because they are useful and fill an important role in the balance of nature in turn their population is kept from becoming too numerous by environmental changes or by being hunted down and eaten by other animals in this film you have been presented with a great deal of information about snakes now through your own investigations try to find the answers to these questions what are some environmental factors that control the snake population what snakes are found in the states where you live we got a lot of snakes in north carolina we have um copperheads rattlesnakes um watermark moccasins you know a lot of poisonous snakes uh we do have some ones that are not poisonous though but anyways uh so um yeah so what i'm gonna do is in the comments i'm going to send you a link uh i'm i'm not i'm going to discontinue the youtube stream um and um just because i know
