Hello everybody. I'm Skip Alzheimer. Welcome to the AV Geeks Lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16mimeter films and think better about ourselves uh involving them because we know better. Um, so this last film that I showed was part of this project we're doing where we're scanning a bunch of cornet films and uh some of them don't have soundtracks. Uh, this one was an example of that. So I apologize. Uh, so it was double perfed and you heard the uh that's the PF on the right side going over an optical head and so it makes that sound. So thanks for telling me. I'm sorry I didn't check the comments before. Uh the interesting thing about this film is it was made by Cornet. And so what Encyclopedia brand did they uh show? It was definitely not Encyclopedia Bratannica because Encyclopedia Bratannica was uh one of their competitors. Uh they made their own educational films and so this was Worldbook Encyclopedia that they were showing off. Um it's kind of interesting. I kind of wonder at some point did Coronet actually try to do their own set of encyclopedias um because they were uh basically David Smart who was a publishing uh mogul in Chicago started Cornet Films and had a magazine called Cornet. He also created Esquire and maybe GQ too. But uh yeah, I'd be interested to know. Um anyhow, uh we got so much stuff to watch. We're going to go ahead and watch uh Craftsman in clay. Simple slab methods. Simple slab methods. Enjoy. While materials of the earth from which men can make useful things. Before clay can be used, it must be conditioned by a process called wedging, which eliminates air pockets and blends the clay thoroughly, removing hard lumps. Such irregularities would cause blemishes. To wedge the clay, the lump is cut in half and with the cut sides facing outward, the upper half is thrown down forcibly to expel the air. Cutting and throwing together is repeated 15 or 20 times. Then the clay is kneaded for further blending. The hands push well into the lump and keeping the sides pulled in, reshape the ball. The final test reveals an even consistency throughout. Careful wedging is an important part of good craftsmanship. From this lump of wedged clay, many simple objects such as a candle holder might be made. The potter's imagination suggests a wide variety of possible shapes. He should visualize the finished piece before cutting the clay. Of the many possible shapes, he decides on a tapered candle holder. To make the candle holder, the top of the lump is first cut off. Cutting is done with a fetling knife, a stiff tapered blade made especially for pottery work. The top is smooth before the candle socket is formed. To make the hole, an ordinary candle is used. Two notches are made on the end of the candle to keep the clay from sticking to it. The socket is made larger than the base of the candle to allow for shrinkage of the clay. The sides are accurately spaced with the knife held firmly. The sides are cut at the desired angle. The piece is now set aside to stiffen until leather hard. That is stiff enough to hold its shape, but soft enough to be trimmed easily. This trimming process is called fettling. The process for which the fettling knife was designed. If pottery edges are left sharp, they chip easily. Therefore, they must be rounded. A final sponging removes the knife marks. The finished piece is then allowed to dry slowly. Most slab methods require a rolled out slab. A damp cloth prevents the clay from sticking to the table. The thickness of these guide sticks controls the thickness of the slab. One of the simplest objects to make from a slab is a tile, which requires a thick slab. First, the clay lump is partially flattened with the edge of the hand. Rolling is always started from the center of the clay. The rolling pin rides on the guide sticks, making the slab an even thickness. The slightly dry, wrinkled surface left by the rolling pin must be moistened. This is an elephant ear sponge. Its fine texture is preferred by potters. The final finishing is done with a rubber kidney. After smoothing, the slab is inspected carefully for small air bubbles. These must be pricricked and the air pressed out. To make the slab easier to handle, most of the excess clay is cut off. The palm of the hand supports the slab as it's placed on a pallet covered with paper. The paper prevents the wet clay from sticking to the pallet. The slab is sponged and smoothed again before the final cutting. An accurate pattern of stiff cardboard is the cutting guide. The tile is turned so that each cut is made with the same arm movement. To avoid pulling the last corner out of shape, a downward pressure should be used at the end of the cut. The tile is now ready to dry. Slow drying helps to prevent warping. When leather hard, the tile, like the candle holder, will be fettled and sponged. A thinner slab is used for pieces requiring several parts, such as a low flower container. Rolling a thin slab is made easier by loosening it from the damp cloth before it's rolled to its final thickness. To make the flower container, the shape of the bottom is sketched freely on the slab. This technique of designing directly on clay often improves the harmony of line and proportion. The bottom piece is cut from the clay slab with the pricker. The edges of the bottom are dampened and scored with a comb because rough surfaces make stronger joints. Side pieces are cut from a similar slab of clay and are scored like the bottom. A mixture of clay and water called slip acts as an adhesive in adjoining the two pieces of clay. The scored strip placed in position is worked back and forth gently until the clay takes hold. When attached lightly, the two pieces are knitted together with a modeling tool. The ends of the wooden modeling tool are shaped like small thumbs for detailed work. A second strip is added to complete the piece. The beveled and scored ends of the strips are worked gently together. The thin ends of the strips are overlapped to increase the thickness slightly at the joint. The inside corners are knitted together as were the outside edges. These joints have been thinned by vigorous knitting and must be strengthened by the addition of a thin clay rope. This rope is pressed into the inner corner and smoothed with the larger end of the modeling tool. When completely assembled, the finger and tool marks are removed from the piece with the sponge. The sides are then smoothed with a rubber kidney to ensure precise contours. The finished piece is set aside to stiffen until leather hard. The leather hard piece is ready for fettling. This gives it a craftsmanlike finish and the rounded edges necessary in good pottery. When the edges are being fed, the knife is held near the tip of the blade and the clay is scraped with long even strokes. A cutting motion is seldom used. The center portion of the bottom is scraped down a little to remove the slight bulge which is usually present in flat bottom pieces. The broader surfaces are fettled with a flexible steel scraper. A special scraper is used to finish the inside corners. The standard scraper is kidney shaped. The end of this one has been cut off and the corners rounded for inside fettling. After surface scraped smooth, the piece is spun. Remove all traces of the tool marks. It is now ready to dry slowly. Many pieces of your own design can be made by these three simple methods. After drying, these pieces are finished by glazing and firing in a pottery kill. Imagination in design and master craftsmanship will produce attractive pieces in which you may take pride and pleasure. eating salad. It took me off guard. Sorry. One second. All right. I shoveled a big fork of salad in my mouth just as I saw it go to leader. I'm like, crap. I'm not going to spit it back out. Um, so one of the things that, uh, we love to do here at Age Geeks is show you stuff that you might not have ever seen ever before and kind of give you an insight on something that you thought you knew, but you didn't really know. And so this next film was made by the Department of Defense, and it's a propaganda film about a propaganda film. Uh and uh that is something that the department of defense or the war department or um the war bonds department uh has been doing since at least since World War II uh where they show footage of our enemy at the time and then talk about it and say like well this is our enemy. Uh the interesting thing about this is who is our guide our narrator? This is uh takes place during Vietnam. It's about the Vietkong. And let's see. Can you guess who our narrator is going to be? It it floored me when I saw it. All right, here's Know Your Enemy. I don't think there's dead people in this. I I kind of went through it very quickly, but I apologize if there's something triggering in here. Enjoy. I mean this argument for effort again that you're about to see were produced facilities of Cosban several months ago near the Cambodian border. of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Now, many of the captain cruisery damage are of poor quality, but at least filming to provide a good close-up look the Vietnam would like to see themselves. The first sequence will be taking you behind enemy lines first of the VC in combat. These teams of preparation and action were probably but they do show the Vietkong and prisoners will be taken. The regiment sounds the attack. The attack is against an American armored personnel carrier. Captain during the battle are marched barefoot through the jungle. series of news reel sequences on Vietkong attacks against allied units in South Vietnam with China. The first manufactured equipment. The South Vietnamese forces walk into the ambush and the Vietkong open fire. This next sequence, the Vietkong Company commander plots an allout attack against a small South Vietnamese hamlet. The bugler once again sounds the charge on the settlement. The communists have undergone grueling physical training and they're identified as members of the Civilian Irregular Defense Guard and the 10th Vietnamese Government Army Division. The PWS, as in the earlier sequence, are marched off for interrogation with the battle. It's important to remember that the film you've seen and will see is Vietkong propaganda. Its purpose is to show you one side, the communist side of the conflict in the Republic of Vietnam. At the same time, it does provide a realistic insight into the motives and the methods of the BC. Now, we've seen the enemy in combat. Now, let's look at another side of the communist war effort in South Vietnam. in the area of operations that shows the Vietkong work in the fields of logistics and demolition. Much of the food, weapons, and equipment used by the Vietkong is transported into tactical areas by walking the material across the countryside. Here, bags of rice are carried across a river and into the jungle. Women, many of them half of the communist transportation force. Another of the prime Prisoners are equally thorough in their utilization of captured weapons and equipment. Demolition experts disassemble unexloded bombs and remove their destructive contents. Blacksmiths then use the metal to make grenade casings and gun barrels. In the guerilla warfare that the Vietkong are waging, nothing is wasted. Everything is utilized. Even train that has been derailed is grim witness to the effectiveness of the VC tactics. Sparges placed at the joints of the rails on both sides of the track can tear open gaps that are undetectable at a distance and will almost certainly cause a derailment. Here, with the aid of a model bridge, a Vietkong instructor briefs a communist guerilla before sending him out with the demolition team. The explosive charge is prepared by other members of the guerilla unit. The VC moved through the jungle toward their objective. The communists adapt their ways to the war they must fight. Booby traps are fashioned by hand and planted at night outside the perimeter of US and South Vietnamese camps. Up to now, we've been through the eyes of the communist camera at the battlefront with the Vietkong. In this sequence, now we're going to focus on various propaganda and non-military activities of the enemy. We'll tour War Zone Sea with Chinese communist correspondents, visit a VC printing office, explore an underground hospital, and watch a propaganda lecture by a fourstar North Vietnamese Army general who's the political officer and commanding general of the self-proclaimed South Vietnamese Liberation Army. This third segment of our captured Vietkong news reels opens with banners and signs welcoming communist Chinese writers on their arrival for a tour of cosmin facilities in war zone C. There is the customary exchange of toasts between the guests and their hosts. And as part of the welcoming reception, the representatives of the two communist nations, the communist correspondents visit a printing plant that publishes the Vietkong liberations paper and other propaganda leaflets and literature. They watch the setting of type by a VC craftsman and they see the operation of the primitive press by the printer and his apprentice. the North Vietnamese Army. When these films were made, the general was the political officer and commanding general of the Communist Army in South Vietnam. Here, General Tarn walks among the wounded, talking with them and listening to them. Continuing his tour of the underground facilities, the general commends the hospital staff for its contributions to the Vietkong war effort. General Tan has a final visit and a word with a wounded BC soldier, pledging continued reinforcements and communist support from the north. Now, a meeting of Cosvin officials held to plan the winter spring offensive of 1967 and to bolster troop morale for these campaigns. The featured speaker is the chief of the political section of Cosban, Brigadier General Tron Doe. The general tells the troops that there are 400,000 men in North Vietnam that can be sent south to aid the Vietkong forces. In conclusion, he promises that North Vietnam will never negotiate for peace until it has achieved a measure of victory in combat that can be used as a bargaining power in such negotiations. This then is the challenge posed by the Vietkong and her supporters in South Vietnam. We've seen from their own motion pictures that they're resourceful, disciplined, ruthless, determined, alert to this threat, aware of this danger. South Vietnam and her allies must meet and defeat the enemy challenge. For in this confrontation between communism and freedom, only one can prevail. Which one it will be is simply stated. Why free men fight in the Republic of Vietnam. Well, that print was beat to hell. Uh the beginning of it had water damage. So, what was happening was uh the emulsion got wet and then it kind of pulled away from and stuck to the back of the film. Somebody cleaned it, but they cleaned away that emulsion that was sticking to place it wasn't supposed to be sticking. And so that happened not only in the image but also in where the soundtrack was. And so that's why you got that weird sound. Not the sound, but the h. All right. Um, so I have a film set up for me on this scanner. Uh, globes, their functions in classrooms. Enjoy. as a teacher. You should know how the basic types of globes can help you. For example, there are slated globes which have a surface similar to a chalkboard. You can write and erase on these if you use any good grade of white or colored chalk. Many globes have a surface finish on which you can mark with a grease pencil or China marking pencil. The marks can be wiped off with a cloth. There are globes that show political divisions of the world, [Music] while others show physical aspects of the earth, sometimes in relief or three-dimensional elevations. [Music] Some relief globes have few or no markings so that you can paint elevation patterns and establish boundaries or other reference points to help teach important concepts. The paint can be washed off. [Music] There are also inflatable plastic globes. [Music] These are light and unbreakable, but they can be punctured. This globe designed for science work uses special attachments to indicate the length of day and night, climate, and the direction of the sun's rays. [Music] This is a celestial or star globe. It uses connecting lines to emphasize star groups, while this one connects star groups with zodiac shapes. In using a star globe, always imagine yourself on the inside looking out. This celestial horizon ring contains much information for science and astronomy classes. Earth and star relationships can be learned with this advanced globe which shows the position of the Earth in relation to the sun and the moon. This motorized satellite globe illustrates principles of planet satellite relationships. A three-way switch allows separate movement of either the globe or satellite or both. [Music] The planetarium shows the revolution of the Earth and Venus around the Sun and the Moon around the Earth. [Music] Mathematics classes will benefit from correlated circular graphs and slated spheres. Here, a spherical triangle in trigonometry is more quickly understood through the use of a globe. [Music] Globes have different types of mountings. The cradle mounting allows the globe to be removed for handling. The area being studied can be turned to the top in a natural working position. A cradle stand with horizon rim is useful. This has a scale which includes time units, distance, and degrees of latitude. Some globes have hinged horizon rims which permit part of the blade to move. This facilitates measurement of a great circle route. Other globes have semi-fixed mountings which permit movement in some but not in all directions. However, this type of globe can be taken completely out of its mounting with a reversible mounting. You can measure a great circle route, then reverse the base so that all can see better. [Music] Through the years, a program of graded globes has been developed. Similar to the more familiar reading and arithmetic programs, graded globes gradually introduce more details at the appropriate time. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Globes designed for readiness programs in the lower grades have a minimum of symbols and contain only two colors, blue for water and usually buff or green for land. These two colors at this readiness level are sufficient to emphasize the natural aspects of the earth's surface and to give a realistic overall representation of the world. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Place names are purposely held to a minimum. However, additional names and symbols can be added at your discretion. relate information to both maps and globes because these are companion tools. The simplest map for the readiness level is the chalkboard outline map. [Music] In the lower grades, you'll get better results if the children can use desk project globes. These are small enough to handle easily yet big enough to teach important concepts such as the earth is almost round like a ball. Discuss an imaginary plane trip around the world. Notice how the plane disappears as it circles the globe. Relate the size of the Earth to the length of time it takes a plane to fly around it. [Applause] [Music] To help answer the question, what makes day and night? Darken the room and use a film strip projector or flashlight to show how the sun's rays fall on one side of the earth. [Music] Basic fundamentals combined with your own creativity will produce many good lessons using globes. [Music] In the intermediate grades, the readiness program is continued and advanced. Emphasis is on the Earth's surface rather than on political divisions. Color symbols are still kept to a minimum. Sometimes shading indicates elevation patterns, but only the more important mountains, rivers, and cities are shown, always with large, clear printing. Continue to correlate globes and maps. Maps designed for early experiences usually show only one part of the world, as the student would see this same part on the globe. [Music] Maps and globes have legends to explain their symbols. [Music] But one major problem is that these symbols do not look like the things they represent. Limited pictorial illustrations are found in some map legends. More pictorial information can be found on map symbol charts. These charts bring concrete meaning to highly abstract symbols. [Music] As students increase their learning, more advanced charts will be useful. [Music] And you will need more advanced globes such as this one using the full international color scheme to indicate the depth of water and the altitude of land. Most globes have the color legend printed on them to help students understand the ocean depths and elevation patterns. By choosing graded maps that correspond to specific graded globes, you can teach many concepts faster and your students will retain them longer. In junior and senior high school, globe and map skills introduced at earlier levels are refined and expanded. At these higher levels, globes 16 in or larger in diameter are more useful. For example, they have over 75% more surface area than 12-in globes. [Music] This larger surface area allows space for more details and the addition of features like the time dial and the analemma. The analemma gives the latitude of the sun's direct rays at noon on any given day of the year and the difference between suntime and standard time throughout the year. There should be a 16-in physical political globe in each secondary social studies classroom. This type of globe stresses natural features, but also includes man-made patterns such as cities and boundary lines. [Music] These students are relating maps to globes in studying roots of the explorers. [Music] High school classes can use many types of globes, such as this slated outline globe [Music] and the large 24in globe. Teach your class more about maps and globes by using other instructional aids like flannel boards, atlases, both physical and political, film strips, motion pictures, and bulletin boards. In the space age of today, our global world becomes increasingly meaningful. [Music] Remember that globes are most effective when they can be handled, studied individually, and marked on. [Music] Help your students to understand more about the Earth we live on by using the right globe at the right time. [Music] first started watching that, I was like, "No. No, no, don't mark on the globe. Don't draw on it. What are you painting? But, um, so I guess that was part of what you're supposed to do is like draw on a globe. Um, yeah. All right. So, uh, I wanted to do some business first. Uh, quickly, I kind of compressed the Toappi tournament uh, right bracket. Some of you have been voting and uh would love for you to kind of tune in and vote if you haven't already. Um just email me at skipavgeeks.com. Uh so this is a seven minute compressed thing. Enjoy. So uh we're going to start off with and and again so there's eight competitors and there's four uh [Music] Build moving ahead. Working to spread the promise. New day. The feeling runs deep. Working to keep the promise. Oh, let it roll. Keep those big wheels headed toward the goal. Let it roll. Bring it on in so we can take control. Let it roll. Keeping the promise. Keeping that great old recipe. Keeping the promise. Setting our sights on quality. Giving a promise. Giving it way down deep inside. Giving our bills every [Music] drink cuz that's how they think. But that's okay. The Hebrews like their wine and the Italians too. The Germans drink their beer like the Africans still in China and Japan. Rice wine was always grand. Russians have been drinking vodkas ever since they were tiny. Todd Scotch can drink their scotch. The English drink their gin drinking ale. If you were a D or it all depends on where you came, the type of drink you drink. But alcohol can be enjoyed by all depending on how you think. I'm going to give a gift. You never guess what it is. Oh, what a gift I'll give. There's no way you'll ever guess. It's big. It's big. It's big. It's big. It's big. It's big. What is it? Won't say. What is it? No way. Is it bigger than a bubble? You bet. Is it bigger than a barber shop? Is it bigger than a cubello? Is it bigger than an armadillo? It's big. It's big. It's big. It's big. It's big. It's big. What is it? Won't say what is it? No way. [Music] Give it back. Give it back, Jennifer. You make me very angry. You're playing very mean. I want to throw the ball with you. It makes me want to scream. I feel like pushing and hurting the people that I see. I wish I knew how to make them as angry as they make me. What do you do with anger you can't hide? What do you do on the outside? What do you do with anger you can't hide? What do you do on the outside? [Music] We can't send the students and teachers back to school hungry. So, we're feeding them all breakfast. [Music] You can do it. You can do it. Eat our heart. You can do it. You can do it. Each heart, you can do it. You can do it. our heart. [Music] Good things happen when you start snacking on a lip smacker candy bar. It's so much fun when your tummy goes yum with a Lip Smacker candy bar. Let your lips smack. Let your lips smack. Yes, good things happen when you start snacking on a lip smacker candy bar. There are many different kinds of boys in the world. There are many different kinds of girls in the world. There are many different kinds of birds in the world. There are crows. There are robins. There are many different kinds of trees in the world. Many different ways of saying please in the world. Just as there are different shapes of clouds up above, there are many different kinds of love. Kind of love. Kind of love. [Music] [Music] Run for your life. [Music] You can't cheat the devil today. Run for your life. The daddy is price to pay. You got future. No more pain and tears. [Music] You can't live your life much looser when you run away. [Music] Uh yeah. So keep anyhow that's uh the right bracket. Uh, some of you have been voting. I would love to get more of your votes. There's more people who are watching the show now than who have voted. So, please send me your votes. Skip at a ggeeks.com. Um, unfortunately, we don't have time for the Sunny Bono uh marijuana film because it's 420. But I did find this is a weird thing. Um, I I guess this is a consumer guide for buying pot. It's called Goodbye Weed. Um, all right. And let's watch it. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] This is Henry Smith I, a good man in his time. Phew. And as you can see, his time was long ago. Things were rough at the dawn of history, and Henry was no exception. But something else was even tougher than Henry. That's right. We personal pride and the fact that he has to get home makes Henry do something about them or try to. [Music] Poor [Music] old Henry, low man on the totem pole of progress. Life wasn't much fun in your day, was it? Not nearly so much fun, for example, as it was later on, about the time the hanging gardens of Babylon were busy becoming one of the seven wonders of the world. By now, civilization had progressed to where local bigwigs couldn't, for the life of him see how things could possibly be any better. One local citizen, however, was rather sour on that idea. He was Henry Smith the 31st chief hanging gardener. But the hanging gardens were no bed of roses for him. Ah, good old progress. But alas, no progress in the weed department. The Yanka Mountain hope technique was the same as it was back in the caveman days. Then came the brave new world across the sea. Settlements marking monumental steps forward in man's development came to Henry the 91st. A man of pious temperament, slow to anger, and gentle as a dove. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Those were the good old days. Gone, all gone. And we can't shed a single tear over their going. For life today is so much more pleasant, easier, happier. Today is modern, new, progressive. This is the gracious age. The age of pleasant, easily runun homes, of pushb button cooking, of automatic devices one after another to take the drudgery out of necessary chores. [Music] Yes, it's good to be alive today. Alive and relaxed in the sun. Relaxed and playing in the sun. Like this child of nature, Henry the 101st. He lives in a fortunate age indeed. The problems of yesterday are all behind him. Well, most of the problems. [Music] [Applause] [Music] I play golf on Saturday afternoons. This is Saturday afternoon. I play golf. What about the lawn? The lawn? The lawn we so proudly own, my pet, is spawn of the devil. It's a gigantic, inhuman plot against me and my good works. It is living, breathing proof that black magic stalks abroad today. To make myself perfectly clear, it kills me. I play golf. Hi, Mac. Afternoon. You're welcome. Oh, thanks. [Music] A little off my game today. You should try loosen your grip. It's very helpful sometimes. Huh? Like this. [Music] Hey. Hey. Hey, watch it. Oh, I'm very sorry. Very, very sorry. Hey, Max. What is this stuff anyway? Weed no more. The question still stands. What is it? It's a weed killer. Oh, one of those things. I wouldn't say exactly that. Meaning what? Meaning this. This particular preparation really works. see any weeds on my fairway? Come to think of it, no, I I haven't recently. You mean that this stuff I mean you don't have to pull weeds or poison the grass or or or that is uh this weed what do you call it? It's the whole works. Weed no more. The whole works. Dr. Smith your b Yeah, thanks. [Music] That wasn't a bad round today. I didn't expect to break a 100. Keep trying. Thanks for the lift home. Come in a minute. [Music] How do you do it? How in the world do you do it? My yard. Oh, come on. Take a look. Oh, hey. [Music] That's all there is to it. Did the whole job, the whole works. Hm. So, Mac was telling me about this this weed no more. Just what does this stuff do? How does it work? Well, it uh causes the weeds to commit suicide. I see. Would you mind repeating that? Well, this is not just another weed killer. It works where others fail. You see, industrial and university scientists worked out weed no more and developed it on the principle that it can be more effective to make a weed kill itself than to poison it. And when I say worked, I mean worked. From a theory to a proved tested product was no overnight step. Years of research, hundreds on hundreds of experiments, large sums of money, and the result is literally a miracle of science. The lazy man's way of weeding. A shorefire killer that works like magic, making weeds shrivel up and die. One that definitely does not kill or injure common lawn grasses. A sure acting preparation that starts to work immediately on contact. One that means sure death to a list of weeds as long as your arm. And as I say, Weed No More does all this by literally forcing the weed to kill itself. Here's what happens when the Weed No More spray comes in contact with the leaves of a weed. It is quickly absorbed. The leaves curl and twist as the spray affects the entire plant system. The roots are weakened, the leaves wither, and the color fades. Soil bacteria and fungus move in and the roots begin to rot. Soon the weed is disintegrated, completely gone, root and all, leaving only a hole in the ground. [Applause] Results begin to show within 24 hours. [Applause] Within a week, brown or dark spots appear. [Music] And in another week or two, the weed is completely shriveled, died, and rotted away. gone for good. It can never reappear later. [Music] Weed no more is really magic. Modern magic. It works on many weeds, not just a few. Broadleaf plantin, for example. [Music] the narrowleaf plantin is affected in the same way over a light period of time. [Music] The reaction of ragweed is more emphatic and the result inevitable. [Music] [Applause] and so on down the line. Black medic. Poison oak, bindweed, duck, mustard, thistle, and many, many others. [Music] Sounds like you know a lot about it. Well, I like to know what I'm getting for my money. How do you mix it? Two tablespoon fulls in a gallon of water. [Music] Weed no more, my lady. Oh, we no more for me. The uh auction sale, movie prize. Oh, I know. Volunteer fire department. You, my pet, married a man of vast discernment, sound judgment, and rare acumen. Mhm. Uh, what does it mean this time? No doubt you've heard of DDT, a jet propulsion, the atom bomb. In short, the better known wonders of the modern world. No doubt. I have here the prize of them all. Step up, ladies and gentlemen. Step right up. Don't be afraid. Presto Henry, not more hair tonic and with a spray. This pet is not hair tonic. It's weed no more. Designed especially to take the back break out of lawn care, sweeten the disposition, and strengthen the soul. It's also designed to save time. Leave us have at it, shall we? [Music] Weed killer. Huh? That little bit for this big lawn. That little bit for this big log. Just watch Paty. [Music] Only two tablespoons to each gallon of water. No. Yes. Potent stuff. Highly concentrated. And $1 buys enough to treat the average lawn. Now mix it well. And now let us spray. [Music] Wherever the weeds are. If the whole lawn's weedy, spray it all. If they're only weedy patches, spray the patches. Logical, huh? Freezy breezy. Go back. Oh, let him come. Let him come. This modern miracle, as the man called it, hurts only weeds. Absolutely harmless to animals, children, henpecked husbands, and beautiful wives. [Music] Henry, what if it doesn't work? Don't try to answer, Henry. You'll just go on spraying that lawn of yours. Let Weed No more do the rest. Weed No More won't fail you any more than it failed on the immaculate turf of the famed Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland, scene of two national Open Golf tournaments. It will live up to your fondest expectations, just as it does for the owners of beautiful estates from coast to coast. It will do the job for you as thoroughly as it does for well-known educational centers where carefully maintained grounds add charm and loveliness to their campuses. [Music] [Applause] as solid a job as it does for municipal governments who have found that clean grassy parkways pay off in civic pride and reputation, not to mention motoring pleasure. And lovely, clean turfed country areas like this add to man-made beauty, utility, and profit to nature's gifts. That's right. Just leave it to weed no more from now on. That's all you have to do. [Music] Except of course wait a little while but not for long. At the end of only one week you'll see that weeds are really on their way out and a lovely lawn is on its way in. End of week number two and things look even better. It won't be long now. [Music] End of the third week. Complete success. And so at long last, the happy ending comes to Henry Smith in his battle against weeds. For the first time since the dawn of history, he's completely the victor. Easily, effortlessly, economically. It took centuries, but he finally got there. For now, it's goodbye weeds. [Music] Okay, so that didn't have anything to do with marijuana. Um, but I wanted to show it nonetheless. Uh, and I'm sorry about the audio sync. That was weird. Uh, I'm not quite sure what was going on with that. If it was the Meg 4 or I don't know, there's you have a file structure, you have an audio stream and a video stream. And usually you have key frames that sync up the points, but maybe this one was missing them. I don't know. One day we will find out. Uh, but thank you for tuning in today. Very much appreciated. If you happen to be in the North Carolina Triangle area, uh, I'm going to be at the Alamo Draft House at 5:00 today, uh, talking about VHS tapes and might have some merch, some t-shirts for sale, uh, some other stuff. Um, also if you have some VHS that you need cleaned, I'm going to I have a VHS uh cleaning machine that we can use. Uh, there will also be other vendors there uh for the VHS happy hour. And then at 7 o'clock, uh, Found Footage Festival is going to present their documentary, Chop and Steel. Um, and it's going to be hilarious and uh I will be there to intro them and um yes, there'll be a lot of found media people in that building. Even Josh Schaefer from Lunch Meet VHS will be there. Um, so a lot of fun. Uh, come on out. The VHS event is free. Uh, the hangout after after the screening is free. Uh, you have to buy tickets to see the movies, but uh, it's well worth it. Anyhow, uh we'll be back again tomorrow and uh we'll watch some more films because that's what we do here. Uh everybody take care. Have a great rest of your day. Bye.
