so so so so so hello everybody welcome i'm skip alzheimer and this is the av geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 millimeter films from my collection um and from uh kind of sister collections of uh associates who have films that we've scanned for them over the years and that was from the orgone archive uh 1940 uh legion parade in boston um 13-hour parade wow that's that's something else um and just so much i guess it was a national event so you had all these legion legionnaires coming from all over the uh united states and they all had their own parade uh floats and they all had their own marching bands and wow over the top and so what i'm thinking is it's possible that somebody or a couple of people shot footage there and then they all sent it together to a place that edited it and put titles um or somebody edited it and then paid somebody to put titles on it and then they made a print of it and so that's what we ended up with was a print that was probably distributed or sold to um legion members um fascinating and you could tell that like in some cases the film was the right speed in some cases it was towards towards the end there was some sped up so i feel like there were different camera people shooting at different camera speeds and they didn't really take the time and energy to retime it um wow so uh i don't know if you guys follow the found footage festival folks but uh they have been over the last couple of weeks doing a what they call the 2021 uh tow tournament tournament um where they have been picking some of their catchiest toe tapping songs and jingles from the videos that they collect and they've been having a tournament to determine what is going to be the best and at one point uh joe from film footage festival said you know what we should take on av geeks because i'm sure they have a lot of great stuff and in fact somebody who watches me watches the av geek show actually submitted the glamorama jingle um that i showed a couple of weeks ago and you know it was an honorable mention it didn't make the cut but um i think that's what got joe thinking and i was like all right i will take you on because we've got some serious toe tapping ear worms that will take them down uh so what we're going to do probably starting wednesday is we're going to start a we'll watch regular films but then i think we're going to enter at the end of each show we're going to have a competition between a couple of songs and jingles um and so you guys can make uh some suggestions we've taken we solicited for suggestions last time and um so right now based on just your suggestions and based on what we have we have 30 songs in jingles and so we have to kind of condense that down try to get it down to 16 before we compete and what we'll do is we'll have you guys um help us pick so what we'll do is it'll be just like a tournament bracket where we'll have songs competing against each other and then eventually i think by the end of next week we will have we'll get it down to four of our best most um ear worm toe tappiness songs and then we will compete with found footage festival like the first week of may and we will take them down [Laughter] um so i've been looking through my database to see like over the years what films that i have that were like oh that has a great song so i'm going to watch some of those ones that we have not seen um and just kind of think like is that a good song or not a good competitor so this next one is called if and it's not the lindsay anderson if um it is the i can't remember who made this um journal films i think here's if [Music] three three three three [Music] so if you're having a good time at the zoo what if this happens to you what's wrong i have to go to the washington what do you think i should do [Music] there's always something happening there's always something new now how would you make your mind up about what you would do hey i saw the zookeeper over there feeding the animals why would i go and ask him come on [Music] could you tell me where the washroom is yes the washroom is right down the sidewalk you're going to the big building down at the end you go inside the washington is downstairs into your lap there's always something happening there's always something new now that's what jennifer did what else could you do excuse me sir where's the washroom straight down that way thank you [Music] does anyone else have anything to show to the class all right nicole my mother and father were walking and they passed the store and they saw this and they and they knew that i would like it because i have a pet dog that looks exactly like this so they decided to buy it so i brought it to school so everybody could see it i'm gonna pass it around what if this what if that what if this happens to you you have to make your mind up about what you would do you have to make your mind up about what you would do i broke the call doctor what do you think i should do [Music] think suppose it was your dog and he cole broke it what you want nicole to do well i don't know think about it can you make your mind up about what kim should do i'm sorry nicole i broke your dog i really didn't mean it but i have some money in the bag i'll buy a new one can you think of other things what else could he do maybe we can fix it in class if we can i'm gonna take it home and ask my dad if he can fix [Music] it [Music] uh [Music] i think i spread my ankle can i do anything no are you sure yeah oh what do you think you're gonna do here's another problem has it happened to you let's take a look at what jim did and three things you might do i think i'll go to the next door neighbor's house wait for my mom to get back from the grocery store there's a public telephone at the corner i think i'll call my dad at work why don't you come to my house and wait until your mother comes home from the store what if this what if that what if this happens to you think about it carefully and you'll know what to do there's always something happening funny scary or new it's easy to make your mind up there's lots that you can do [Music] what if this what if that what if this happens to you just think and make your mind up about what you will do it may seem like a problem but there's many choices for you it's kind of fun to think about just what you might do [Music] don't be afraid make your mind up what do you do if it happens to you as always we love films that have kids um caught in moral dilemmas or situations were like what's gonna happen um i love it especially ones that are open-ended and they don't really uh always give you the answer to what the the problem is um so and i don't know what do you think do you think that song is worthy to be included on our ever-growing list of jingles uh or do you think that something else should should beat that um some of you guys have been posting things which are already on the list and then i've been adding some to the list i should say that your suggestions are all appreciated and uh wanted but some of them might not make the cut to the the sweet 16 that um we're going to start off with um but we're going to consider all of the the uh ones that you have i should say that um years ago before i was selling videotapes of shows that i did and dvds of shows that i did before i posted videos online uh my friend ian shannon and i uh compiled a bunch of uh soundtracks from the 60 millimeter films and he mastered them and it was the av geeks 16 millimeter soundtrack cd that we sold through uh our label wifflefist and uh so i pulled from some of those uh and what we're going to try to do is not just play the song but you'll actually see the visuals associated with it and so um surprisingly some of the songs on that one didn't make the cut um on the mammal and so are you did not make the cut because it's basically a cover of don't fade away um by buddy holly so but with mammals alright uh this next film is another film from the oregon archive um they had the legion uh parade footage this one is in glorious color a holy cow so good curtain time [Music] like most architects blister bear claw hackensack and jones welcome the opportunity to become better acquainted with revolutionary new building materials [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh no matter how justifiable the salesman's faith in his product may be the most promising innovation has little chance of finding practical application unless its possibilities can be thoroughly evaluated by the architect congratulations mr jones your firm has just been selected to introduce miracle brick the completely new revolutionary building material now because they're made entirely of homogenized feathers activated with helium no foundation or mortar is required the roof holds them gently but firmly in position soft and cuddly the down construction is also non-toxic guaranteed safe for children and pets miracle brick is guaranteed non-combustible impervious to water easily wrung out yet capable of holding moisture now as you can see when i place it on the floor and jump jump jump up and down on it you can see the terrific i have an appointment [Music] when cheese incorporated called on wilbur's firm to design a new structure for their home offices it wasn't that they considered their building old-fashioned they were just a little crowded for space when my wife and i were in egypt last year it occurred to her that is us a pyramid-shaped structure would symbolize the stability of the firm and the strength and integrity of its founder my thank you henry to saboni thought man the very idea i had myself inspired by the outrageous prices that charging for real estate of course i'm new an engineer but i'm sure wilbur is a connie land who knows how to build a pyramid to take advantage of all the free space so thoughtfully provided by our neighbors right economics has the right so let's make sure everyone salutes uh i don't pretend to be a draftsman but you can appreciate the advantage of identifying the building with our product naturally we use an irregular window pattern to simulate the holes in our tasty swiss miss brand absolutely identifying ourselves with our customers overseas will plug foreign sales while enhancing international goodwill luckily the amount of time and effort clients artistic contributions save architects is a closely guarded secret so help me a pyramid that would symbolize the stupidity of the fur and take advantage of all the free space while enhancing international goodwill actually we'd use an irregular window pattern of course it's possible so what if it does have my name on it the lords i have here exhibit a the culprit's own rendering of the monstrosity he willfully inflicted upon the city that gave him birth vile unspeakable he has betrayed his clients disgraced an honorable profession but need i go on [Music] wilbur knows that to maintain his reputation as a competent architect he must seek aesthetic expression in functional terms within the client's practical requirements he must depend upon the versatility of his materials to maintain freedom of design the comparative cost durability and appearance of steel curtain wall construction is of great interest to wilbur steel curtain wall construction is used extensively in schools banks shopping centers research centers industrial plants and buildings of many kinds and sizes many unique properties give stainless steel a distinct advantage over any other structural material its appearance is both pleasing and permanent it is available in a wide range of finishes from mirror bright to a rich satin a large assortment of stock patterns is available or if the architect prefers he can use his creative ability to design a panel which can be easily shaped to almost any profile pressed and rolled designs are widely used for interesting textural effects to obtain the precise reflection value desired or to eliminate oil canning in addition stainless steel makes an elegant skin for columns it has no equal for bright accents and trim and is particularly suitable for framing windows and panels porcelain enameled steel with the added dimension of permanent color is another extremely durable material it is non-combustible porcelain enameled steel can cope successfully with the elements and it is highly resistant to abrasion rain provides all the cleaning porcelain enamel needs and many examples have shown no evidence of fading after 30 years exposure to the sun like stainless steel it is available in many stock patterns or it can be custom formed to any shape or in any size wilbur decided that the use of steel curtain walls would give him the freedom of expression he needed to design a building that would be both beautiful and functional so fully prepared for the meeting with his client wilbur explained the design for your new building should symbolize the good taste and integrity of the firm while reflecting the strength and permanence of the pyramids it should provide maximum usable space in keeping with sound economics and from an aesthetic point of view capture the dynamic sales and advertising philosophy of the firm gentlemen my design for your consideration [Applause] with the client's hearty approval of his preliminary design wilbur considered all the available forms and basic properties of steel curtain walls he knew porcelain enamel could give him virtually unlimited effects any color could be achieved in porcelain enameled steel in any finish from matte to glossy stamped or embossed designs could be specified in monochrome or contrasting hues he could choose an overall two color textured finish produce mosaic effects or even embossed designs with a silk screen wilbur could even realistically portray the sponsor's product if he were not inhibited by good taste the color and pattern of the outer panel is a matter of personal choice however the type and amount of insulating material used and the design of the interface are dictated by sound engineering principles the sandwich or panel must fulfill the functions of a wall all any architect has to do is consider steel curtain wall construction and the word gets around in a flash representatives of reliable fabricators make a beeline for the architect more than eager to explain in detail how much they know about steel curtain wall construction with the benefit of the experience of over 100 steel curtain wall fabricators wilbur is better able to cope with the many details of designing the new building he knows that proper joining of component parts is vitally important to successful curtain wall construction from among the basic types in use wilbur specifies a combined panel unit with split structural mullion he also specifies that joints be provided with seals that meet all basic performance requirements to compensate for expansion and contraction due to thermal extremes and pressures on both faces of the wall among the many types of test proven sealants marketed under various trade names polysulfide mastic fillers butyl based tapes and extruded elastomer gaskets can be depended upon to retain their integrity under all weather conditions for long periods of time stainless steel was chosen for the vertical mullions because it will never corrode or pit and is easily formed in any shape it was possible to use a light gauge because the alloys which enable it to retain its luster permanently make it stronger this advantage was fully exploited in designing the stainless steel cross mullions and window frames and finally wilbur specified a fastener adjustable in three planes so the unit could be attached to the building within ordinary building tolerances with his plans completed wilbur is confident he estimated costs accurately but sees no harm in playing it safe until the bids from the general contractors are in [Music] i cannot believe it the highest bid 5 under the estimate congratulations wilbur [Music] the curtain wall fabricator who was awarded the job also contracted to erect the wall and wilbur is pleased to discover that the fabricator isn't taking his responsibility lightly he warrants the skin against leakage because units of a similar design had passed his static wind test with flying colors furthermore the same type unit had been subjected to the standard wind and water test without any trouble nor is he worried about the porcelain enamel spalling tests prove that it can withstand an extremely high degree of torsion without damaging the finish with the fabricators assurance that each and every unit would be delivered exactly as specified wilbur didn't have too much left to worry about since the fabricator is also responsible for erection and with everyone in town keeping an eye on him it's safe to presume he'll take reasonable precautions to protect the panels from damage because steel curtain walls are lighter and thinner they permit significant savings in structural steel provide more usable floor space and are conveniently handled by a minimum crew the use of steel panels reduces the need for exterior scaffolding because they are attachable from the interior efficiently designed fasteners support the weight of the units and provide ample tolerance for fast precise installation speed of erection ensures early occupancy [Music] steel curtain wall construction enables any architect to maintain his freedom of design with the assurance he can meet the client's requirements at a competitive cost [Music] once more please hold it thank you and thank you mr jones i ever tell you i once seriously considered becoming an architect myself yes well it's been a pleasure working with a young man so amenable to my suggestions oh don't say a word jonesy it's enough to know my little sketch helped you capture the international ramifications of the firm and thanks to me you didn't forget to be practical good show jones this is exactly what i meant it's a conversation piece absolutely you've given us exactly what we had in mind i did boy we're just drumming out the stereotypes of that one aren't we um so oregon archive is based in pittsburgh so of course there's a lot of u.s steel films that show up in in that collection and that one i don't even know if that was ever shown it was so beautiful such a beautiful print um so it got technical pretty quickly but i love it uh let's see so i got another uh potential uh i looked in the notes again in my database to see i basically did a search for interesting film or interesting song uh and again these are potential candidates for our uh tournament tournament being t-o-e dash nument uh toe uh toe being toe tapping or catchy or ear worm so this one is by handle films it's four one no it's food one two three four so here it is enjoy [Music] the way you look and how you feel will create your role in the scene build yourself a character that's real get a good start by being clean washing your face feeling fresh and finding a place under the sun combing your hair brushing your teeth taking good care it's got to be done you know what i mean are you clean [Music] there is something about products from looking good and so much hard sell for all this stuff it's hard to know what to buy you know how to get the most for your money [Music] have you tried blossom soap with orange essence the next time you buy soap buy blossom soap with orange essence blossom soap with orange essence soap scents and the hard hard sell every day we're bombarded by advertising for so many different kinds of soaps deodorant shampoos hair conditioners rinses toothpastes it's hard to know what to buy for some answers let's ask dr lauren rager for some basic information as to which products will give us the most for our money one of the most important things to remember is that it isn't necessary to spend a lot of money on highly advertised products in most cases the least expensive one that does the job is the one to buy for instance take that basic item soap to know which kind to buy we first have to understand how soap works under our skin we have both oil glands and sweat glands this combination of oil and sweat provides a sticky substance for dirt and bacteria to cling to it also creates a first-class breeding ground for bacteria which produces what we call body odor the main purpose of soap is to put the dirt oil sweat and bacteria into suspension so it's easier to wash off plain water won't do it when you buy soap compare prices because even the least expensive kind of personal soap will usually do the job now some of those fancy soaps may be very nice but they may be also very expensive not necessary [Music] [Applause] [Music] something else adding cream or lubricant to soap to soften the skin really doesn't make sense soap is supposed to remove all foreign materials from the skin so how can it be expected to leave a lubricating oil behind to lubricate dry skin a cream or oil should be applied after washing for most people the answer is just plain soap [Music] how often you need a bath depends on how much dirt and sweat you accumulate on your skin most people bathe every day if you take showers first get good and wet then step out of the spray before you rub on the soap so it doesn't wash off too soon use plenty of soap to loosen the dead skin cells dirt oil and sweat [Music] [Music] be careful to do a good job of drying where the skin surfaces come together this helps prevent bacterial infections when you're clean it doesn't make sense to put on dirty clothes so it's clean socks and clean underwear every day and then some people like to relax in a [Music] bathtub for more protection for lasting effectiveness use right dry the super deodorant and stay as fresh as the breezes of spring stay as fresh as the breezes of spring body odor is more social problem than a medical line bio doesn't do any physical damage but it can sure cause some social damage [Applause] [Music] sweat brings with it to the skin surface chemicals such as salt potassium ammonia and urea add some bacteria and you have body odor odor forming bacteria develops most rapidly enclosed in areas where the moisture can't evaporate easily so what do you do about it well first of all take a bath to wash it all off there are two products that are frequently used in addition to bathing antiperspirants and deodorants deodorants try to mask body odor while antiperspirants try to diminish the flow of perspiration most commonly used products are a combination of both so which one is the best buy well the spray type is usually more expensive because of the cost of the propellant because of this the roll-on kind is usually your best buy but change brands occasionally so as not to develop an allergic reaction to any particular one and then after using new super sheen improved with protein suddenly your hair has a new vital healthy glow by super sheen costs more but worth it with protein cosmo and worth it in order to decide what hair products to buy we must first understand the nature of hair hair is dead material as it grows it comes loose from the root and is replaced by new hair around each hair follicle or small oil sacs the oil from these sacs coats the hair to protect against dryness brushing your hair cleans away dead skin and old hair it helps spread the natural oil over the length of the hair to make it glossy and healthy [Music] but don't overdo it too much brushing may irritate your scalp or cause the hair to break off just as well tight ponytails but i still don't know what to buy deciding which shampoo to buy can be very confusing because there are so many different kinds with such a variety of ingredients [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] as the basic ingredient in shampoo is detergent or soap it's almost sure that the extra ingredients get washed down the drain with the rinse water since hair is basically a dead matter it will not absorb any real amount of these extra substances from a shampoo that's why the cheapest shampoo usually does the job to have healthy hair and scalp just keep it clean you may use plain soap if you want to this sometimes leaves a slight film on your hair but it's easily washed out by adding a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar to the rinse water [Music] then rinse again in cleaning water [Music] there are many good commercial rinses however money considered you really don't need one unless you prefer it and they usually aren't necessary with most shampoos next question how often can i wash my hair generally speaking as often as you want to people with long or very oily hair will want to wash their hair more often maybe every day while we're on the subject of hair there's something else we should talk about pediculosis now that's just a high class word for lice lie nice life what's that lice are little bugs that live at the hair roots where they can get at the scalp they are tough and they multiply quickly lice usually get from one person to another by combs and brushes from hats and in clothing if your scalp itches frequently and you have what looks like dandruff but won't blow away you may have lice although most drug stores carry a lice killing preparation it's best to see a doctor or go to your county health department where treatment is free have you tried super shine the toothpaste with added z7 for extra whiteness brush your teeth with super shine for the smile with sex appeal sexy teeth yet there's more to tooth care than advancing your popularity and you don't need the most tightly advertised toothpaste to have healthy teeth and gums for instance a mixture of ordinary table salt and baking soda does a good job and it only costs a few cents a week [Music] tea should be brushed at least twice a day preferably after meals to get out all the food particles [Music] a soft toothbrush is best because a hard one may damage your teeth and gums [Music] dental floss helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and along the gum line a fluoride toothpaste is usually recommended by dennis as this helps protect teeth against decay and see your dentist twice a year for a checkup to prevent trouble later on [Music] [Applause] velvet cream is the cream for a better complexion a more lovely skin use velvet cream and your skin will look as wonderful as nature as wonderful as nature herself [Music] except for those with dry skin most teenagers don't need cream for their faces teenagers already have enough trouble with oily skin as it is the main problem being acne correct treatment depends on the type and severity of acne you have if keeping the skin dry with soap and water and the use of medications from the drugstore doesn't help then see a doctor for treatment these are some of the basics of how to look your best along with some tips about buying personal hygiene products and how it isn't necessary to buy the expensive ones now there are a few other things to keep in mind about looking and feeling your best for instance get enough rest plenty of exercise [Music] dress neatly and eat a balanced diet [Music] the way you learn and how you feel will create your role in the scene build yourself the character that's real get a good start by being clean washing your face feeling fresh and kind enough place under the sun combing your hair brushing your teeth taking good care it's got to be done you know what i mean are you clean [Music] obviously that was not food one two three four it's it was the can that was on top of the the one two three four can uh which was uh soap sense and the hard hard sell um which has that are you clean song at the beginning is which was in my notes i uh was playing it and i was kind of taking some notes and i heard the are you clean song was like wait a minute why is this being used in the food song i'm like oh it's not the food not the food film um anyways uh is that a toe tapping uh earworm catchy song that should make our list of the top 16. um what do you think um we're gonna have a more formalized way for you guys to vote on wednesday the idea i think is uh we're still working this out with logistics but i think we're gonna have two competitions per a show so it won't be dominating the entire show uh with music but um yeah also somebody in the comments said that was rita wilson a future uh mrs tom hanks that was in that last film um i i don't know what she looks like so i couldn't tell you but uh yeah that's what would happen is uh actors and actresses would show up in films before they made it big on uh movies and television they would do these little things um i like that film a lot you know i feel like it should be shown an updated version should be shown nowadays that kind of talks about the uh all the massive advertising to sell you soap and hygiene products and you know how you don't need a lot of that um kind of take the this out of it all uh we're gonna end with uh this uh if you like what you saw please um hit uh like subscribe ring the notification bell which some people say you do with youtube i don't know uh you can also buy us coffee at this link that i'm pointing at here um you can also visit avgeeks.com and see other films that we have digitized and things like that but we're gonna go i told you i was looking for the end of the programming day film and this isn't the one i was looking for but this will do here we go lady geeks now and their programming day [Music] so [Music] everybody have a good rest of your day please rewind take care of yourself love each other and uh we will see you tomorrow one o'clock everybody have a good monday take care six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight seven six five four three eight
