foreign hello everybody hey I'm Steve bellsheimer welcome to the AV Geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 millimeter films uh sometimes made by uh a despotic fascist government uh like the last film that we saw that was made um during the Third Reich in Germany we actually have several educational films from that time period um there and many of them are just general films about uh German whatever there's a couple of military ones in there um but there's something about just uh German folk crafts uh German uh things like wine uh and other types of agricultural things so they're they're basically just educational films and the government just happened to be Third Reich uh so anyways and that was silent but there were German intertitles and I uh I don't know German even though my Heritage is German um but uh you're growing up this film is missing its title and it was this film was kind of made by Sid Davis uh who made a lot of uh cautionary tales for kids and this one is just a general this is how kids grow up enjoy wage had exciting and everyone asks himself how will I turn out what will I have to go through what will it be like well the most important thing to know is that each person is different and so he grows differently but each of us will at some time or other go through four major periods of growing up the first period lasts about three or four years and is the fastest period of growth during this period size increases but the body is out of proportion head large leg small the baby is almost completely helpless and depends on mother to take care of her to wash dress and feed her because she's growing fast her appetite is tremendous and she needs a lot of sleep she feels the whole world revolves around her desires in the beginning the baby is awkward and she tries hard to control her muscles and limbs she does not know what will hurt her because she has little knowledge to guide her each new experience however adds to the store of facts in her mind and though the experience may hurt it helps to avoid pain the next time the baby also looks outside herself for a guide learns to read the signs and understand the value of obedience it helps to keep her safe the baby resents anything or anyone that apparently robs her of her mother's attention and love during the second period which lasts from about Age 4 to age 10. growth slows down the Rhythm Is Calm And even here Dottie is not as awkward as the baby was she does many things for herself now and Depends Less on her mother at this age a girl likes to play at being mother a boy at being father this is her way of saying she's not a baby anymore she's growing up and she learns to shift some of her love for her parents and her desire for their attention to others she discovers that beside herself and her family there are other children in the world and blood M can be great fun Billy uses the same belt hole because during the second period size and weight change slowly and because Billy is growing slowly he has good coordination he is used to his arms and legs and is a good climber he's growing in another way he learns to read and his mind climbs too from one idea to another Billy has also developed a conscience he knows when he's doing right or wrong and when he does something wrong now he feels guilty in the third period from about age 11 to 16 growth speeds up again marked by many changes these changes sometimes cause worry Jill is worried about the size of her feet she need have no fear in this period feet frequently grow to full size before the rest of the body she simply has to learn to get used to them Jill's body is changing radically she's becoming a young lady and she's very much interested now in how she looks to her parents friends and of course to herself if Jill gets tired at night she's not lazy because she's growing fast her body needs more sleep and at this age Jill develops deep interests and friends this is part of learning to get along with others and here Johnny is going through a fat stage some children grow first it before in height so Johnny will be fat for a while until he begins to grow tall and here Gary's voice is changing because the vocal cords and voice box are growing with Gary it's picking out his own clothes this gradual desire for Independence is one of the interesting parts of growing up controlling anger becomes a problem there are frequent clashes of Desire between Gary and his father when he can't have his way he gets angry and horrible thoughts of Revenge creep into his mind he should not be afraid of these thoughts they are a natural outgrowth of his anger just remember thoughts will never hurt anyone but actions might one of the surest signs that Gary's learning to control his feelings is his being able to wait his turn by the end of the third period Dave is very anxious to become an adult his body begins to look like a man but he's still growing fast and so he's hungry all the time Dave can't understand why the coach who's no bigger than he is always wins the answer is simple muscles are among the last parts of the body to grow up bones and weight come first in a few years when his muscles have developed completely Dave may be able to beat the coach here Lee is wondering about being tall and gangly she grew in height before in weight though she may never get fat it's a good idea to develop the posture now that will keep her looking good when her weight does come sometimes excess oil forms Under the Skin and causes blemishes the best thing for them is a mild soap and water and like most cases leaves will probably Disappear by the time she finishes growing in the fourth period between the ages of 17 and 20 the body growth slows down and stops then you are full grown a girl is usually somewhat taller than her mother a boy somewhat taller than his father emotionally you should have achieved a healthy measure of Independence you should know your own mind and at the same time be able to accept help gracefully from others you should know your own desires and be able to wait and work for their salvation you should know who you are and what you want to be and be thinking about the fear a career and following up [Music] um so that print was all scratched up um or spiced up um probably exploded when somebody tried to thread it uh and the title was clipped but I have I think another copy that it has it and it says Sid Davis Productions on it it was distributed by bayley films um so it is not in the ilk of other Sid Davis films where we have um kids always on the threshold of of peril and also um headlines that come up that talk about kids in peril let's learn about wonders in a country stream enjoy [Music] have you ever gone out in the country on a warm sunny day in farim it's fun playing in a stream isn't it wading and wiggling your toes in the sand but have you ever looked closely to see what you can find there are many wonderful animals living in a stream if you lie still and watch you'll see small fish where the water runs deep you may be surprised to find a garter snake watching you there are strange moving Shadows made by insects that walk on water close by Adams will fly Suns itself on a rock yes there are wonderful things for you to find if you only look Let's Get Down close with this boy and girl and see what we can find that's a strange looking thing do you suppose it's alive lying in the water it looks like the bottom of the Stream but watch there a young caddisfly is hiding inside if he didn't move you'd hardly know anything was there but if you look in at the end you can see that he lives in a house shaped like a small tunnel he builds this house out of sand and bark so fish and other water animals won't eat him they probably won't even see him look at the trouble he's having pull pull that's a heavy house for a little animal to drag about it keeps him safe though so it must be worth all the trouble this insect has a cousin that builds a different kind of house inside he can stay hidden from a fish looking for there he is now sometimes house is called a log cabin because it's made of pieces of bark or wood see how tightly it's put together there are other water animals that carry their houses around with them here's one you all know a turtle see how he can pull his head and legs in under his shell when he thinks something might hurt him oh he doesn't seem to be very afraid of us though does he this kind of turtle is called a snapping turtle because he snaps at things to eat he won't snap at us though because he's still so small a turtle has no teeth but the edge of his mouth is sharp and his Jaws are very very strong so when he grows up we'll have to be careful that he doesn't snap at our fingers and really hurt us let's turn him over on his back and look at his Underside whoops once again well he doesn't seem to like it on his back if we hold him up we can see that he has a shell on this side too as a matter of fact the only parts that aren't covered are where his head and tail and legs come out even these can't be hurt easily see how thick the skin is that covers his legs he doesn't like to be held let's put him down and let him go back into the water even though you can't see anything at first something will be hiding in every pool in the Stream who knows the name of this strange looking creature it's a newt some people call it a water dog or salamander watch how clumsily it walks that's because it spends much of its life in water as a matter of fact the most interesting thing about a newt is that it is partly a water animal and partly a land animal here in a pool of water are several of its eggs bunched together this is the way a newt begins life then one day it hatches out into a tiny animal that looks like a baby fish here he is resting beside the eggs that still hold some of his brothers and sisters if you look closely you can see one of them turn over in its egg there did you see it a baby newt can breathe underwater as a fish does he breathes through what we call guilds these guilds stand out from his neck like small feathers here is a young Newt when he has grown almost to the size of your little finger he has legs and can walk now he's beginning to look like a grown-up Newt except that he still has his feathery guilds when he finally does grow up he loses his gills now he can live on land or in water can you think of any other animal that starts out life in water and then grows legs something that hops right a frog whoops oh come on now there have you ever tried to catch a frog even a baby frog like this one he certainly can jump and it wasn't so long ago that he didn't have any legs at all of course you all know what a frog is before he turns into a frog that's right a pollywog or perhaps you call it a tadpole probably some of you have caught pollywogs and watched them grow for a long while there isn't any change they swim about with their long tails and round eyes and round mouths then suddenly one day you find that they're growing some hind legs like this pollywog SUNY will grow front legs too do you see the bump where one of his front legs is going to be here he is a day or so later with four legs like the Newt he can breathe out of water now for the first time his tail is getting smaller already soon it will be gone completely and then he will be a frog foreign ly can breathe out of water now watch his throat go in and out as he takes quick little breaths and now his long hind legs have grown strong he always sits on them in position to jump the second he thinks he sees danger coming because he's a tree frog he can climb up the side of the jar and stay there not all frogs can do this the reason he is able to hold on is that he has small places on the end of each toe that stick to the glass if you've never done it you should catch some pollywogs and watch them grow into frogs you can learn many wonderful things about them why don't you see how many animals you can find the next time you go out in the country to a stream you may find all of these and many more and you'll be surprised at how much fun you'll have even more fun than waiting and wiggling your toes in the sand foreign yeah everything's clipped today um there is this film there's another film that's very similar to this it's called the wonders in a country meadow and then there's God's wonders in a country meadow and I always thought they were made by the same company but one has God in it but it I can't find the connection between the two so this was made by Churchill films uh Churchill Wexler uh and the other one yeah anyways uh what is a corporation uh this is missing the title too this uh is a cornet but maybe we can figure out what a corporation is Circa early 50s enjoy does the Imperial Steel company fit your mental picture of a corporation it's big business but to corporations have to be big business take renniker's Incorporated a drugstore corporations aren't always big are they and not all corporations are businesses consider for example Fairview Incorporated a town is not a business is it what about schools and colleges they are often corporations as are many churches hospitals and other non-profit organizations but business makes up the great majority of Corporations whether small or large incorporation is one way of organizing a business it is one form of business ownership Imperial Steel Incorporated has many of the legal rights of a person it owns the land and buildings and Equipment it can buy and sell property it can borrow money it can sue in court and be sued it carries on a business Imperial steel along with thousands of other legal persons is a part of our daily living it is a member of our society yet it is not simply this property nor is it a human being or a group of human beings it is Imperial Steel Company Incorporated with stock owned by people in widely scattered places [Music] I set a high value on my stock in Imperial Steel pays good dividend it's a Sound Investment and now you advise me to sell it what kind of a lawyer are you Sid well you'll have to raise the cash somehow and I think the Stock's the best way your book show clearly that the store is in no position to pay for all this new equipment and decorating so you and your partners are each personally liable for the whole amount my partners you know very well they haven't got anything more to put into this business just because I have this stock and a little property I have to come to the rescue or will be sued just as I told you when this partnership was formed each partner is personally liable for any debt or commitment to the store as a partner you are legally Bound by such contracts to the limit of your personal asset partnership could I ever get into this I was a lot better off in the days when I ran the business myself Fairview clothing store Walter Brown proprietor a good little business all my own I was a how do you say it legally single proprietor that's it I ran the store the way I wanted to I could do as I pleased and I collected all the profits that's the way to run a business on your own a single proprietor but you had difficulties in your one-man store your good location attracted business more business than you could handle alone besides waiting on customers and receiving and stacking Goods on the shelves you had paper trouble sales slip bills invoices man did you need help and suppose you got sick where would your one-man business be not only did you need the kind of help you can't hire you needed additional Capital to carry a larger variety of goods I needed Partners you said now I'm on the spot because of Partners water I still say a partnership was best for your kind of operation at that time you remember it was fairly simple once we found the right people Dependable men who had cash to invest and could do some of the work you needed there was Baker he had saved a little money while he worked 10 years as an accountant for a wholesale company you knew you could trust Baker he'd make a good partner he'd invest his cash and work as an accountant for a share of the profits and then there was Johnson he could also invest a little money and his experience as a clothing buyer for another company made him a valuable partner too we knew they'd work hard for the business because each had a personal interest in making it go as well as the ability to do the work that had to be done so you were Partners in the Fairview clothing store and with their cash and their help you were able to expand a little take on some additional lines of goods yes I think your partnership has done quite well I suppose so at least we did well until Johnson made the deal for those expensive modern fixtures a new storefront and signed commitments for more than already cash he would just talked into more than we can handle right now we to modernize the store like that but where is the money coming from Johnson signed a contract I have to pay for it even though I'm the biggest investor in the store I can't cancel a contract for all that custom-made equipment it's just lucky for this whole partnership that I can scrape up a little more money to invest in this store but I don't want this to happen again what can I do can I get rid of my partners on the store myself again you can't afford to buy them out now can you no and I don't know that I wanted with that the store needs all three of us everybody makes a mistake once in a while but I just can't be personally responsible for another one that's one of the weaknesses of a partnership isn't it Sid well maybe you better incorporate the store incorporate yes issue stock to each partner in proportion to the amount of his investment in the store with more than half the stock you would have a controlling interest voting control of the corporation which owned the store you'll share your profits with the others in proportion to their stock ownership wait a minute issue stock controlling interest that sounds like a lot of paperwork red tape oh it does get a little complicated and you may as well know there are other disadvantages you'd be paying special taxes you'd be subject to new regulations but incorporating would give you the big advantage of what you want right now limited liability look here's how it works you start with a group of people who want to invest their money in a company then these people apply for a charter as a corporation the state government issues a charter to that Corporation now that Corporation operates legally as an individual person it is not a group of people it is under the law a legal entity or the same as one person engaged in business and that person is responsible for the debts and commitments of the Fairview clothing store Incorporated or care a moment here is the Fairview clothing store as it is now with the three of you as partners suppose you all agree to dissolve the partnership and incorate the stockholders will elect a board of directors in this case as large as stockholder you can select a board of directors yourself and your partners who will vote to make you president of the corporation that sounds very legal and complicated but if you say it's necessary and it will let me tell the corporation what to do I'm in favor of it and it will mean that none of the stockholders can be held liable for any more than his original investments sure that's what we mean by limited liability well then I think it's a good idea I do too as a matter of fact I was thinking I'd like to put some money into Fairview clothing store Incorporated looks like a good investment to me maybe you'd like to invest enough to pay for this equipment and decorating well the amount involved would still leave you with a controlling interest I'll do it let's see if we get your partners to agree to incorporate maybe I can hang on to my stock and Imperial Steel Incorporated yes Mr Brown will remain one of the many owners of Imperial Steel Company Incorporated because the stock of this company is offered on a stock exchange to the general public known as an open Corporation like many large open corporations Imperial steel is not controlled by any one person stock shares are bought and sold as large and small Investments of many people the management of the company is handled for the stockholders by the elected Board of yeah the today is uh all the films that for some reason are missing the beginning and the end um and uh all those guys in that film show up in other Coronet films um I believe it's Coronet it could be it's like Peter Britannic no I think it's Cornett because I actually we've run across some original color footage of it and we're hoping to but didn't have the sound so we're trying to marry them together and so at some point we'll have a beautiful color Kodachrome version of that and um the sound and it won't be all clipped up that is the goal all right so behind me I have a film scanner hooked up and I have a film uh in honor of women's History Month um this is not about uh American women this is about women of the world brought To Us by the fine brought to us brought To Us by the fine folks at Pepsi enjoy [Music] thank you Morocco is a country of contrast geographically it's a country of contrast our dress is is full of contrast our buildings the interior of our houses our life every minute in our life is it has a contrast to it it's a country that has everything in it [Music] [Music] [Laughter] laughs [Music] the spearhead of the modern movement is Muhammad V he gave the princess Elijah a very modern culture and education and for the women it started with the movement of the princess she helped them understand that this appearance is this development is necessary for the development of the country itself I think women all over the world are about the same because even here Morocco women just for for other women too and to see which one has the latest dress from Paris or the best custom from Fez or from Casablanca Moroccan girls and boys really don't date they go out as friends in groups isn't very common in Morocco the University of Fez is a very old University Korean is nine year 900 years old and I believe that it's the oldest university of the world most of the topics thought there are philosophy in Liberal Arts and Commerce I do my shopping myself and that's a new thing in the life of a Moroccan woman it's very recent it's after Independence that we have started doing our Market ourself and our shopping all shopping [Music] well there will be before men women didn't go out and they were kept more or less in the house and they didn't see men so the veil was to to isolate them even when they go out in the street so nobody could see their face they weren't recognized well we don't cover our faces anymore [Music] [Music] in the contest for ideal woman of Yugoslavia I won the title and then competed with women from all over Europe and became the champion of Europe we have a son Luba Mill 14 and a daughter 11. my husband is an engineer my greatest hobbies are painting and cooking I like the strong Vivid colors of fruits and vegetables [Music] my greatest pleasure is cooking teaching a book called yellana monstolo dishes on my table I tend to find something new which will impress my family and friends I like to serve a good dish [Music] thank you [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] I like to spend weekends with my family our family life is very happy though I'm working in the office and carrying the work in the house I try to find some free time I tried to follow development in culture a woman should not permit herself to be left behind time is precious and it must be planned very carefully [Music] in our family we understand and help each other I would like to help women all over the world [Music] what I think a woman must work staying at home and keeping her home and everything is cooked and it's not enough I think for a woman that has something in in her I think that she has to create something or work or do something and help other people to do things in Spain it's a new thing of many many women are working now well the big change is now from about two years to now every day is more and more of course [Music] I think that the materials is very very long ago now I don't even think we remember it in Spain anymore [Music] yes I use Suede and leather because it's a Spanish fabric Spanish material especially for that but also because nobody was doing anything High fashion in Suede and leather I was born in Paris but I'm in Spain since the age of six and I must say I'm Spanish now and mitsu is a nickname from Michelin I don't think it even has anything to do but it's my mother who gave it to me when I was born [Music] when women in Spain now dress completely different than before and it apparently changed a lot I think you can see all sorts of dresses and things in Spain now in the street I think that nowadays people would wear what the look that it's most becoming to them when there's a lady that might buy one personal suit that she likes and she wanted children another one will buy the same one longer just because she thinks it suits her better I think that now the fashion is whatever the short or long whatever it may be of the on the customer but the Maxi anyways out I don't like maxi [Music] but if you're a teenager now in Spain like you go to university what you would see is like all over the world I mean they were with little garden skirts and short skirts dresses anything [Music] well first of all I designed for what I want to create but also we have our 90 of customers are American but this doesn't uh doesn't influence me I think I just do whatever I feel like [Music] when you visit the country you may not realize until you visit the rural areas it's where you can really see the women at work because every morning you see in every home every village women leaving their homes with tools to go until the land nation building in Kenya here we understand it in this way that people must participate in nation building by working very hard after you had achieved our independence we realized that we had a lot of work to work hard in the rural area in the towns and build our nation by improving what was not improved before we have now gone very far having so many nursery centers in this country I understand very well the registered ones are 3 000 scattered all over the country a lot of the women now have come to understand that they should plan their family and also some of them have accepted to have only a few children in a family other than having so many children whom they may not be able to take care of with my vocational training um my my great interest as I mentioned before was to come back and try to help women men young boys young girls who are interested and also talented in this craft work and I think by the time we will start this it is the time that the tourists will be very pleased when they visit our country to see the authentic craft work made by Kenyan from Kenya before we achieved Independence during colonial rule the opportunity for education women were left lagging behind but this time since we achieved Independence the government has ruled that opportunities in education is open for all people women and men ask myself I I must say that I was very lucky indeed to have been given all these opportunities I was one of the first lady to join the first delegation from Kenya to United Nations [Music] with a traditional dancers in this country I must say that is the saddest thing that we are forgetting about it and the reason behind it why it started dying it is because people would come in a missionary who would introduce the Bible the word of God and they were against dances they were against even wearing jewelry like myself the Kenya government and everybody in our society in the rural areas trying to fight very hard to bring this back when we get married we always ask the man to pay Dowry and when you pay Dowry this means that you respect your wife the one you're going to marry as I hear in my family I have four daughters I happen to have very good four daughters and you'll see them coming in I I suppose that everybody can see that Mrs Harbor and Mr Hub are going to be very rich when all these guys are married I will have so many heads of cattle a lot of money maybe cars will be paid maybe limousine from America who knows foreign [Music] the winters in Sweden are so long and severe so naturally when the summer and sun does come back we worship it the Swedish woman Works quite a lot I think they're more Swedish women working in than in any other country and the problem is where to put the children during the day so you find in every state a lot of so-called nurseries or day homes for children where you leave your child in the morning and pick it up after you finish your work in the afternoon the child stays there the whole day and eats and sleeps parents do give their children quite a good sexual pieces of information in the sexual life and from the first year when the child starts school that is at the age of seven the teacher that's compulsory School for the teacher to give the children sexual lessons and these lessons or lectures continue All Through The Years you spend at school [Music] we get a lot of social aid from the government to get all AIDS pension we get three fourth back from from the fee we pay for a doctor's visit large families or families who can't pay the rent themselves get social Aid the Swedish sugars and the Swedish women are born to a certain kind of natural beauty because of of their colors and I don't know the long legs and all that and also I think the Swedish girls know how to to use makeup and how to dress [Music] the Swedish housewife is not so spoiled as yet we don't it's not a rule to have deep freezer in each home so we buy most of our vegetables fresh a couple of times a week from from the hay market and naturally all the fruit a Swedish woman of today I think she is she's functional she's practical she enjoys both being a career woman as well as a housewife and I think she can manage both those things [Music] thank you um you've got a lot to live and Pepsi's got a lot to give um yeah it's a fascinating fascinating film and I have another film that was sponsored by Pepsi it's about racial tensions in New Haven Connecticut in the late 60s early 70s it's another really fascinating film all right I got another film set up for you it's called working worlds enjoy we the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect union establish justice ensure domestic tranquility provide for the common defense [Music] promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America [Music] [Applause] [Music] almost 13 million people are employed by government agencies in some form of Public Service about 10 million of these work for one of the thousands of state and local government units throughout the country [Music] the remainder are in federal service [Music] almost every type of private employment can be found in public service as well as a number of others that are unique to government let's take a look at some of the major employment opportunities in public service one of them may be the kind of job you're looking for [Music] a government's first responsibility is law making the United States lawmakers are almost always elected to their jobs and while in theory any citizen can run for office in reality the people who attain elective positions are usually experienced and known in the political legal or the business world he is 97 368 shev four-door light green in color a government's next responsibility is to enforce the laws this is uh mail theft 10 4 15 30. [Music] 29 10 4 15 30. here at all levels of government are a range of career opportunities open to high school Technical School and college graduates in addition to City police departments and County Sheriffs crime detection and prevention involve agencies with names like Texas Rangers the FBI the Secret Service and the Coast Guard all have the same goal and all need qualified high school and college graduates ready to be trained on the job police work in conjunction with the courts to provide an effective law enforcement system our Judicial System requires the services of highly trained attorneys and judges but they also need people with business and clerical skills to handle the vast amount of paperwork with which they must deal if a person is found guilty of violating a law his sentence will become the responsibility of correctional officers either at a prison or a jail or a probation officer if he's placed on probation foreign flow and operation of a society is the government's main concern this leads it to an involvement in Far More Than Just crime prevention transportation is a social necessity that involves much of the government's time and resources here there are Public Service careers for people who plan survey maintain operate Transportation facilities most of these people have technical skills often learned on the job [Music] rapid transit buses and Highway including bridge tunnel and Street Maintenance are almost always the responsibility of one or more governmental agency [Music] the orderly flow in operation of a society is often tied to the orderly flow and operation of a nation's Commerce many government agencies exist to regulate business operations and each employs experts in the business being regulated [Music] thank you [Music] these people inspect food manufacturing drugs and new products issue licenses or monitor commercial broadcasting depending upon the agency they work for and they work for agencies with names like Federal Aviation agency Interstate Commerce Commission Federal Trade Commission Federal Communications Commission Federal Reserve Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission [Music] the flow of Commerce depends on more than regulation it depends on the mail the largest Federal employer is the Postal Service which is continually expanding to meet increased demands for efficient and Speedy Postal Service thank you post office careers are available in nearly every Community throughout the country and almost all involve on the job training thank you [Music] I'd like to report a fire down the street at 9th and Figueroa [Music] the health of the society depends upon the health of its people maintaining the health and well-being of a nation's citizens is still another function of the government more than 250 000 people are employed as firefighters and almost all by local governments career in fire prevention does not require Advanced Education and Training is offered on the job firemen have good job security but unusual schedules and dangerous work [Music] keeping cities clean is another aspect of social health and is one of the many growing areas in environmentally oriented careers parks and recreational centers offer careers in Planning Development and operation opportunities in this job specialty will probably increase as Leisure Time grows for more people concern for the quality of living and the environment will also spur the development of more Parks and Recreation areas with corresponding job possibilities good job opportunities are also available in many other social services provided by state and local governments these include social services such as welfare Assistance programs Aid to dependent children and the elderly employment counseling and retraining programs alcoholism and drug abuse treatment centers disability Rehabilitation programs and mental health clinics [Music] free government agency at every governmental level employs people with clerical and business skills to support the operation of that agency governments keep vast records handle large budgets take the senses [Music] calculate statistics and of course collect the taxes and the fees which Finance all government operations and so they need bookkeepers secretaries computer programmers Auditors and statisticians stenographers file clerks key punch operators and mail sorters and by and large most of these careers are filled by people with business or technical school backgrounds [Music] one government activity conducted solely by the federal government is that of our nation's dealings with foreign countries career opportunities in international affairs often with assignments overseas are possible in the state Department's foreign Services which represents the government in foreign countries the United States information agency which distributes information about America abroad and the agency for International Development which provides technical assistance and financial aid to developing nations thank you the armed services now organized on all volunteer basis offer almost every possible occupational specialty military careers offer good job security World Travel excellent training and educational opportunities and many fringe benefits for the careers and his family disadvantages include frequent transfers the restrictions of military discipline and personal danger in Wartime [Music] [Music] yo honey keep going baby the world of modern technology is expanding governmental Horizons as our nation moves into Universal Affairs there will be an expanding need for technically trained people working in many areas some of which don't even exist today perhaps then this is where you will choose to work in the world of our public servants the lawmakers arbitrators processors protectors and regulators you don't need a college degree to enter many government Service careers you will however have to pass some form of written Civil Service examination government services especially at the state and local level are expanding and employment opportunities are good most offer security advancement based on the Merit system and competitive pay scales fringe benefits and retirement options are also good [Music] if you're interested in a public service job start now to find out more about the employment prospects and educational requirements for the position that you want ask your instructor or counselor how you can learn more about a public service career visit the personnel office of your state city or County Government ask about how to prepare for taking the civil service test whether you're looking for a chance to see the world or a chance to help others there's no limit to the possibilities available to you in public that did the world of work song they're the ones that do the is a career in whatever for you and also the fun were dumb uh folks um all those are great songs and so when I found this film I was like oh man it's another counselor film and I don't know what this is so I was hoping there was going to be like a song in here because I we're uh beginning to collect songs for the next toe tapping tournament um that we'll do internally and uh you know I'm I want to compete against found footage Festival because I know that we will trounce them yet again but uh they still haven't paid off for the last time so um I'm kind of hesitant uh but anyways we should do it nonetheless because we've run across some really great songs since last April or so uh and um yes that's what I was hoping so that film was really boring because it didn't have that song and it wasn't like this fast-paced thing it was really kind of mediocre so I apologize for that um but I can't apologize for every mediocre
